Aim: The COVID-19 pandemic led to isolation measures intended to curb the spread of infection, which are believed to have negatively affected children's psychological well-being. This study examines the impact of the pandemic on parental attachment with children.

Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted with children visiting a general pediatrics clinic between April 1 and 20, 2023.

Evaluating pregnancy termination decisions for fetal anomalies: a retrospective study in a tertiary referral center.

Objective: The aim of this study was to examine the factors that influence pregnancy termination due to fetal anomalies, regardless of gestational age, within the legal framework of Turkey.

Methods: This retrospective study was conducted between January 2021 and July 2023 at a tertiary perinatology center to analyze patients undergoing pregnancy termination. The process involved multidisciplinary evaluations and informed consent, resulting in 326 pregnancy terminations, categorized by gestational timing.

Efficiency of the Local Infi ltration Analgesia Method in Total Knee Artroplasty Surgeries.

Purpose Of The Study: Postoperative pain after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is severe because of bone and soft tissue trauma during the surgery and is diffi cult to control with oral analgesics. The primary aim of the study was to investigate the effects of the local infi ltration anesthesia (LIA) method on postoperative analgesia quality and opioid consumption in patients undergoing TKA. The secondary aims were to evaluate knee fl exion angle, side effects, and patient satisfaction.

The etiology of addiction has not yet been fully elucidated. The ratio between the length of the second and fourth fingers (2D:4D ratio) has been linked with prenatal androgen concentrations, but also with addictive behvaiors. Aim: The present study aimed to evaluate the differences of 2D:4D ratio of individuals with cannabis and heroin addiction by examining them together with the control group.

Introduction: Acute renal failure (ARF), which may occur as a result of hypovolemia, is frequently diagnosed in emergency departments. It is essential to determine these patients' volume status and fluid requirement. The aim of this study was to examine the change in the inferior vena cava (IVC) collapsibility index and perfusion index (PI) in order to evaluate fluid deficit, volume status, and response to fluid therapy in patients with prerenal ARF who presented with signs of hypovolemia.

Evaluation of endotracheal intubations in the emergency department of a tertiary care facility.

Objective: In this study, we aimed to evaluate the performance of emergency department intubations for 1 year.

Methods: This was a retrospective analysis of prospectively collected data. The collected variables were patient demographics, indication for intubation, preintubation hemodynamics, preoxygenation methods, medications used for premedication, induction and paralysis, type of laryngoscope used, Cormack-Lehane (C-L) grades, number of intubation attempts, and peri-intubation adverse events.

Aim: We aimed to evaluate the awareness of pneumococcal vaccination (PCV13, PPSV23) in general cardiology outpatient clinics and impact of physicians' recommendations on vaccination rates.

Methods: This was a multicenter, observational, prospective cohort study. Patients over the age of 18 from 40 hospitals in different regions of Turkey who applied to the cardiology outpatient clinic between September 2022 and August 2021 participated.

Objectives: In this study, we aimed to evaluate the clinical significance of osmophobia and its effect on quality of life in people with migraine.

Methods: A total of 145 people with migraine were included in this cross-sectional study. Patients were evaluated with the migraine data form, the Migraine 24-Hour Quality of Life Questionnaire (24-HrMQoLQ), the Migraine Disability Assessment Scale (MIDAS), the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), the Insomnia Severity Index (ISI), the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7), the Allodynia Symptom Checklist (ASC), and the Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS).

Analysis of Clinical Outcomes in Pediatric Distal Tibia Triplanar Fractures Treated Surgically and Conservatively.

Effects of social stress and fluoxetine treatment on fracture healing in a rat femur fracture model.

Background: Mental stress and depressive disorders have negative effect on bone biology and increase fracture risk. Fluoxetine is a widely used selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor in the treatment of these disorders. We aimed to evaluate the effects of social stress and fluoxetine treatment on fracture healing.

Evaluation of structural valve deterioration and bioprosthetic valve failure utilizing the new European consensus definition in patients undergoing TAVI with first-generation devices: Outcomes beyond 5 years from a single center in Turkey.

Objective: The long-term durability of transcatheter aortic bioprosthetic valves continues to be a major concern. Standardized criteria of the structural valve deterioration (SVD) and bioprosthetic valve failure (BVF) have recently been defined. Limited studies have evaluated the long-term durability of transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) according to these new definitions.

Echocardiographic assessment of children participating in regular sports training.

Objective: The aim of the present study was to determine the effects of a well-controlled endurance training program on cardiac functions and structures in healthy children and to define whether training hours per week and type of sports affect the training-induced cardiovascular response.

Methods: Echocardiographic recordings were obtained in 126 children who systematically participated in sports training for at least 1 year (study group), and the results were compared with the values obtained in 62 normal children who did not actively engage in any sports activity (control group). The two groups were comparable for age, sex, and body mass index.

Optic nerve involvement in ocular toxoplasmosis: 12 year data from a tertiary referral center in Turkey.

Purpose: To evaluate the prevalence, clinical characteristics, and types of optic nerve involvement in patients with ocular toxoplasmosis.

Methods: For this retrospective cross-sectional study, we examined all patients with active ocular toxoplasmosis referred to our Uveitis Section during the last 12 years, and we included patients with optic nerve involvement in the study. The primary outcome was the prevalence of optic nerve involvement, and secondary outcomes included the types of optic nerve involvement and the final best-corrected visual acuity after treatment.

Analyses with the Video Head Impulse Test During the Canalith Repositioning Maneuver in Patients with Isolated Posterior Semicircular Canal Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo.

Objective: To evaluate the posterior semicircular canal (PSCC) functions using video head impulse test (vHIT) during canalith repositioning maneuver (CRM) treatment in patients with isolated, posterior semicircular canal benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (PSCC-BPPV).

Methods: A total of 44 subjects comprising of 24 subjects with isolated PSCC-BPPV and 20 age- and sex-matched healthy control subjects were enrolled in the present study. vHIT was performed for the affected PSCC before and just after CRM and at the third and seventh day and first month to evaluate vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR) gain, gain asymmetry (GA), and corrective saccades.

Stabilization Time of Anterior Segment Parameters After Trabeculectomy Surgery.

Objectives: To investigate the postoperative changes in the anterior segment parameters by Scheimpflug imaging method in patients undergoing trabeculectomy surgery.

Methods: This prospective study included 38 phakic eyes of 38 patients with primary open-angle glaucoma who underwent trabeculectomy. Anterior chamber angle (ACA), anterior chamber depth (ACD), anterior chamber volume (ACV), and central corneal thickness (CCT) of the eyes were measured by performing Scheimpflug imaging in preoperative (baseline) and postoperative periods (1st week and 1st, 3rd, and 6th months after the surgery).

The efficacy of intravitreal dexamethasone implant as the first-line treatment for retinal vein occlusion-related macular edema in a real-life scenario.

Purpose: This study evaluated the effect of intravitreal dexamethasone implant (IDI; Ozurdex) injection for treating macular edema in patients with branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO) or central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO).

Methods: This prospective study included 40 eyes of 40 patients with nonischemic BRVO and 31 eyes of 31 patients with nonischemic CRVO who received IDI injection as the first-line treatment for macular edema. The best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) value before and after the treatment; intraocular pressure; optic coherence tomography findings; and all ocular examination findings, including central foveal thickness (CFT) measurement and fluorescein angiography findings, were evaluated for each patient.

Confocal Microscopic Evaluation of Corneal Nerve Fibers and Dendritic Cells in Patients With Behçet's Disease.

Central and peripheral nervous system involvement may occur during the course of Behçet's disease (BD). corneal confocal microscopy (CCM) can detect corneal small fiber damage and immune cell density. The aim of this study was to assess central corneal sensitivity, corneal subepithelial nerve plexus morphology and dendritic cell (DC) density in patients with BD.

Retinal nerve fiber layer thickness in children with β-thalassemia major.

Purpose: To measure the retinal nerve fiber layer thickness (RNFLT) in children with β-thalassemia major and to compare with healthy controls.

Methods: A total of 47 patients with β-thalassemia major and 51 healthy controls were included. Each subject underwent a standard ophthalmological examination.

Evaluation of Ocular Surface Health in Patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome.

Objectives: To evaluate ocular surface health in obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) and to investigate the tendency of these patients toward dry eyes.

Materials And Methods: Fifty patients who underwent polysomnography and were diagnosed with OSAS and 50 normal control subjects were compared with respect to ocular surface disease index (OSDI), Schirmer I test and tear film break-up time (TBUT) values.

Results: Patients were grouped as mild (n=15, 30%), moderate (n=15, 30%) and severe (n=20, 40%) according to apnea-hypopnea index values.

Surgical management of traumatic nasolacrimal duct obstruction.

Purpose: To evaluate etiologies, demographics, and surgical outcomes in cases of traumatic nasolacrimal duct obstruction (NLDO).

Methods: Charts of 35 patients with the diagnosis of traumatic NLDO were reviewed retrospectively. Patient demographics, type of trauma, previous lacrimal surgery history, surgical treatment, follow-up time, and anatomical and functional outcomes were evaluated.
