Introduction: Fractures of the distal femur account for 0.4% of all fractures. They involve about 7% of all femur fractures, with bimodal age distribution, commonly occur during high-velocity trauma of motor vehicle accidents in the younger group of patients and are frequently associated with other skeletal injuries.

Trends of HIV-Related Cancer Mortality between 2001 and 2018: An Observational Analysis.

The burden of AIDS-defining cancers has remained relatively steady for the past two decades, whilst the burden of non-AIDS-defining cancer has increased. Here, we conduct a study to describe mortality trends attributed to HIV-associated cancers in 31 countries. We extracted HIV-related cancer mortality data from 2001 to 2018 from the World Health Organization Mortality Database.

A systematic review of acute telogen effluvium, a harrowing post-COVID-19 manifestation.

This systematic review focuses on the clinical features, physical examination findings, outcomes, and underlying pathology of acute telogen effluvium (TE), a type of diffuse hair loss, occurring in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) recovered patients. MEDLINE/PubMed and Embase databases were queried till October 2021 to identify studies reporting acute TE occurring after COVID-19 recovery. Data were obtained from 19 studies, which included 465 patients who were diagnosed with acute TE.

Management of Steroid-Resistant Nephrotic Syndrome in Children.

Nephrotic syndrome (NS) affects 115-169 children per 100,000, with rates varying by ethnicity and location. Immune dysregulation, systemic circulating substances, or hereditary structural abnormalities of the podocyte are considered to have a role in the etiology of idiopathic NS. Following daily therapy with corticosteroids, more than 85% of children and adolescents (often aged 1 to 12 years) with idiopathic nephrotic syndrome have full proteinuria remission.

Factors associated with mortality among moderate and severe patients with COVID-19 in India: a secondary analysis of a randomised controlled trial.

Objective: Large data on the clinical characteristics and outcome of COVID-19 in the Indian population are scarce. We analysed the factors associated with mortality in a cohort of moderately and severely ill patients with COVID-19 enrolled in a randomised trial on convalescent plasma.

Effect of Hypoproteinemia on Electrolyte Measurement by Direct and Indirect Ion Selective Electrode Methods.

 The aim of this study was to see the effect of hypoproteinemia on electrolyte measurement by two different techniques, that is, direct ion selective electrode (ISE) and indirect ISE.  It was an observational study in which 90 serum samples with normal protein content (Group-1) were subjected to sodium (Na ) and potassium (K ) measurements by direct and indirect ISE methods. In the same way, 90 serum samples with total protein < 5 g/dL (Group-2) were subjected to Na and K measurements by direct and indirect ISE methods.

Negative Impact of Vestibular Suppressant Drugs on Provocative Positional Tests of BPPV: A Study from the Western Part of India.

Aims: To study the impact of vestibular suppressant drugs (VSD) on provocative positional tests (PPT) in patients with benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV).

Settings And Design: A prospective case-control observational study.

Method: This is a retrospective study done at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Institute of Medical Science and Research (SVPIMSR), Smt. NHL MMC, Ahmedabad, from April 1, 2020, to September 30, 2020 All COVID-19-positive patients were divided into two groups: group A was comprised of pregnant/postpartum and group B of non-pregnant patients.

Evaluation of Psychiatric Morbidity in COVID-19-Positive Inpatients Referred to Consultation Liaison Psychiatry in a Tertiary Care Hospital.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has led to the risk of common mental illnesses. Consultation liaison psychiatry has been one of the most requested services in the face of this pandemic. We aimed to assess (a) the prevalence of psychiatric illness, (b) different types of psychiatric diagnoses, (c) presenting complaints, (d) reasons for psychiatric referrals, and (e) psychiatric intervention done on COVID-19 positive inpatients referred to consultation liaison psychiatry at tertiary care hospital.

Bilateral Fracture Neck Femur in Child with Bilateral Delayed Union and Bilateral AVN: A Rare Occurrence and Literature Review.

A bilateral neck of femur fracture in children is a rare occurrence with only twelve cases reported till the date. We report a case of a 3-year-old schoolgirl with bilateral Delbet type 2 fracture neck femur after a fall from height. She was managed elsewhere by bilateral closed reduction and screw fixation within 24 h.

Clinical Features of Mycetoma and the Appropriate Treatment Options.

Mycetoma is a chronic, suppurative and debilitating granulomatous infection seen mainly in tropical and subtropical areas and is now declared as a neglected tropical disease by the World Health Organization. The clinical diagnosis is usually characterized by a classical triad of localized swelling, underlying sinus tracts, and production of grains or granules, but unusual presentations are also seen. It is classified into eumycetoma caused by the fungus, and actinomycetoma caused by the bacteria.

Congenital Pseudarthrosis of Femur and Sciatic Nerve Palsy with Congenital Constriction Band Syndrome: Report of the First Case in Literature.

Congenital constriction band syndrome has varied clinical presentations ranging from small, incomplete skin deep constriction band to in utero amputation. Pseudarthrosis of underlying bone most commonly tibia has been reported by many authors. We report the first case of congenital pseudarthrosis of the femur with congenital constriction band syndrome.

Novel use of intravascular lithotripsy for coral reef aorta: a case report.

Background: The coral reef aorta (CRA) is a rare disease of extreme calcification in the juxtarenal aorta. These heavily calcified exophytic plaques grow into the lumen and can cause significant stenoses, leading to visceral ischaemia, renovascular hypertension, and claudication. Surgery or percutaneous intervention with stenting carries a high risk of complications and mortality.

Symptomatic reinfection with COVID-19: A first from Western India.

The reinfection of recovered COVID-19 patient is one of the major concerns worldwide. Here we report a case of previously recovered patient from Covid-19 who presented with symptomatic reinfection beyond 3 months. We report a case of 58 year old female patient who after presenting with symptomatic episode of RT-PCR confirmed COVID-19 in April 2020, presented with a new symptomatic infection by SARS-CoV-2 four months later.

Tricuspid Atresia Type 1B With Persistent Left Superior Vena Cava in a Four-Month-Old Child: An Unusual Combination.

Tricuspid atresia (TA) is a rare cyanotic congenital heart disease. A persistent left superior vena cava (LSVC) may be associated with TA. The presence of LSVC raises important considerations for eventual repair, in that it may lead to persistent arterial desaturation even after corrective surgery, if associated with an unroofed coronary sinus.

Impact of newer direct-acting antiviral drugs based on quality-adjusted life years: A prospective pharmacoeconomic study in hepatitis C patients.

Context: The Indian government is dispensing newer direct-acting antiviral (DAA) drugs, which may have impact on hepatitis C virus (HCV) patients' quality of life (QoL).

Aims: To evaluate different DAA regimens and impact on QoL in terms of quality-adjusted life year (QALY) in HCV patients and to measure cost-effectiveness.

Methods: This prospective, observational study was carried out on patients who were diagnosed with HCV.

Remodelling in Children's Fractures and Limits of Acceptability.

Remodeling follows inflammatory and reparative phases of bone healing and is very pronounced in children. Unlike adults, in growing children, remodeling can restore the alignment of initially malunited fractures to a certain extent, making anatomic reduction less essential. Remodeling is not universal and ubiquitous.
