CoTCNQ as a Catalyst for CO Electroreduction: A First Principles rSCAN Meta-GGA Investigation.

Using first principles calculations we investigate cobalt-coordinated tetracyanoquinodimethane (R-CoTCNQ) as a potential catalyst for the CO electroreduction reaction (COERR). We determine that exchange-correlation functionals beyond the generalized gradient approximation (GGA) are required to accurately describe the spin properties of R-CoTCNQ, therefore, the meta-GGA rSCAN functional is used in this study. The free energy COERR reaction pathways are calculated for the reduced catalyst ([R-CoTCNQ]) with reaction products HCOOH and HCHO predicted depending on our choice of electrode potential.

The validity of teledentistry examinations during the COVID-19 pandemic in Sydney, Australia.

Background: During the COVID-19 pandemic, non-urgent dental treatments were deferred. To identify and prioritize urgent dental patients, teledentistry was implemented across NSW public dental services. This study aimed to establish the validity of teledentistry examinations to provide a clinical diagnosis compared to face-to-face, clinical examination.

Background: The relationship between adolescent alcohol use and emotional problems remains unclear and contradictory. These inconsistencies may in part be due to differences in the measurement and operationalization of alcohol use and emotional problems across studies, as well as confounder selection and missing data decisions. This study explores the associations between common specifications of adolescent alcohol use and emotional problems in a large sample of adolescents.

Carer Outcomes From a Residential Treatment Service for Eating Disorders.

Objective: Eating disorders often result in distress, relationship impairment, and emotional, social, and financial burden for family members and other loved ones. However, carer outcomes from eating disorder treatment are under-researched, particularly residential settings. This study aimed to examine carer outcomes from a transdiagnostic residential service for eating disorders, which included therapist-led psychoeducation and peer support for carers.

Neuronal growth regulator 1 (NEGR1) promotes the synaptic targeting of glutamic acid decarboxylase 65 (GAD65).

Neuronal growth regulator 1 (NEGR1) is a synaptic plasma membrane localized cell adhesion molecule implicated in a wide spectrum of psychiatric disorders. By RNAseq analysis of the transcriptomic changes in the brain of NEGR1-deficient mice, we found that NEGR1 deficiency affects the expression of the Gad2 gene. We show that glutamic acid decarboxylase 65 (GAD65), the Gad2 - encoded enzyme synthesizing the inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA on synaptic vesicles, accumulates non-synaptically in brains of NEGR1-deficient mice.

The Effects of Low-Dose Morphine on Sleep and Breathlessness in COPD: A Randomized Trial.

Background: Low-dose morphine may be prescribed to reduce chronic breathlessness in COPD. Subjective findings suggest morphine may influence breathlessness through sleep-related mechanisms. However, concerns exist regarding opioid safety in COPD.

Older rural women's pre-visit planning and involvement in South Australian general practices: A candidacy theory perspective.

Objective: To explain older rural women's participation in clinical decision-making with GPs and explore factors associated with their pre-visit planning and involvement in treatment processes.

Methods: A sequential, theory-driven mixed-method study was conducted. Women aged 65 years or above who had visited a GP three months prior were recruited from five rural towns in South Australia through the local Rotary Club.

SGLT2 inhibitors are now widely used to reduce the risk of hospital admission and kidney failure in people with type 2 diabetes and chronic kidney disease. This study aimed to estimate the impact of SGLT2 inhibitors on greenhouse gas emissions using data from the CREDENCE trial.

Ethnic Differences in Characteristics of Women Diagnosed with Early Gestational Diabetes: Findings from the TOBOGM Study.

Objective: To compare the prevalence and clinical characteristics of early gestational diabetes (eGDM) and associated birth outcomes amongst women of different ethnic groups.

Research Design And Methods: This is a secondary analysis of an international, multicentre randomized controlled trial of treating eGDM among pregnant women with GDM risk factors enrolled <20 weeks' gestation. The diagnosis of GDM was made using WHO-2013 criteria.

Introgression - the exchange of genetic material through hybridization - is now recognized as common among animal species. The extent of introgression, however, can vary considerably even when it occurs: for example, introgression can be geographically restricted or so pervasive that populations merge. Such variation highlights the importance of understanding the factors mediating introgression.

Pediatric non-traumatic dental presentations to the emergency department: a ten year retrospective study in an Australian tertiary hospital.

Background: Non-traumatic dental conditions (NTDC) that present to the emergency department of a tertiary hospital tend to be related to dental caries, including facial cellulitis, abscess and toothache. This study aimed to report the types of dental conditions and the characteristics of children that presented to an urban tertiary hospital emergency department for NTDC.

Methods: Medical records were reviewed for children less than 19 years of age who presented to the emergency department over a 10-year period with a NTDC.

A task as simple as holding a cup between your fingers generates complex motor commands to finely regulate the forces applied by muscles. These fine force adjustments ensure the stability and integrity of the object by preventing it from slipping out of grip during manipulation and by reacting to perturbations. To do so, our sensorimotor system constantly monitors tactile and proprioceptive information about the force object exerts on fingertips and the friction of the surfaces to determine the optimal grip force.

Corneal Transplantation in Australia Over 29 Years: A Retrospective Analysis of Medicare Data from 1994 to 2022.

Purpose: We aim to report the frequency and distribution of corneal transplantation, by age, sex, and state/territory, in Australia over a > 25-year period from 1994 to 2022, including during COVID-19 lockdowns.

Methods: Using data from Medicare, Australia's Government-funded health insurance scheme, we retrospectively analysed corneal transplants performed from January 1994 to December 2022.

Results: From 1994 to 2022, there were 27,536 corneal transplantation services processed by Medicare.

A multitiered analysis platform for genome sequencing: Design and initial findings of the Australian Genomics Cardiovascular Disorders Flagship.

Purpose: The Australian Genomics Cardiovascular Disorders Flagship was a national multidisciplinary collaboration.
