Overcoming optical losses in thin metal-based recombination layers for efficient n-i-p perovskite-organic tandem solar cells.

Nat Commun

January 2025

Institute of Materials for Electronics and Energy Technology (i-MEET), Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, Erlangen, Germany.

Perovskite-organic tandem solar cells (P-O-TSCs) hold substantial potential to surpass the theoretical efficiency limits of single-junction solar cells. However, their performance is hampered by non-ideal interconnection layers (ICLs). Especially in n-i-p configurations, the incorporation of metal nanoparticles negatively introduces serious parasitic absorption, which alleviates photon utilization in organic rear cell and decisively constrains the maximum photocurrent matching with front cell.

Cancer Biology and Therapy Laboratory, School of Applied and Health Sciences, London South Bank University, London SE1 0AA, UK.

The vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 (VEGFR2) and the hepatocyte growth factor receptor (C-Met) are critical receptors for signaling pathways controlling crucial cellular processes such as cell growth, angiogenesis and tissue regeneration. However, dysregulation of these proteins has been reported in different diseases, particularly cancer, where these proteins promote tumour growth, invasiveness, metastasis and resistance to conventional therapies. The identification of dual inhibitors targeting both VEGFR-2 and c-Met has emerged as a strategic therapeutic approach to overcome the limitations and resistance mechanisms associated with single-target therapies in clinical settings.

Background: Low back pain is a common musculoskeletal condition which causes substantial disability globally. The biopsychosocial model of management has been recommended in national and international guidelines for the management of patients with chronic low back pain (CLBP). However, biopsychosocial approaches are predominantly delivered in high income countries (HICs), although the prevalence of LBP is substantially higher in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) especially in Africa (39%; 95% CI 30-47).

Accurate and automatic assessments of body segment kinematics via wearable sensors are essential to provide new insights into the complex interactions between active lifestyle and fall risk in various populations. To remotely assess near-falls due to balance disturbances in daily life, current approaches primarily rely on biased questionnaires, while contemporary data-driven research focuses on preliminary fall-related scenarios. Here, we worked on an automated framework based on accurate trunk kinematics, enabling the detection of near-fall scenarios during locomotion.

Medicines management in children and young people: pharmacological approaches to treat pain.

Nurs Child Young People

December 2024

London South Bank University, and honorary research fellow in paediatric endocrinology, Queen Mary University of London, London, England.

Pain management in children is often more complex than in adults, since pain in children can be more challenging to assess and therefore more challenging to treat. It is essential that children's nurses have knowledge and understanding of the physiology of pain and the analgesics available to treat different types of pain. This article describes nociception and provides an overview of the three main groups of analgesics - non-opioids, opioids and adjuvants - that can be used in the pharmacological management of pain in children and young people.

A Discrete Trialane with a Near-Linear Al Axis.

J Am Chem Soc

December 2024

Institute for Inorganic Chemistry, Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg, Am Hubland, 97074 Würzburg. Germany.

The presence of inherent electronic unsaturation in aluminum predominantly results in the formation of aluminum clusters, with very few examples of compounds containing discrete chains of aluminum atoms in existence. In this work, we present the successful synthesis and structural authentication of a highly unusual trialane species with a near-linear chain of three Al atoms, alongside a carbene-stabilized aluminyl anion ([LAlR]), an alternative product produced by varying the reaction conditions. Quantum-chemical calculations have been applied to elucidate the electronic structure and bonding of these novel compounds.
