Background: The COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic has been a major stressor for the mental health and well-being of children and adolescents. Surveys and reports from hotlines indicate a significant rise in mental health problems. As the psychiatric emergency room (ER) is a first-line free-of-charge facility for psychiatric emergencies, we expected to see a significant increase in visits, specifically of new patients suffering from anxiety, depression, or stress-related disorders.

Objective: To determine the rate of lymphoproliferative disease (LPD) in women undergoing routine breast cancer screening (BCS). BCS can reveal pathologies other than carcinoma that involve the breast and lymph tissue. The few studies that have described cases in which BCS led to the diagnosis of LPD were based on small series and focused on imaging rather than clinical characteristics.

Background: Pericardial biopsies are rarely performed during the diagnosis and management of pericardial diseases. The circumstances and clinical profile of patients undergoing pericardial biopsies are largely uncharacterized.
Objectives: To examine the circumstances in which pericardial biopsies are obtained and to evaluate their diagnostic yield.

Studies of ciliopathies have served in elucidating much of our knowledge of structure and function of primary cilia. We report humans with Bardet-Biedl syndrome who display intellectual disability, retinitis pigmentosa, obesity, short stature and brachydactyly, stemming from a homozyogous truncation mutation in SCAPER, a gene previously associated with mitotic progression. Our findings, based on linkage analysis and exome sequencing studies of two remotely related large consanguineous families, are in line with recent reports of SCAPER variants associated with intellectual disability and retinitis pigmentosa.

Microtubule associated protein 11 (MAP11, previously termed C7orf43) encodes a highly conserved protein whose function is unknown. Through genome-wide linkage analysis combined with whole exome sequencing, we demonstrate that human autosomal recessive primary microcephaly is caused by a truncating mutation in MAP11. Moreover, homozygous MAP11-orthologue CRISPR/Cas9 knock-out zebrafish presented with microcephaly and decreased neuronal proliferation, recapitulating the human phenotype.

Background Infections are common among patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), and are associated with increased morbidity and mortality. Objectives To determine whether SLE is an independent risk factor for short- and long-term mortality in patients admitted to an intensive care unit (ICU) with sepsis, and to identify the characteristics of SLE patients admitted to an ICU with sepsis. Methods A retrospective age- and sex-matched cohort study, based on data of the SEPSIS-ISR (Sepsis Israel) Registry, an ongoing study that collects data on all patients admitted with sepsis to the ICUs.

Aims: To determine the prevalence of mitral regurgitation (MR) in a large cohort of consecutive patients undergoing clinically indicated echocardiography and to examine the distribution of primary and secondary MR.
Methods And Results: All patients undergoing an echocardiographic study in 19 European centres within a 3-month period were prospectively included. MR assessment was performed as recommended by the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI).

Background: Inadvertent hyperthermia during anaesthesia is a rare but life-threatening complication. We have encountered several cases of severe hyperthermia in paediatric patients undergoing anaesthesia for cochlear implantation.
Methods: This study aimed to describe the clinical characteristics of children who developed hyperthermia while undergoing cochlear implantation, and to explore possible mechanisms and predisposing factors.

The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of anaemia and the practice of anaemia screening during the first year following diagnosis, in a European prospective population-based inception cohort.
Methods: Newly diagnosed IBD patients were included and followed prospectively for 1 year in 29 European and one Australian centre.

Coronary atherosclerosis is a progressive disease. We sought to determine whether this fact also applies to patients at an advanced age with normal coronary arteries (NCAs) undergoing repeat catheterization at least 5 years later. Of the 189 patients who were found to have NCAs, 154 (81%) remained with NCAs and 35 (19%) developed obstructive coronary artery disease (OCAD).

Background & Aims: Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) is impaired in patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). The aim was prospectively to assess and validate the pattern of HRQoL in an unselected, population-based inception cohort of IBD patients from Eastern and Western Europe.
Methods: The EpiCom inception cohort consists of 1560 IBD patients from 31 European centres covering a background population of approximately 10.

Digestive Disease Centre, Medical Section, Herlev University Hospital, Copenhagen, Denmark.
Background And Aims: The incidence of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is increasing in Eastern Europe possibly due to changes in environmental factors towards a more "westernised" standard of living. The aim of this study was to investigate differences in exposure to environmental factors prior to diagnosis in Eastern and Western European IBD patients.
Methods: The EpiCom cohort is a population-based, prospective inception cohort of 1560 unselected IBD patients from 31 European countries covering a background population of 10.

Background: The left anterior descending artery (LAD) supplies blood to a large part of the myocardium. However, the amount of myocardium supplied varies depending on the length of the LAD and as a result, occlusion of its proximal portion may influence outcome. We investigated the prognosis of patients with anterior wall myocardial infarction as the initial presentation of coronary disease who underwent primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PPCI) in our institution due to isolated proximal LAD occlusion.

Purpose: The purpose of the present study is to investigate whether hemodialysis (HD) is effective in lowering blood glutamate levels. In addition, we examined the effect of HD on glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase (GOT) and glutamate pyruvate transaminase (GPT) levels in the blood and described the rate and pattern of blood glutamate clearance during HD.
Materials And Methods: Blood samples were taken from 45 patients with stage V chronic kidney disease immediately after initiation of HD and hourly, for a total of 5 blood samples.
