Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Huashi Baidu Granule (HSBDG), a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), is used for treating coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) is considered the "COVID-19" for swine. According to the TCM theory, "dampness" is the main pathogenic factor in COVID-19 and PRRS, and "Huashi" means that this formula is good at removing "dampness".

Background: Allergic rhinitis (AR) is a common disorder, that burdens general well-being. Although the lung is connected to the upper respiratory tract, which is rich in microorganisms, no studies have reported the relationship between lung microbiota and AR. Mahuang Fuzi Xixin decoction (MFXD) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula that is widely used to treat AR in the clinic but its underlying mechanism remains unclear.

Acute bacterial diarrhea is a severe global problem with a particularly high incidence rate in children. The microecology inhabiting the intestinal mucosa is the key factor leading to diarrhea. Gegen Qinlian decoction (GQD) is used to treat bacterial diarrhea, however, its underlying mechanism remains unclear.

Tibial Dyschondroplasia (TD) is a prevailing skeletal disorder that mainly affects rapidly growing avian species. It results in reduced bone strength, lameness and an increase risk of fragility fractures. Total flavonoids of Rhizoma drynariae (TFRD) have been used as an effective treatment of different bone diseases in humans.

Infection of host cells with the influenza virus is mediated by specific interactions between the viral haemagglutinin (HA) and cell oligosaccharides containing sialic acid (SA) residues. Avian and human influenza viruses bind to alpha-2, 3 and alpha-2, 6 sialic acid-linked receptors, respectively. To date, there have been no detailed tissue distribution data on alpha-2, 3 and alpha-2, 6 sialic acid-linked receptors in the domestic cat, a relatively new mammalian host for influenza virus infections.

To understand the genetic diversity of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) in South China, we collected 231 clinical samples from pigs with suspected PRRSV infection in Guangdong between 2007 and 2009. We found that 74 of 231 samples were positive by RT-PCR. The PCR products of the ORF5 gene of 35 isolates from different farms were sequenced and their DNA sequences were compared to 23 other PRRSV isolates in the GenBank.

Subgroup J avian leukosis virus (ALV-J), first isolated in 1989, mainly induces tumours of myeloid leukosis (ML) in meat-type chickens. In 2006, ALV-J strain SCAU-HN06 was isolated from commercial layer hens with spontaneous haemangiomas in China. To confirm its role in the induction of haemangioma, we constructed a full-length copy of the proviral genome from SCAU-HN06, recovered virus from DF-1 cells detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, characterized its growth property and investigated its pathogenicity.
