Kidney stones, a common urological disease, may involve the brain-kidney axis in their formation, though the specific mechanism remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the effects of blue light on relevant metabolic indicators and oxidative stress status in rats with kidney stones through the brain-kidney axis. A rat model of kidney stones was established by administering 1% ethylene glycol and 2% ammonium chloride.

Mitochondria are essential for cell metabolism and survival as they produce the majority of cellular ATP through oxidative phosphorylation as well as regulate critical processes such as cell proliferation and apoptosis. NIPSNAP family of proteins are predominantly mitochondrial matrix proteins. However, the molecular and cellular functions of the NIPSNAPs, particularly NIPSNAP3A, have remained elusive.

Adoptive cellular immunotherapy as a promising and alternative cancer therapy platform is critical for future clinical applications. Natural killer (NK) cells have attracted attention as an important type of innate immune regulatory cells that can rapidly kill multiple adjacent cancer cells. However, these cells are significantly less effective in treating solid tumors than in treating hematological tumors.

The CCN family is a group of matricellular proteins associated with the extracellular matrix. This study aims to explore the role of the CCN family in glioma development and its implications in the tumor microenvironment. Through analysis of bulk RNA-seq cohorts, correlations between CCN family expression and glioma subtypes, patient survival, and bioactive pathway enrichment were investigated.

By capturing and expressing exogenous resistance gene cassettes through site-specific recombination, integrons play important roles in the horizontal transfer of antimicrobial resistant genes among bacteria. The characteristics of integron integrase make it to be a potential gene editing tool enzyme. In this study, a random mutation library using error-prone PCR was constructed, and amino acid residues mutants that impact on attI2 × attC or attC × attC recombination efficiency were screened and analyzed.

Interferon regulatory factor 4 (IRF4) is a member of IRF family of transcription factors which mainly regulates the transcription of IFN. IRF4 is restrictively expressed in immune cells such as T and B cells, macrophages, as well as DC. It is essential for the development and function of these cells.

The basal forebrain (BF) is a complex structure that plays key roles in regulating various brain functions. However, it remains unclear how cholinergic and non-cholinergic BF neurons modulate large-scale functional networks and their relevance in intrinsic and extrinsic behaviors. With an optimized awake mouse optogenetic fMRI approach, we revealed that optogenetic stimulation of four BF neuron types evoked distinct cell-type-specific whole-brain BOLD activations, which could be attributed to BF-originated low-dimensional structural networks.

Background: The m6A modified demethylase FTO affects the progression of gastric cancer (GC), and the role mechanism of FTO in GC is still unclear. We, here, explored the role of FTO and unrevealed the mechanisms of its function in GC.
Methods: The expression and clinical prognosis of FTO in GC were examined via UALCAN and GEPIA online databases.

Background: COVID-19 and sepsis represent formidable public health challenges, characterized by incompletely elucidated molecular mechanisms. Elucidating the interplay between COVID-19 and sepsis, particularly in geriatric patients suffering from sepsis-induced acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), is of paramount importance for identifying potential therapeutic interventions to mitigate hospitalization and mortality risks.
Methods: We employed bioinformatics and systems biology approaches to identify hub genes, shared pathways, molecular biomarkers, and candidate therapeutics for managing sepsis and sepsis-induced ARDS in the context of COVID-19 infection, as well as co-existing or sequentially occurring infections.

Objective: To explore the role of long non-coding RNA ABHD11-AS1 in regulation of glycolysis in gastric cancer cells and its molecular mechanism.
Methods: The null plasmid pcDNA-Vector and the overexpression plasmid pcDNA-ABHD11-AS1 were transfected into human gastric cancer cell lines MKN45 and MGC803 with low ABHD11-AS1 expression, and the changes in cell proliferation, colony formation, migration and invasion were examined using CCK-8 assay, colony formation assay and Transwell assay. Glucose uptake and lactate production of the cells were detected to assess the changes in glycolytic activity.

Background: The existing therapeutic approaches for combating tumors are insufficient in completely eradicating malignancy, as cancer facilitates tumor relapse and develops resistance to treatment interventions. The potential mechanistic connection between SARS-CoV-2 and ESCC has received limited attention. Therefore, our objective was to investigate the characteristics of SARS-CoV-2-related-genes (SCRGs) in esophageal squamous cancer (ESCC).

To investigate the effect of targeted carboxylesterase 1f (Ces1f) gene knockdown on the polarization activity of Kupffer cells (KC) induced by lipopolysaccharide/D-galactosamine (LPS/D-GalN) in mice with acute liver failure. The complex siRNA-EndoPorter formed by combining the small RNA (siRNA) carrying the Ces1f-targeting interference sequence and the polypeptide transport carrier (Endoporter) was wrapped in β-1, 3-D glucan shell to form complex particles (GeRPs). Thirty male C57BL/6 mice were randomly divided into a normal control group, a model group (LPS/D-GalN), a pretreatment group (GeRPs), a pretreatment model group (GeRPs+LPS/D-GalN), and an empty vector group (EndoPorter).

Multimodal therapies have aroused great interest in tumor therapy due to their highly effective antitumor effect. However, immune clearance limits the practical application of nanoagents-based multimodal therapies. To solve this problem, we have designed hemoporfin-CuS hollow nanospheres camouflaged with the CT26 cell membrane (CCM) as a model of multifunctional agents, achieving homologous-targeted synergistic photothermal therapy (PTT) and sonodynamic therapy (SDT).
