Objective: Many risk factors affect dementia and all-cause mortality. However, whether falls are a risk factor for dementia and all-cause mortality is unclear. The study examines the association of falls with the risk of dementia and all-cause mortality, and whether dementia mediates the association of falls with all-cause mortality.

Colorectal cancer significantly impacts patient quality of life and burdens healthcare systems globally. Fast-track surgery (FTS) aims to alleviate some of these impacts by expediting recovery and reduce the physiological stress associated with traditional surgical approaches. Despite the clinical efficiency of FTS, there exists a gap in the literature concerning patients' subjective experiences during the perioperative period.

Background: Limited epidemiological evidence exists regarding the role of healthy eating patterns in reducing the risk of Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC). This study aimed to investigate the association between adherence to four established healthy eating patterns and subsequent CD or UC risk, and further examined whether these associations are linked to anti-inflammatory mechanisms.
Methods: We conducted a prospective cohort study of 197,391 participants from the UK Biobank who completed at least one dietary questionnaire and were free from inflammatory bowel disease or cancer at baseline.

Excess dietary sodium can accumulate in brain and adversely affect human health. We have confirmed in previous studies that high salt can induce activation of astrocyte manifested by the secretion of various inflammatory factors. In order to further explore the effect of high salt on the internal cell metabolism of astrocytes, RNA sequencing was performed on astrocytes under high salt environment, which indicated the oxidative phosphorylation and glycolysis pathways of astrocytes were downregulated.

Objective: To construct and validate a new thyroid imaging reporting and data system (TI-RADS) based on radiating blood flow and grayscale US features.
Materials And Methods: This study enrolled patients from 4 hospitals from January 2018 to November 2023 retrospectively and prospectively. All US features associated with malignant thyroid nodules were assessed by multivariable logistic regression to construct baseline US TI-RADS (BUS TI-RADS), which was tested with internal validation set, external validation set and prospective validation set.

Background: Hepatic encephalopathy (HE) represents a critical complications of end-stage liver disease, serving as an independent predictor of mortality among patients with cirrhosis. Despite effective treatment with rifaximin, some patients with HE still progress to recurrent episodes, posing a significant therapeutic challenge. Recurrent HE is defined as experiencing two or more episodes within a 6-month period.

Purpose: To investigate the incremental benefit of adding radiomic features to conventional semantic radiological feature-based differential diagnosis between benign and malignant lung nodules.
Methods: From May 2017 to March 2021, 393 patients with 465 pathologically confirmed lung nodules were enrolled with 54 patients with 54 lung nodules as external testing. Based on manually segmented lung nodules, 1409 radiomics features were extracted.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a geriatric disorder that can be roughly classified into sporadic AD and hereditary AD. The latter is strongly associated with genetic factors, and its treatment poses greater challenges compared to sporadic AD. Rotating magnetic fields (RMF) is a non-invasive treatment known to have diverse biological effects, including the modulation of the central nervous system and aging.

The issue of () resistance to clarithromycin (CLR) has consistently posed challenges for clinical treatment. Hence, a rapid susceptibility testing (AST) method urgently needs to be developed. In the present study, 35 isolates of were isolated from 203 gastritis patients of the Guangzhou cohort, and the antimicrobial resistance phenotypes were associated with their genomes to analyze the relevant mutations.

Introduction: Bladder cancer (BCa) is a common malignancy in the urinary tract. It has high recurrence rates and often requires microscopic examination, which presents significant challenges in clinical treatment. Previous research has shown that circular TAF4B (circTAF4B) is significantly upregulated in BCa and is associated with a poor prognosis.

Hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD) is widely used in polystyrene foams, building materials, and electrical equipment as a brominated flame retardant (BFR) and persists in the environment and human body matrix. It has attracted increased attention since its neuroendocrine disorder effects have been observed in humans and animals. However, studies evaluating the neurotoxicity of HBCD diastereoisomers and the potential mechanisms involved are still limited.

Aims: To explore the inter-eye retinal microvascular density asymmetry of patients on hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) therapy through optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA).
Methods: 40 subjects were enrolled in this cross-sectional study, including 20 systemic lupus erythematasus patients currently treated with HCQ (40 eyes) and 20 age- and sex-matched normal controls (NCs, 40 eyes). OCTA images were obtained to measure macular and peripapillary mircrovasculatures and microstructures, including vessel density, retinal nerver fiber layer thickness, and peripapillary ganglion cell-inner plexiform layer thickness.

Chronic hypertension (CH) during pregnancy, identified before or within the first 20 weeks, presents varying risks depending on the timing of diagnosis. This real-world study was conducted from January 2018 to June 2023 and included singleton pregnancies with CH to compare pre-pregnancy CH (Group 1) and newly diagnosed CH (Group 2). There were 565 women in the final analysis, with 307 in Group 1 with pre-pregnancy CH and 258 in Group 2 with new-onset CH.

With the substantial increase in the overuse of glucocorticoids (GCs) in clinical medicine, the prevalence of glucocorticoid-induced osteonecrosis of the femoral head (GC-ONFH) continues to rise in recent years. However, the optimal treatment for GC-ONFH remains elusive. Rotating magnetic field (RMF), considered as a non-invasive, safe and effective approach, has been proved to have multiple beneficial biological effects including improving bone diseases.

Background: Although the specific pathogenesis of preterm birth (PTB) has not been thoroughly clarified, it is known to be related to various factors, such as pregnancy complications, maternal socioeconomic factors, lifestyle habits, reproductive history, environmental and psychological factors, prenatal care, and nutritional status. PTB has serious implications for newborns and families and is associated with high mortality and complications. Therefore, the prediction of PTB risk can facilitate early intervention and reduce its resultant adverse consequences.

Studies have confirmed that P2 purinergic receptors (P2X receptors and P2Y receptors) expressed in gastric cancer (GC) cells and GC tissues and correlates with their function. Endogenous nucleotides including ATP, ADP, UTP, and UDP, as P2 purinergic receptors activators, participate in P2 purinergic signal transduction pathway. These activated P2 purinergic receptors regulate the progression of GC mainly by mediating ion channels and intracellular signal cascades.
