Impact of high body mass index on hepatocellular carcinoma risk in chronic liver disease: A population-based prospective cohort study.

Background And Aims: We investigated associations between body mass index (BMI) and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in patients with hepatitis B (HBV) C (HCV) virus infection, alcoholic liver disease (ALD), non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), and liver cirrhosis (LC).

Methods: We followed 350,608 Korean patients with liver disease who underwent routine health examinations from 2003-2006 until December 2018 via national hospital discharge records. Multivariable adjusted hazard ratios (HRs) per 5-kg/m2 BMI increase (BMI ≥25 kg/m2) for HCC risk were calculated using Cox models.

CAGE-B and SAGE-B models better predict the hepatitis B virus-related hepatocellular carcinoma after 5-year entecavir treatment than PAGE-B.

Stereotactic body radiotherapy versus radiofrequency ablation as initial treatment of small hepatocellular carcinoma.

Background/aim: Stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) may be an alternative treatment for patients with small (≤3 cm) hepatocellular carcinomas (HCCs) who were not indicated for resection or local ablation therapy. This study compared the therapeutic effects of radiofrequency ablation (RFA) and SBRT in patients with small (≤3 cm) HCCs.

Methods: Data of HCC patients who underwent SBRT or RFA as an initial treatment at four tertiary referral hospitals between March 2011 and February 2017 were reviewed.

Objectives: Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) accounts for approximately 90% of all renal malignancy. Because a rich vasculature is an outstanding feature of RCC, information on the blood vessels of RCC might explain its tumor characteristics. Several researchers have noted the effects of tumor vessels on the clinicopathologic characteristics and prognosis of tumors; however, a clear association has not been established.

Blood urea nitrogen/creatinine change ratio as a delta check method for dialysis specimens.

The delta check is used in clinical laboratories to detect specimen mislabeling or misidentification. However, test results can differ markedly pre-versus post-dialysis, and the delta check in fact typically has little value, as well as being labor intensive. We propose the "blood urea nitrogen/creatinine change ratio" (BCCR) as a new delta check method for dialysis cases.

Intramuscular composite hemangioendothelioma: case report of an unusual tumor in an unusual location.

Composite hemangioendothelioma (CHE) is an extremely rare locally aggressive vascular neoplasm comprising various benign, intermediate, and malignant vascular components. It is usually located superficially, in the dermis and subcutis of the extremities. Herein, we report a first case of CHE arising from the skeletal muscle in a 67-year-old woman who presented with a palpable mass on her right forearm.

Dynamics of liver stiffness-based risk prediction model during antiviral therapy in patients with chronic hepatitis B.

From March 2011 to December 2016, 85 patients underwent SBRT with TACE (SBRT-TACE group) and 114 underwent TACE (TACE group) at 4 tertiary hospitals.

Hepatitis B virus reactivation after radiotherapy for hepatocellular carcinoma and efficacy of antiviral treatment: A multicenter study.

Convincing data that support routine use of preventive therapy against hepatitis B virus (HBV) reactivation in radiotherapy (RT) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) are lacking. The aim of this study was to investigate the incidence, clinical significance, and risk factors of HBV reactivation after RT. Medical records of 133 HBsAg (+) HCC patients who received radiotherapy from March 2009 to February 2016 were reviewed.

Myxoid dermatofibroma on a great toe: a case report.

Dermatofibroma is a common benign fibrohistiocytic tumor with many clinicopathological variants. Myxoid dermatofibroma is one of these variants, which is characterized by marked stromal mucin deposition. This report presents a case of myxoid dermatofibroma on a great toe that had been slowly growing for two years.

Sarcomatoid combined hepatocellular-cholangiocarcinoma: a case report and review of literature.

Sarcomatoid combined hepatocellular-cholangiocarcinoma is an extremely rare primary hepatic malignancy and only a few cases have been reported. Herein, we report a case of combined hepatocellular-cholangiocarcinoma with sarcomatoid changes in a 52-year-old man, who had a history of liver cirrhosis and transarterial chemoembolization. Association between serum adipocytokine levels and microangiopathies in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Aims/introduction: It is thought that adipocytokines contribute to the increased risk of vascular complications in type 2 diabetes. However, there is still limited information on the relationship between microangiopathies and adipocytokines, such as adiponectin, leptin and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) in patients with type 2 diabetes.

Materials And Methods: The present study examined the relationship between fasting serum adiponectin, leptin, and TNF-α levels and microangiopathies in Korean type 2 diabetes.

Ante-situm liver resection in recurrent liver metastasis from colorectal cancer.

Surgical resection of liver metastases from colorectal cancer can offer long-term survival and cure in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer isolated to the liver. We present a case of a recurrent liver metastasis from rectal cancer, managed with ante-situm liver resection under total vascular exclusion and venovenous bypass with hypothermic perfusion. A 58-year-old man, who was diagnosed with liver metastasis from rectal cancer underwent a left lateral sectionectomy in January 2006.
