Flooding causes severe yield losses worldwide, making it urgent to enhance crop tolerance to this stress. Since natural flooding often involves physical flow, we hypothesized that the effects of submergence on plants could change when combined with physical flow. In this study, we analyzed the growth and transcriptome of exposed to submergence or flooding with physical flow.

Beige adipocytes arise from white adipocytes in response to cold or other stimuli, known as browning of white adipose. Beige adipocytes play a role similar to that of brown adipocytes, express high levels of uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1), and are responsible for energy consumption via heat production, thus aiding in fat loss. Although histidine (His) and soy isoflavone (Iso) co-ingestion reportedly reduces food intake, body weight, and fat accumulation in female rats, the underlying mechanism remains unclear.

We present the X-ray crystal structure of a complex between a G-clamp and an internal loop motif of pre-mir-125a, selected from high affinity RNAs identified in a large-scale RNA-binding profile. This X-ray crystal structure reveals that the G-clamp interacts with three distinct guanine bases, forming robust bonds through hydrogen bonding and stacking interactions.

Multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) methods have been extensively employed by researchers in the public transport (PT) sector. While many studies utilize a single MCDM method, employing multiple MCDM methods can achieve more robust results. Furthermore, integrated MCDM methods have the potential to address the weaknesses and limitations inherent in single MCDM method.

Using the self-consistent reaction field (SCRF) method, the nitrogen isotopic reduction partition function ratio (RPFR), a fundamental physical quantity for theoretical consideration of equilibrium isotope effects, was evaluated by density functional theory (DFT) for 20 proteinogenic and two related amino acids under physiological conditions at pH 7.4. At this pH value, all amino acids were of the zwitterion-type form with α-NH and α-COO groups, regardless of the net charge of -1 (monoanion), 0 (zwitterion), or +1 (monocation).

Nonadiabatic molecular dynamics simulations were performed to explore the photoisomerization pathway from isoxazole (iso-OXA) to oxazole (OXA), considering four electronic states. The XMS-CASPT2 and SA4-CASSCF theories were employed to describe these electronic structures, which were caused by 12 electrons in 11 orbitals with the cc-pVDZ + sp diffuse basis set; the Gaussian s- and p-type diffuse functions were extracted from Dunning's aug-cc-pVDZ function. The potential energy and its gradient at each time step were computed on-the-fly at these levels in the time evolution of the classical trajectory.

Catalytic applications of DNA duplexes containing Ag-mediated cytosine-cytosine base pairs (C-Ag-C) have not been well investigated. In this study, we demonstrate a novel approach for forming highly active DNA-capped Ag nanoparticle (DNA-AgNP) catalysts for the reduction of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) using sodium borohydride (NaBH). This approach is based on the generation of DNA-AgNPs from DNA duplexes containing C-Ag-C (DNA duplex-Ag).

Cations in ionic liquids (ILs) are typically derived from ammonium or phosphonium structures with long alkyl chains, and it is well established that the central atom significantly influences the properties of the resulting ILs. In this study, an arsonium-based IL, trihexylmethylarsonium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)amide, was synthesized. The arsonium cation was found to contribute to lower viscosity and higher ionic conductivity, while maintaining sufficient stability compared to its phosphonium counterpart.

The continued development of computational approaches to many-body ground-state problems in physics and chemistry calls for a consistent way to assess its overall progress. In this work, we introduce a metric of variational accuracy, the V-score, obtained from the variational energy and its variance. We provide an extensive curated dataset of variational calculations of many-body quantum systems, identifying cases where state-of-the-art numerical approaches show limited accuracy and future algorithms or computational platforms, such as quantum computing, could provide improved accuracy.

Pre-mRNA splicing is a fundamental process in eukaryotic gene expression, and the mechanism of intron definition, involving the recognition of the canonical GU (5'-splice site) and AG (3'-splice site) dinucleotides by splicing factors, has been postulated for most cases of splicing initiation in plants. Splice site mutations have played crucial roles in unraveling the mechanism of pre-mRNA splicing . Typically, splice site mutations abolish splicing events or activate one or more cryptic splice sites surrounding the mutated region.

This article reports on recycling e-wastes using a VVF power cable as a model through a rapid pyrolytic process following exposure to microwave radiation. This occurred three possible pathways: (i) discharges at the copper wire on exposure to microwaves, with heat produced causing the thermal decomposition of the covering material - a relationship exists between the length of the copper wire and the wavelength of the microwaves; (ii) microwave heating softened the wire's covering material and ultimately led to its decomposition - in addition, the coating material carbonized by the discharge is rapidly heated by microwaves; (iii) the carbonaceous component present in the covering material absorbed the microwaves, causing the thermal decomposition. On the other hand, for VVF cables longer than 12 cm canceled the wavelength-dependent process, and the longer the VVF cable was, the more efficient was the microwave-induced pyrolysis, therefore eliminating the need to pre-cut the waste VVF cable into smaller pieces.

Conventional pyrolysis methods to chemically recycle plastic waste require significant energy input owing to inefficient energy transfer from the heat sources to plastics and the generation of excess CO. Accordingly, there is an urgent need to develop alternative methods for the chemical recycling of waste plastics to limit global warming. In this study, the use of microwaves (MWs) as an efficient energy source for pyrolysis and chemical recycling.
