Hypertension, cardiovascular disease and kidney failure are associated with persistent hyperglycaemia and the subsequent development of nephropathy in people with diabetes. Diabetic nephropathy is associated with widespread vascular disease affecting both the kidney and the heart from an early stage. However, the risk of diabetic nephropathy in people with type 1 diabetes is strongly genetically determined, as documented in familial transmission studies.

Introduction: Fibroids are the most common benign uterine tumors. There are different possibilities for surgical approaches, and evaluating the cost of these operations is fundamental in modern surgery. The aim of our study is to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of robotic-assisted myomectomy (RAM) compared to open myomectomy (OM) in France.

With the increasing use of cardiac electronic implantable devices in recent years, the identification of asymptomatic atrial arrhythmias, including atrial high-rate episodes (AHREs) and device-detected subclinical atrial fibrillation (SCAF), has become common in clinical practice. AHREs have potentially important clinical implications because they are considered precursors of atrial fibrillation (AF). Although to a lesser extent than clinical AF, both AHREs and device-detected SCAF are associated with thromboembolic events, however routine use of anticoagulants in these conditions is not recommended.

Background: We have previously reported that the gap junction protein connexin 43 (Cx43) was upregulated in chronic renal disease in humans and rodents and plays a crucial role in the progression of experimental nephropathy. In this study, we investigated its role after renal ischemia/reperfusion (rIR), which is a major mechanism of injury in acute renal injury (AKI) and renal transplant graft dysfunction.
Methods: Wild-type mice (WT) and mice in which Cx43 expression was genetically reduced by half (Cx43 ±) were unilaterally nephrectomized.

The design of a new visible-light methacrylated-based kraft lignin photosensitizer (MAcL) of iodonium salt (Iod) for the free-radical polymerization (FRP) of polyethylene glycol dimethacrylate (PEGDMA) under LEDs@405, 455, 470, 505, and 530 nm is reported. As demonstrated by laser flash photolysis (LFP) and electron paramagnetic resonance spin-trapping (EPR ST) experiments, the combination of MAcL with an electron acceptor (Iod) and trimethylolpropane tris(3-mercaptopropionate) (TT) used as a crosslinker, leads to the formation of highly efficient initiating radicals, i.e.

Background: The aim of this study was to characterize hereditary spastic paraplegias (HSP) patients' urodynamic profiles and development of bladder symptoms.
Methods: This is a multicentric retrospective study which included patients presenting with bladder disorders. We reviewed medical and urodynamic records in individuals with HSP and recorded age at onset of gait and bladder disorders, disability stage at the time of urodynamic assessment.

The development and origin of animal body forms have long been intensely explored, from the analysis of morphological traits during antiquity to Newtonian mechanical conceptions of morphogenesis. Advent of molecular biology then focused most interests on the biochemical patterning and genetic regulation of embryonic development. Today, a view is arising of development of multicellular living forms as a phenomenon emerging from non-hierarchical, reciprocal mechanical and mechanotransductive interactions between biochemical patterning and biomechanical morphogenesis.

The treatment of relapsed/refractory acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is associated with a dismal prognosis. The allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (allo-HCT) is frequently performed as salvage therapy. Reduced intensity conditioning protocols have been developed with the aim of reducing the leukemia burden without increasing their toxicity.

Purpose: This study aimed to assess the relationship between kinetics of bladder sensations perception, detrusor overactivity (DO), and severity of overactive bladder (OAB) symptoms in patients with multiple sclerosis (PwMS).
Methods: All PwMS who underwent urodynamic assessment including three cystometries (20 ml/min, 100 ml/min, and 100 ml/min with 4°C fluid) between June 2020 and October 2022 were included in this retrospective study. Data collected were bladder diaries, symptoms assessed with Urinary Symptoms Profile (USP), bladder sensations with first desire to void (FDV) and strong desire to void (SDV) during the 20ml/min cystometry, and presence of DO.

The last giant impact on Earth is thought to have formed the Moon. The timing of this event can be determined by dating the different rocks assumed to have crystallized from the lunar magma ocean (LMO). This has led to a wide range of estimates for the age of the Moon between 4.

Retinoblastoma (RB) proteins are highly conserved transcriptional regulators that play important roles during development by regulating cell-cycle gene expression. RBL2 dysfunction has been linked to a severe neurodevelopmental disorder. However, to date, clinical features have only been described in six individuals carrying five biallelic predicted loss of function (pLOF) variants.

Pre-training strategies based on self-supervised learning (SSL) have demonstrated success as pretext tasks for downstream tasks in computer vision. However, while SSL methods are often domain-agnostic, their direct application to medical imaging is challenging due to the distinct nature of medical images, including specific anatomical and temporal patterns relevant to disease progression. Additionally, traditional SSL pretext tasks often lack the contextual knowledge that is essential for clinical decision support.

Introduction: We aim to assess the association of patient-reported pain and remission or low disease activity (LDA) at 3 months (M) in patients receiving baricitinib or other treatments in RA-BE-REAL.
Methods: RA-BE-REAL reports on patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) who were prescribed, for the first time, baricitinib (cohort A) or a tumour necrosis factor inhibitor (TNFi) (cohort B-TNFi) or any other mode of action (OMA) (cohort B-OMA). Pain was measured using the visual analogue scale (VAS) (0-100 mm) and clinically meaningful pain improvement thresholds of ≥ 30%, ≥ 50% and ≥ 70% from baseline to 3, 6, 12 and 24 M.

The skin hydration level is a key factor that influences the physical and mechanical properties of the skin. The stratum corneum (SC), the outermost layer of the epidermis, is responsible for the skin's barrier function. In this study, we investigated the role of a unique composition of extract for its ability to activate CD44, a cell-surface receptor of hyaluronic acid, and aquaporin-3, a water-transporting protein, in human keratinocytes (HaCaT).
