We present a first search for dark-trident scattering in a neutrino beam using a dataset corresponding to 7.2×10^{20} protons on target taken with the MicroBooNE detector at Fermilab. Proton interactions in the neutrino target at the main injector produce π^{0} and η mesons, which could decay into dark-matter (DM) particles mediated via a dark photon A^{'}.

Supercapacitors (SCs) have received widespread attention as excellent energy storage devices, and the design of multicomponent electrode materials and the construction of ingenious structures are the keys to enhancing the performance of SCs. In this paper, MoS nanorods were used as the carrier structure to induce the anchoring of CoAl-LDH nanosheets and grow on the surface of nickel foam (NF) in situ, thus obtaining a uniformly distributed MoS nanorod@CoAl-LDH nanosheet core-shell nanoarray material (MoS@CoAl-LDH/NF). On the one hand, the nanorod-structured MoS as the core provides high conductivity and support, accelerates electron transfer, and avoids agglomeration of CoAl-LDH nanosheets.

We explore the potential of nanocrystals (a term used equivalently to nanoparticles) as building blocks for nanomaterials, and the current advances and open challenges for fundamental science developments and applications. Nanocrystal assemblies are inherently multiscale, and the generation of revolutionary material properties requires a precise understanding of the relationship between structure and function, the former being determined by classical effects and the latter often by quantum effects. With an emphasis on theory and computation, we discuss challenges that hamper current assembly strategies and to what extent nanocrystal assemblies represent thermodynamic equilibrium or kinetically trapped metastable states.

2D materials, given their form-factor, high surface-to-volume ratio, and chemical functionality have immense use in sensor design. Engineering 2D heterostructures can result in robust combinations of desirable properties but sensor design methodologies require careful considerations about material properties and orientation to maximize sensor response. This study introduces a sensor approach that combines the excellent electrical transport and transduction properties of graphite film with chemical reactivity derived from the edge sites of semiconducting molybdenum disulfide (MoS) through a two-step chemical vapour deposition method.

Background: Hot spring biofilms provide a window into the survival strategies of microbial communities in extreme environments and offer potential for biotechnological applications. This study focused on green and brown biofilms thriving on submerged plant litter within the Sungai Klah hot spring in Malaysia, characterised by temperatures of 58-74 °C. Using Illumina shotgun metagenomics and Nanopore ligation sequencing, we investigated the microbial diversity and functional potential of metagenome-assembled genomes (MAGs) with specific focus on biofilm formation, heat stress response, and carbohydrate catabolism.

Unlabelled: A comprehensive pangenomic approach was employed to analyze the genomes of 75 type II methylotrophs spanning various genera. Our investigation revealed 256 exact core gene families shared by all 75 organisms, emphasizing their crucial role in the survival and adaptability of these organisms. Additionally, we predicted the functionality of 12 hypothetical proteins.

We present a measurement of η production from neutrino interactions on argon with the MicroBooNE detector. The modeling of resonant neutrino interactions on argon is a critical aspect of the neutrino oscillation physics program being carried out by the DUNE and Short Baseline Neutrino programs. η production in neutrino interactions provides a powerful new probe of resonant interactions, complementary to pion channels, and is particularly suited to the study of higher-order resonances beyond the Δ(1232).

To gain insights into the composition and heterogeneity of Earth's interior, the partial pressure of oxygen (oxygen fugacity, or fO) in igneous rocks is characterized. A surprising observation is that relative to reference buffers, fOs of mantle melts (mid-ocean ridge basalts, or MORBs) and their presumed mantle sources (abyssal peridotites) differ. Globally, MORBs have near-uniform fOs, whereas abyssal peridotites vary by about three orders of magnitude, suggesting these intimately related geologic reservoirs are out of equilibrium.

In people living with diabetes, impaired wound healing is a major concern as the formation of ulcerated wounds can drastically reduce both the effectiveness of the healing process and the quality of life of the patient. The healing of dermal wounds in particular involves a patient's fibroblasts building up a strong extracellular matrix of mostly collagen I and collagen III fibers, which the cells of diabetic patients struggle to do. Extracellular matrix stiffness, and growth substrate stiffness in general, have already been shown to have a significant effect on the growth and development of already existent cells, and in diabetic dermal fibroblasts, morphological and physiological characteristics associated with the healing process appear to be altered from their healthy state.

Hyperpolarization techniques provide a dramatic increase in sensitivity of nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and imaging. In spite of the outstanding progress in solution-state hyperpolarization of spin-1/2 nuclei, hyperpolarization of quadrupolar nuclei remains challenging. Here, hyperpolarization of quadrupolar N nuclei with natural isotopic abundance of >99 % is demonstrated.

Drinking water disinfection can result in the formation disinfection byproducts (DBPs, > 700 have been identified to date), many of them are reportedly cytotoxic, genotoxic, or developmentally toxic. Analyzing the toxicity levels of these contaminants experimentally is challenging, however, a predictive model could rapidly and effectively assess their toxicity. In this study, machine learning models were developed to predict DBP cytotoxicity based on their chemical information and exposure experiments.

Endothelial-mesenchymal transition (EndoMT) of vascular endothelial cells has recently been considered as a key player in the early progression of a variety of vascular and nonvascular diseases, including atherosclerosis, cancer, and organ fibrosis. However, current strategies attempting to identify pharmacological inhibitors to block the regulatory pathways of EndoMT suffer from poor selectivity, unwanted side effects, and a heterogeneous response from endothelial cells with different origins. Furthermore, EndoMT inhibitors focus on preventing EndoMT, leaving the endothelial cells that have already undergone EndoMT unresolved.

This article is a review that was inspired by recent studies investigating the effects of childhood trauma or early life stress (ELS) and mindfulness in adulthood. One recent study found that some forms of abuse and neglect led to higher scores in several subscales of a self-report measure of mindfulness. The authors concluded that some forms of ELS can help cultivate certain aspects of mindfulness in adulthood.

Bacterial intracellular nucleotide second messenger signaling is involved in biofilm formation and regulates biofilm development. Interference with the bacterial nucleotide second messenger signaling provides a novel approach to control biofilm formation and limit microbial infection in medical devices. In this study, we tethered small-molecule derivatives of 4-arylazo-3,5-diamino-1-pyrazole on polyurethane biomaterial surfaces and measured the biofilm resistance and initial biocompatibility of modified biomaterials in and settings.

We report herein that the anti-CD20 therapeutic antibody, rituximab, is rearranged into microclusters within the phagocytic synapse by macrophage Fcγ receptors (FcγR) during antibody-dependent cellular phagocytosis. These microclusters were observed to potently recruit Syk and to undergo rearrangements that were limited by the cytoskeleton of the target cell, with depolymerization of target-cell actin filaments leading to modest increases in phagocytic efficiency. Total internal reflection fluorescence analysis revealed that FcγR total phosphorylation, Syk phosphorylation, and Syk recruitment were enhanced when IgG-FcγR microclustering was enabled on fluid bilayers relative to immobile bilayers in a process that required Arp2/3.

The phase changes of soil water or porous media have a crucial influence on the performance of natural and man-made infrastructures in cold regions. While various methods have been explored to address the impacts of frost-action arising from these phase changes, conventional approaches often rely on chemicals, mechanical techniques, and the reuse of waste materials, which often exhibit certain limitations and environmental concerns. In contrast, certain organisms produce ice-binding proteins (IBPs) or antifreeze proteins (AFPs) to adapt to low temperatures, which can inhibit ice crystal growth by lowering the freezing point and preventing ice crystallization without the need for external intervention.
