Using renewable materials as primary components for constructing superhydrophobic coatings is an effective strategy for enhancing the environmental sustainability of anti-icing technologies. Alkali lignin, a by-product of the pulp and paper industry, was graft-modified with 1H, 1H, 2H, 2H-perfluorooctyltrichlorosilane to create a robust and multifunctional superhydrophobic coating for effective anti-icing. The results demonstrated that the industrial lignin-based coating achieved a contact angle of 162.

The aim of the study was to compare the impact of a virtual simulation game to a poverty live interactive simulation with regard to perceptions of poverty. An interprofessional sample of pharmacy and nursing students completed pre/post surveys with 13 questions (total possible score: 39); the 395 responses were analyzed using a two-way analysis of variance and descriptive statistics. The virtual group had a score improvement of 3.

Genomics-informed breeding of locally adapted, nutritious, albeit underutilised African crops can help mitigate food and nutrition insecurity challenges in Africa, particularly against the backdrop of climate change. However, utilisation of modern genome-assisted crop improvement tools including genomic selection and genome editing for many African indigenous crops is hampered by the scarcity of genomic resources. Here we report on the assembly of the genome of African yam bean (Sphenostylis stenocarpa), a tuberous legume crop that is indigenous to Africa.

The electronic structures of lanthanide monoxides (LnO/LnO) and monosulfides (LnS/LnS) for all lanthanide series elements (Ln = La-Lu) have been systematically analyzed with sophisticated quantum chemical calculations. The ground electronic configuration has been determined to be Ln 4f6s or 4f for the neutral molecules and Ln 4f for the cations. The low-lying energy states resulting from spin-orbit coupling and ligand field effects have been resolved using spin-orbit multiconfiguration quasi-degenerate second-order perturbation theory calculations.

Iterative refinement of the classification index for research is needed to incorporate newly available data as the field rapidly evolves.
Objective: To update the 2023 research index for adults with LC using additional participant data from the Researching COVID to Enhance Recovery (RECOVER-Adult) study and an expanded symptom list based on input from patient communities.

Objective: Dysregulated eating is common among youth and is associated with trait-level negative affect and emotion regulation difficulties. Despite the transient nature of affect, momentary associations among affect and eating behavior are unclear, which limits development of more impactful treatment tools, such as "just-in-time" intervention approaches (JITAI). The current study (N = 62) drew from two ecological momentary assessment (EMA) studies involving children and adolescents who endorsed loss of control (LOC) eating symptoms during a two-week assessment period.

This study examined the effects of arm weights on dynamic stability during overground walking in individuals with hemiparetic stroke. Arm weights have been shown to improve mobility in stroke survivors, potentially at the cost of decreased dynamic stability and increased fall risk. Data from nine stroke survivors (8 males, 1 female; age: 58.

Drying is one of the most effective preservation methods for extending the shelf-life of perishable foods. The microbial safety of low-moisture food products had not been recognized as a concern until outbreaks reported over the past decade in products contaminated with bacterial pathogens, in particular . There is now an urgent need to understand the influence of process conditions on the thermal inactivation of pathogens in various drying operations.

Background: Off-label use of semaglutide for non-diabetic weight loss (which regulators have linked to social media promotion) created worldwide supply shortages. We evaluated worldwide semaglutide interest measured by online search behavior to gauge social media and conventional print media reporting's effect on search interest.
Methods: Using Google Trends Extended for Health (GTEH) multiple sampling, we retrieved regional online interest (ROI) for all countries and extracted timelines and top search queries for January 2021-August 2023 for countries with median ROI ≥ 20 using the "semaglutide" topic.

Background: The American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy Curriculum Outcomes and Entrustable Professional Activities (COEPA) recognize the need for social determinants of health (SDH) education for pharmacy learners. However, there is a dearth of published strategies for incorporating comprehensive SDH education in Doctor of Pharmacy curricula. The objectives of this study were to: 1) highlight unpublished exemplars of SDH teaching models and 2) propose strategies for teaching SDH.

Porcine circoviruses (PCVs), including porcine circovirus 2 (PCV2) and porcine circovirus 3 (PCV3), have been associated with clinical syndromes in swine, resulting in significant economic losses. To better understand the epidemiology and clinical relevance of PCV2 and PCV3, this study analyzed a dataset comprising diagnostic data from six veterinary diagnostic laboratories (VDLs) in the United States of America. The data comprised of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test results, sample type, and age group for PCV2 and PCV3 submissions from 2002-2023.

-GalNAc glycans on glycoproteins with eight different core structures sharing a common α-glycosidic linkage (-GalNAc-α-Ser/Thr) are critical in various physiological and pathological processes. Among the eight -GalNAc glycan cores, core 2 characterized by a GlcNAcβ1-6(Galβ1-3)GalNAc structural motif plays a significant role in regulating diverse biological processes, such as immune response modulation, adhesive properties of selectins, and gastrointestinal tract protection. However, the large-quantity synthesis of core 2 containing glyco-amino acids for downstream solid-phase peptide synthesis is challenging.

Laccases are multi-copper oxidases that play an important role in the biodegradation of phenolic compounds, lignin, dye, and wastes. Here, we report the screening of potential laccase-producing indigenous bacterial isolates and subsequent optimization of laccase production using crop residues as cheap supplementary energy sources. Among 16 bacterial isolates, seven were selected based on the appearance of reddish-brown bacterial colonies and guaiacol oxidation assay after 10 days of incubation at 37 °C.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of a rumen-derived direct-fed microbial (DFM) product on performance, blood biomarkers, ruminal fermentation, and bacterial abundance in dairy cows during the transition period until 100 DIM. Fifty-six Holstein cows were enrolled in a randomized complete block design from -21 to 100 DIM. Cows were blocked based on expected calving date, parity, and previous lactation milk yield for multiparous or genetic merit for primiparous cows.
