Aim: To date, there is no reported effective biomarker that can predict which Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients will respond to donepezil and which will not. This study aimed to investigate whether baseline values of Aβ oligomers (AβOs), measured by the Multimer Detection System-Oligomeric Aβ (MDS-OAβ), can be used to predict responders after 6 months of donepezil medication.
Methods: The study enrolled 104 patients diagnosed with probable AD.

X-linked juvenile retinoschisis (XLRS) is a hereditary retinal degeneration affecting young males caused by mutations in the retinoschisin () gene. We generated human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) from XLRS patients and established three-dimensional retinal organoids (ROs) for disease investigation. This disease model recapitulates the characteristics of XLRS, exhibiting defects in RS1 protein production and photoreceptor cell development.

Background: Modern neurosurgery has undergone significant evolution to include minimally invasive procedures, with the supraorbital approach (SOA) being a prime example. In this study, we aim to explore the surgical techniques and outcomes of this approach in the surgical treatment of frontal lobe, anterior skull base, and parasellar lesions.
Methods: This study included 33 patients aged 36-83 years who underwent surgery using the SOA for lesions in the inferior frontal lobe, anterior skull base, and parasellar area between 2015 and 2024.

The optimal treatment strategy for newly diagnosed primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL) has yet to be established, especially in the elderly. In the current study, we conducted a phase II study to evaluate the efficacy and safety of rituximab plus high-dose MTX followed by rituximab plus cytarabine in patients aged ≥60 years newly diagnosed with PCNSL. Patients received an induction treatment of high-dose methotrexate plus rituximab followed by two cycles of a consolidation treatment of cytarabine plus rituximab.

Background: Although the all-inside arthroscopic modified Broström operation (AMBO) and open modified Broström operation (OMBO) for chronic lateral ankle instability (CLAI) showed favorable outcomes up to 1-year short-term follow-up, concerns about the long-term stability of AMBO are still present. Therefore, we aimed to compare midterm outcomes between the 2 methods by extending the observation period.
Methods: Fifty-four patients undergoing ankle surgery between August 2013 and July 2017 were included in the AMBO (n = 37) and OMBO (n = 17) groups.

Background: Lymph node (LN) metastasis is an established prognostic factor for patients with surgically resected ampulla of Vater (AoV) cancer. The standard procedure for radical resection, including removal of regional LNs, is pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD); however, local excision has been considered as an alternative option for patients in the early stage cancer with significant comorbidities. In the present study, we elucidated the preoperative factors associated with LN metastasis to determine the appropriate surgical extent for T1 AoV cancer.

Objective: This study was performed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of lurasidone (160 mg/day) compared to quetiapine XR (QXR; 600 mg/day) in the treatment of acutely psychotic patients with schizophrenia.
Methods: Patients were randomly assigned to 6 weeks of double-blind treatment with lurasidone 160 mg/day (n=105) or QXR 600 mg/day (n=105). Primary efficacy measure was the change from baseline to week 6 in Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) total score and Clinical Global Impressions severity (CGI-S) score.

Breast cancer remains a significant health concern for women, with a significant number of women facing unresectable, symptomatic, and advanced disease that severely affects their quality of life. Palliative radiotherapy (RT) is a well-established modality for managing such cases and alleviating symptoms. Recent advancements in systemic therapies and the resulting increase in long-term survival rates have not only heightened the need for retreatment in certain patients, but have also emphasized the importance of achieving durable local control.

The term "Juxtafacet cyst" refers to both synovial cysts and ganglion pseudocysts associated with the lumbar facet joint. As conservative treatment for the juxtafacet cyst has a minimal effect, complete excision through surgery is considered the first choice of treatment. In this study, we retrospectively reviewed the clinical outcomes of percutaneous epidural neuroplasty for symptomatic lumbar juxtafacet cysts.

The aim of our retrospective study is to develop and assess an imaging-based model utilizing F-FDG PET parameters for predicting the five-year survival in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients after curative surgery. A total of 361 NSCLC patients who underwent curative surgery were assigned to the training set ( = 253) and the test set ( = 108). The LASSO regression model was used to construct a PET-based risk score for predicting five-year survival.

Pure-tone audiometry, using an audiometer, is the fundamental hearing test for diagnosing hearing loss. The requirements of the devices and the detailed process for calibrating the related equipment are described in international standards. However, traceable calibration and uncertainty evaluation processes are not widely accepted or applied to the qualification and maintenance of audiometric equipment.

Autophagy is critical for energy homeostasis and the function of organelles such as endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and mitochondria. Dysregulated autophagy due to aging, environmental factors, or genetic predisposition can be an underlying cause of not only diabetes through β-cell dysfunction and metabolic inflammation, but also diabetic complications such as diabetic kidney diseases (DKDs). Dysfunction of lysosomes, effector organelles of autophagic degradation, due to metabolic stress or nutrients/metabolites accumulating in metabolic diseases is also emerging as a cause or aggravating element in diabetes and its complications.

Severe pneumonia results in high morbidity and mortality despite advanced treatments. This study investigates thoracic muscle mass from chest CT scans as a biomarker for predicting clinical outcomes in ICU patients with severe pneumonia. Analyzing electronic medical records and chest CT scans of 778 ICU patients with severe community-acquired pneumonia from January 2016 to December 2021, AI-enhanced 3D segmentation was used to assess thoracic muscle mass.
