Background And Aims: We investigated associations between body mass index (BMI) and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in patients with hepatitis B (HBV) C (HCV) virus infection, alcoholic liver disease (ALD), non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), and liver cirrhosis (LC).
Methods: We followed 350,608 Korean patients with liver disease who underwent routine health examinations from 2003-2006 until December 2018 via national hospital discharge records. Multivariable adjusted hazard ratios (HRs) per 5-kg/m2 BMI increase (BMI ≥25 kg/m2) for HCC risk were calculated using Cox models.

Objectives: The PAGE-B model consists of variables at the initiation of antiviral therapy (AVT), whereas the SAGE-B and CAGE-B models consist of variables after 5 years of AVT. We aimed to compare the predictive accuracy of three risk prediction models for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) development after 5 years of AVT in patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB).
Methods: A total of 1335 patients who initiated entecavir (ETV) treatment between 2006 and 2011 and were followed up for more than 5 years were enrolled in the study.

Background/aim: Stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) may be an alternative treatment for patients with small (≤3 cm) hepatocellular carcinomas (HCCs) who were not indicated for resection or local ablation therapy. This study compared the therapeutic effects of radiofrequency ablation (RFA) and SBRT in patients with small (≤3 cm) HCCs.
Methods: Data of HCC patients who underwent SBRT or RFA as an initial treatment at four tertiary referral hospitals between March 2011 and February 2017 were reviewed.

The Rotarex device is used for thrombectomy as well as atherectomy in patients with PAD. It is important to carefully consider the wire position of the Rotarex device during the procedure. As possible as the wire should be located in a lesion-free area.

Antiviral therapy improves survival in patients with hepatitis B virus (HBV)-induced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, the effect of antiviral therapy in patients with low-level viremia HBV-HCC receiving non-curative therapy remains unclear. We aimed to evaluate the role of antiviral therapy in patients with low-level viremia and treated with transarterial chemoembolization (TACE).

Objectives: Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) accounts for approximately 90% of all renal malignancy. Because a rich vasculature is an outstanding feature of RCC, information on the blood vessels of RCC might explain its tumor characteristics. Several researchers have noted the effects of tumor vessels on the clinicopathologic characteristics and prognosis of tumors; however, a clear association has not been established.

The delta check is used in clinical laboratories to detect specimen mislabeling or misidentification. However, test results can differ markedly pre-versus post-dialysis, and the delta check in fact typically has little value, as well as being labor intensive. We propose the "blood urea nitrogen/creatinine change ratio" (BCCR) as a new delta check method for dialysis cases.

Composite hemangioendothelioma (CHE) is an extremely rare locally aggressive vascular neoplasm comprising various benign, intermediate, and malignant vascular components. It is usually located superficially, in the dermis and subcutis of the extremities. Herein, we report a first case of CHE arising from the skeletal muscle in a 67-year-old woman who presented with a palpable mass on her right forearm.

Objective: The liver stiffness-based risk prediction models predict hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) development. We investigated the influence of antiviral therapy (AVT) on liver stiffness-based risk prediction model in patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB).
Methods: Patients with CHB who initiated AVT were retrospectively recruited from 13 referral Korean institutes.

The risk of developing hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after hepatitis B e antigen seroclearance (ESC) remains unclear. We established and validated a new risk prediction model for HCC development after ESC in patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB) receiving antiviral therapy (AVT). Between 2006 and 2016, 769 patients (training cohort) and 1,061 patients (validation cohort) with CHB who experienced ESC during AVT using entecavir (ETV) or tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF) were recruited.

Patients with liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) are often ineligible for resection or local ablation therapy due to poor liver function and/or difficult location. The aim of this study is to evaluate therapeutic outcomes of stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) combined with transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) compared with TACE alone for HCC measuring less than 5 cm. From March 2011 to December 2016, 85 patients underwent SBRT with TACE (SBRT-TACE group) and 114 underwent TACE (TACE group) at 4 tertiary hospitals.

Convincing data that support routine use of preventive therapy against hepatitis B virus (HBV) reactivation in radiotherapy (RT) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) are lacking. The aim of this study was to investigate the incidence, clinical significance, and risk factors of HBV reactivation after RT. Medical records of 133 HBsAg (+) HCC patients who received radiotherapy from March 2009 to February 2016 were reviewed.

Dermatofibroma is a common benign fibrohistiocytic tumor with many clinicopathological variants. Myxoid dermatofibroma is one of these variants, which is characterized by marked stromal mucin deposition. This report presents a case of myxoid dermatofibroma on a great toe that had been slowly growing for two years.

To examine the impact of hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) criterion on the diagnosis of prediabetes in Koreans, we analyzed nationally representative cross-sectional data of 5,845 Korean adults aged ≥20 years from the Fifth Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2011. Standardized prevalence rates of prediabetes in Korean adults by fasting plasma glucose (FPG; 5.6-6.

Sarcomatoid combined hepatocellular-cholangiocarcinoma is an extremely rare primary hepatic malignancy and only a few cases have been reported. Herein, we report a case of combined hepatocellular-cholangiocarcinoma with sarcomatoid changes in a 52-year-old man, who had a history of liver cirrhosis and transarterial chemoembolization. The resected liver revealed a mass of 4.

Aims/introduction: It is thought that adipocytokines contribute to the increased risk of vascular complications in type 2 diabetes. However, there is still limited information on the relationship between microangiopathies and adipocytokines, such as adiponectin, leptin and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) in patients with type 2 diabetes.
Materials And Methods: The present study examined the relationship between fasting serum adiponectin, leptin, and TNF-α levels and microangiopathies in Korean type 2 diabetes.

Surgical resection of liver metastases from colorectal cancer can offer long-term survival and cure in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer isolated to the liver. We present a case of a recurrent liver metastasis from rectal cancer, managed with ante-situm liver resection under total vascular exclusion and venovenous bypass with hypothermic perfusion. A 58-year-old man, who was diagnosed with liver metastasis from rectal cancer underwent a left lateral sectionectomy in January 2006.
