The majority of vascular flowering plants can establish arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) symbiosis with AM fungi. These associations contribute to plant health and plant growth against various environmental stresses. In the mutualistic endosymbiosis, the AM fungi deliver phosphate (P) to the host root through highly branched hyphae called arbuscules.

Quorum sensing (QS) is a widely conserved bacterial regulatory mechanism that relies on production and perception of autoinducing chemical signals to coordinate diverse cooperative activities, such as virulence, exoenzyme secretion, and biofilm formation. In Ralstonia solanacearum, a phytopathogen causing severe bacterial wilt diseases in many plant species, previous studies identified the PhcBSR QS system, which plays a key role in regulation of its physiology and virulence. In this study, we found that R.

Burkholderia cenocepacia is a human opportunistic pathogen that mostly employs two types of quorum-sensing (QS) systems to regulate its various biological functions and pathogenicity: the -2-dodecenoic acid (BDSF) system and the -acyl homoserine lactone (AHL) system. In this study, we reported that oridonin, which was screened from a collection of natural products, disrupted important B. cenocepacia phenotypes, including motility, biofilm formation, protease production, and virulence.

Plants can improve their resistance to a variety of stresses by forming mutualistic relationships with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF). The 14-3-3 protein is a major regulator of the plant stress response. However, the regulation mechanism of 14-3-3 family protein genes (14-3-3s) of mycorrhizal plants coping with stress during AMF symbiosis remains unclear.

Cephalosporins are important beta lactam antibiotics, but resistance can be mediated by various mechanisms including production of beta lactamase enzymes, changes in membrane permeability or active efflux. We used an evolution model to study how Salmonella adapts to subinhibitory concentrations of cefotaxime in planktonic and biofilm conditions and characterized the mechanisms underpinning this adaptation. We found that Salmonella rapidly adapts to subinhibitory concentrations of cefotaxime via selection of multiple mutations within the CA-domain region of EnvZ.

Waterlogging causes a significant reduction in soil oxygen levels, which in turn negatively affects soil nutrient use efficiency and crop yields. Rhizosphere microbes can help plants to better use nutrients and thus better adapt to this stress, while it is not clear how the plant-associated microbes respond to waterlogging stress. There are also few reports on whether this response is influenced by different sequencing methods and by different soils.
