Introduction: Effective chemotherapy has not yet to be developed for castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC). Cell-mediated enzyme prodrug therapy (EPT), including a combination of carboxylesterase (CE) and irinotecan (CPT-11), could be a possible treatment option. This study explored a cell-mediated EPT, including a combination of CE and irinotecan (CPT-11), to inhibit CRPC tumor growth using rabbit CE-overexpressing human TERT-immortalized adipose-derived stem cells (hTERT-ADSC.

Limited evidence exists regarding the value of robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) in promoting health outcomes in patients with prostate cancer (PCa) in Korea, prompting a study to determine its clinical impact. The study included 15,501 patients with PCa who underwent RARP (n = 12,268) or radical prostatectomy (RP) (n = 3,233) between 2009 and 2017. The outcomes were compared using a Cox proportional hazards model after propensity score matching.

Aim: Owing to the limited ability of current imaging modalities, several clinical T1 renal cell carcinomas (cT1 RCCa) can be pathologically upstaged to T3a (pT3a) after surgery. There have been some controversies regarding the oncological safety of partial nephrectomy (PNx) compared with radical nephrectomy (RNx) in these patients. We compared oncological outcomes of PNx and RNx in patients with upstaged pT3a RCCa.

Upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) is a very uncommon disease that occupies for <5% of all urothelial cancers. Radical nephroureterectomy (RNU) remains the standard-of-care for UTUC; however, when patients with locally advanced UTUC are treated with RNU only, the recurrence rate is high. Therefore, perioperative chemotherapy has been proposed given the high systemic recurrence rate.

Sequential treatment of androgen receptor axis targeted agents (ARAT), abiraterone acetate (ABI) and enzalutamide (ENZA), in metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) demonstrated some positive effects, but cross-resistances between ABI and ENZA that reduce activity have been suggested. Therefore, we conducted a meta-analysis to compare oncologic outcomes between the treatment sequences of ABI-ENZA and ENZA-ABI in patients with mCRPC. The primary endpoint was a combined progression-free survival (PFS), and the secondary endpoint was overall survival (OS).

Treatment-related adverse events (AEs) can obfuscate the maintenance of a conventional schedule of sunitinib in patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma. Accordingly, alternative schedules seeking to improve the safety profile of sunitinib have been tested. Recently, two meta-analyses similarly described improved safety profiles favoring a two weeks on and one week off (2/1) schedule, but with conflicting results for survival outcomes.
