In this study, a collaborative system of Fe and mixed anaerobic microorganisms was established for remediating chromium (Cr)-contaminated soil and restraining the translocation of Cr from soil to swamp cabbage (Ipomoea aquatica Forssk.). Solid phase characterization demonstrated that more reactive secondary minerals such as green rust, magnetite, and lepidocrocite were generated in the composite system as compared with the Fe -only system.

Continuous-flow iron and bio-iron columns were used to evaluate the effects of seepage velocity and concentration on Cr(VI) removal from groundwater. Solid-phase analysis showed that microorganisms accelerated iron corrosion by excreting extracellular polymeric substances and generated highly reactive minerals containing Fe(II), which gave the bio-iron column a longer life span and enhanced capacity for Cr(VI) removal via enhanced adsorption and reduction by reactive minerals. The bio-iron column showed much higher Cr(VI) removal capacity than the iron column with increasing Cr(VI) loading, which was obtained by increasing the seepage velocity or influent Cr(VI) concentration from 95 to 1138 m yr and from 5 to 40 mg L , respectively.

The eight biogenic amines (BA), which are histamine (HIS), tryptamine, putrescine, 2-phenylethylamine, cadaverine, tyramine, spermidine, and spermine, were determined in Chub Mackerel under different storage conditions after being freshly caught. The storage time and temperature were varied and the guts either present or removed. Oenothein B (OeB) is a dimeric macrocyclic ellagitannin isolated from Herbs and fruits that have a variety of biological activities. In order to better understand the effect of OeB on the activity of the digestive enzyme pepsin, interactions between OeB and pepsin were investigated in vitro under simulated physiological conditions based on enzyme inhibition studies, fluorescence, isothermal titration calorimetry, CD, and molecular docking. It was found OeB is an effective inhibitor of pepsin, likely acting in a reversible manner through both competitive and noncompetitive inhibition.

In present study, 1-monocaffeoyl glycerol (1-MCG), an amphipathic caffeic acid natural derivative, was enzymatically synthesized by Lipozyme 435, and its antioxidant profile in both lipophilic and lipophobic media was evaluated. It is important to inhibit the food-derived, potentially hazardous chemical glycated lipids by natural products. A model system was established and the products are identified to study the inhibitory mechanism of four types of catechin, resveratrol (RES), and the synthetic antioxidants butylated hydroxylanisole (BHA) and tert-butylhydroquinone (TBHQ) on the formation of carboxymethyl 1,2-dipalmitoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphatidylethanolamine (CM-DPPE) by determining hydroxyl radical (OH·), Amadori-1,2-dipalmitoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphatidylethanolamine (Amadori-DPPE) and glyoxal (GO). The results show that the inhibitory rates of catechin and RES on the content of CM-DPPE in the model system are higher than those of BHA and TBHQ.

The purpose of this study was to produce and characterize an inclusion complex between β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) and Exocarpium Citri Grandis essential oil (EEO), and to evaluate its antioxidant properties. The volatile compounds of EEO were characterized by gas chromatography-mass spectrometer. A comparison of the β-CD, EEO, and the physical mixture with the inclusion complex revealed differences in their thermal stabilities and morphologies, which confirmed the formation of the β-CD-EEO inclusion complex.
