Background And Objective: An overactive bladder (OAB) is primarily managed with behavioural therapy and using anticholinergics and beta-3 agonists. Reports have shown that the use of anticholinergics by OAB patients was associated with an increased risk of new-onset dementia compared with those using beta-3 agonists. This study compares the risks of dementia among patients with an OAB starting on a beta-3 agonist alone, an anticholinergic alone, or a combination treatment.

Exploring the Characteristics of Circulating Tumor DNA in Pt1a Clear Cell Renal Cell Carcinoma: A Pilot Study.

Circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) is a promising biomarker for clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC); however, its characteristics in small renal masses of ccRCC remain unclear. In this pilot study, we explored the characteristics of ctDNA in pT1a ccRCC. Plasma samples were collected preoperatively from 53 patients with pT1a ccRCC.

Nephron-Sparing Approaches in Upper Tract Urothelial Carcinoma: Current and Future Strategies.

Upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) is a relatively rare cancer, and much of the approach to treatment has been derived from strategies employed in treating bladder cancer. Radical nephroureterectomy (RNU) is regarded as the gold standard treatment for UTUC. However, due to potential complications, such as renal function impairment, that can affect oncologic outcomes, the demand for nephron-sparing treatment to effectively treat cancer while preserving renal function has increased.

Xp11.2 translocation renal cell carcinoma (tRCC), involving transcription factor E3 () gene fusions, is a rare and aggressive RCC variant when present in adults and has been recently recognized as a unique entity in RCC. Biomarkers and treatment guidelines do not exist for patients with aggressive Xp11.

Systemic Injection of Oncolytic Vaccinia Virus Suppresses Primary Tumor Growth and Lung Metastasis in Metastatic Renal Cell Carcinoma by Remodeling Tumor Microenvironment.

Immune checkpoint inhibitors and tyrosine kinase inhibitors are the first-line treatment for metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC), but their benefits are limited to specific patient subsets. Here, we aimed to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of JX-594 (pexastimogene devacirepvec, Pexa-vec) monotherapy by systemic injection in comparison with sunitinib monotherapy in metastatic orthotopic RCC murine models. Two highly metastatic orthotopic RCC models were developed to compare the treatment efficacy in the International Metastatic RCC Database Consortium favorable-risk and intermediate- or poor-risk groups.

Development of prediction models of spontaneous ureteral stone passage through machine learning: Comparison with conventional statistical analysis.

Objectives: To develop a prediction model of spontaneous ureteral stone passage (SSP) using machine learning and logistic regression and compare the performance of the two models. Indications for management of ureteral stones are unclear, and the clinician determines whether to wait for SSP or perform active treatment, especially in well-controlled patients, to avoid unwanted complications. Therefore, suggesting the possibility of SSP would help make a clinical decision regarding ureteral stones.

Prognostic value of prostate volume in non-muscle invasive bladder cancer.

There is evidence that a history of benign prostatic hyperplasia increases the incidence of bladder cancer, and treatment with 5-alpha reductase inhibitor or androgen deprivation therapy reduces recurrence of non-muscle invasive bladder cancer. We aimed to evaluate whether prostate volume affects its prognosis. We reviewed medical records of men who underwent transurethral resection of bladder tumor due to non-muscle invasive bladder cancer from January 2012 to December 2017.

The DEAD/DEAH Box Helicase, DDX11, Is Essential for the Survival of Advanced Clear Cell Renal Cell Carcinoma and Is a Determinant of PARP Inhibitor Sensitivity.

Genes associated with the DEAD-box helicase are significant biomarkers of aggressive renal cell carcinoma (RCC), but their molecular function is poorly understood. We analyzed the molecular pathways through which DDX11 is involved in RCC cell survival and poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) inhibitor sensitivity. Immunohistochemistry and immunoblotting determined DDX11 expression in normal kidney tissues, benign renal tumors, and RCC tissues and cell lines.

Modern History of Hansen's Disease in Korea.

Modern history of Hansen's Disease (HD) in Korea begins with nationwide use of the chemotherapeutic agent Diamino Diphenyl Sulphone for the patients in 1955. Definition of the case was different from time to time. Based on World Health Organization (WHO) criteria, Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW) reported 4,393 registered patients and same number 4,393 as new cases in 1977.

The aim of this study is to examine the use of an inflammasome competitor as a preventative agent. Coronaviruses have zoonotic potential due to the adaptability of their S protein to bind receptors of other species, most notably demonstrated by SARS-CoV. The binding of SARS-CoV-2 to TLR (Toll-like receptor) causes the release of pro-IL-1β, which is cleaved by caspase-1, followed by the formation and activation of the inflammasome, which is a mediator of lung inflammation, fever, and fibrosis.

Causes of Death among Persons Affected by Leprosy in Korea, 2010-2013.

In addition to the complications of leprosy, people affected by leprosy (PALs) can suffer from chronic diseases. We evaluated the recent pattern of deaths among Korean PALs and compared it with that in the general population. We analyzed the death certificate data of 1,359 PALs from 2010 through 2013.

Comparison of the Clinical Characteristics and Outcomes between Leprosy-Affected Persons in Sorokdo and the General Population Affected by Chronic Hepatitis C in Korea.

Background/aims: Patients with Hansen's disease are the most vulnerable to hepatitis C. However, no data on the treatment efficacy of direct-acting antiviral agents (DAAs) are available in this group. Therefore, we elucidated the prevalence and clinical outcomes of hepatitis C in persons affected by leprosy in Sorokdo, Jeollanam-do, Korea.

Cognitive function and activities of daily living in people affected by leprosy: A cross-sectional, population-based, case-control study.

Objectives: There has been controversy regarding whether or not people affected by leprosy have more cognitive dysfunction than healthy individuals. The purpose of this study was to assess cognitive functions and activities of daily living (ADL) in people affected by leprosy relative to a control population living in rural areas.

Materials And Methods: We assessed cognitive functions and ADL using the Korean Mini-Mental State Examination (K-MMSE), Korean Dementia Screening Questionnaire (KDSQ), and Seoul-Instrumental ADL (S-IADL).

Scabies Among Elderly Korean Patients with Histories of Leprosy.

A scabies epidemic, traced by the hospital-based surveillance system, was reported in a Korean leprosarium. A total of 200 symptomatic cases were found during 2012-2014 among 570 elderly former leprosy patients. Most of cases were classic type scabies (87%) and aged 75 years and older (72%).

Spectrophotometric measurement of minimal erythema dose sites after narrowband ultraviolet B phototesting: clinical implication of spetrophotometric values in phototherapy.

Background: The spectrophotometer is well known to be a useful tool for estimating the objective minimal erythema dose (MED) during planning of phototherapy protocol. However, only a few spectrophotometric values are used to evaluate the erythema and pigmentation of the MED site during phototesting.

Objective: To determinea new meaning of the relationships among spectrophotometric values during phototesting.
