Cutaneous squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs) are a major complication of some subtypes of epidermolysis bullosa (EB), with high morbidity and mortality rates and unmet therapeutic needs. The high rate of endogenous mutations and the fibrotic stroma are considered to contribute to the pathogenesis. Patients with dystrophic EB (DEB) and Kindler EB (KEB) have the highest propensity for developing SCCs.

The current coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic has exceeded any epidemiologic prevision, but increasing information suggests some analogies with the major viral outbreaks in the last century, and a general warning has been issued on the possibility that coinfections can make the differential diagnosis and treatment difficult, especially in tropical countries. Some reports have noted that the presence of high dengue antibodies can give a false-negative result when testing for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. Mucocutaneous manifestations are very frequent, with an apparent overlap among different pathogens.

Background: The current standard in the serologic diagnosis of autoimmune bullous diseases (AIBD) is a multistep procedure sequentially applying different assays. In contrast, the BIOCHIP Mosaic technology combines multiple substrates for parallel analysis by indirect immunofluorescence.
Methods: Sera from 749 consecutive, prospectively recruited patients with direct immunofluorescence-positive AIBD from 13 international study centers were analyzed independently and blinded by using (1) a BIOCHIP Mosaic including primate esophagus, salt-split skin, rat bladder, monkey liver, monkey liver with serosa, recombinant BP180 NC16A, and gliadin GAF3X, as well as HEK293 cells expressing recombinant desmoglein 1, desmoglein 3, type VII collagen, and BP230 C-terminus and (2) the conventional multistep approach of the Department of Dermatology, University of Lübeck.

Unlabelled: Introduction & Objectives: Cutaneous and systemic reactions to various metal implants and medical devices have been well documented. The aim of this review was to focus on the probable common mechanisms of allergy and autoimmunity that may lead to similar clinical outcomes following the growing evidence in the literature of metal and nickel-related systemic, autoimmune or autoinflammatory disorders.
Methods: Detailed search of the available electronic databases (PubMed-Medline) was conducted for review of the literature on that topic till the present moment.

Background: The BIOCHIP (Dermatology Mosaic 7; EUROIMMUN, Lubeck, Germany) is a novel multiplex indirect immunofluorescence (IIF) technique used in the serological diagnosis of bullous pemphigoid (BP) and pemphigus.
Objective: To validate the accuracy and inter-rater reliability (IRR) of the BIOCHIP in the diagnosis of BP, pemphigus foliaceus (PF) and pemphigus vulgaris (PV).
Methods: Sera from patients with BP (n = 38), PF (n = 8), PV (n = 23), control patients (n = 64) and healthy control volunteers (n = 39) were tested.

The antioxidant properties of galantamine hydrobromide ((4alpha,6beta)-4a,5,9,10,11,12-hexahydro-3-methoxy-11-methyl-6H-benzofuro[3a,3,2-ef][2]benzazepin-6-ol hydrobromide) were studied in vitro, using luminol-dependent chemiluminescence and spectrophotometry. It was found that this compound was a scavenger of reactive oxygen species (ROS). By comparing the antioxidant effects of galantamine ((4alpha,6beta)-4a,5,9,10,11,12-hexahydro-3-methoxy-11-methyl-6H-benzofuro[3a,3,2-ef][2]benzazepin-6-ol), galantamine hydrobromide, narwedine (4a,5,9,10,11,12-hexahydro-3-methoxy-11-methyl-6H-benzofuro[3a,3,2-ef][2]benzazepin-6-one), and narwedine hydrobromide it was found that the antioxidant activity depended on the enolic OH group in the molecule.

This study was designed to study xanthine oxidase (XO) and xanthine dehydrogenase (XD) activity in the lung of rats exposed to prolonged restraining immobilization stress. Immobilization caused more than twofold increase of xanthine oxidase activity in the rat lung. The activity of xanthine oxidase decreased in lung homogenates incubated at -20 degrees C for 24 h.

The aim of this work was to investigate the possibility for development of peroxidation in the lung of rats injected with endotoxin. The effect of vitamin E supplementation of the rats was also investigated. Vitamin E supplementation by itself did not cause visible differences or any pathological changes in the lung structure of rats as shown by routine histological examinations.
