Metallogels built in a bottom-up approach by metal coordination and supramolecular interactions have important potential for the elaboration of smart materials. In this context, we present here the formation of supramolecular coordination polymers driven by the complexation of cobalt(II) or zinc(II) ions with polyoxometalate-based hybrids displaying two terpyridine ligands in a linear arrangement. Thanks to the electrostatic interactions between the polyoxometalate cores and metal nodes, the polymer chains self-assemble into fibers that physically cross-link to form gels above a critical concentration.

Lower mini-sternotomy: an approach for treating all valvulopathies?

Mechanical Circulatory Support for Massive Pulmonary Embolism.

Up to 50% of patients with pulmonary embolism (PE) experience hemodynamic instability and approximately 70% of patients who die of PE experience an accelerated cascade of symptoms within the first hours of onset of symptoms, thus necessitating rapid evaluation and intervention. Venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation and other ventricular assist devices, depending on the hemodynamic derangements present, may be used to stabilize patients with massive PE refractory to initial therapies or with contraindications to other interventions. Given the abnormalities in both pulmonary circulation and gas exchange caused by massive PE, venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation may be considered the preferred form of mechanical circulatory support for most patients.

Effect of oral nintedanib vs placebo on epistaxis in hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia: the EPICURE multicenter randomized double-blind trial.

Epistaxis greatly affects patients with hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT). Although few systemic treatment exist, nintedanib, is a good candidate thanks to its anti-angiogenic activity. Background: This work aims at providing practical recommendations for implementing automated surveillance (AS) of surgical site infections (SSI) in hospitals and surveillance networks. It also provides an overview of the steps, choices, and obstacles that need to be taken into consideration when implementing such surveillance. Hands-on experience with existing automated surveillance systems of SSI (AS SSI systems) in Denmark, France, the Netherlands and Spain is described regarding trend monitoring, benchmarking, quality control, and research for surveillance purposes.

Stability of bilirubin and oxyhaemoglobin in cerebrospinal fluid.

Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is routinely investigated to diagnose subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH) in cases with unclear neuroimaging findings. Using spectrophotometry, the levels of bilirubin and oxyhaemoglobin are analysed. This study investigates the stability for bilirubin and oxyhaemoglobin in CSF samples for up to 3 weeks measured with a spectrophotometer.

Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation in trauma patient in France: a retrospective nationwide registry.

With the increasing use of cardiac electronic implantable devices in recent years, the identification of asymptomatic atrial arrhythmias, including atrial high-rate episodes (AHREs) and device-detected subclinical atrial fibrillation (SCAF), has become common in clinical practice.
