Impact of the Fogarty Training Program on Trainee and Institutional Research Capacity Building at a Government Medical College in India.

Background: Strengthening health research is essential to inform public health policies. However, few research training programs have systematically measured their impact on capacity building and most evaluations have been limited to reporting of individual trainee metrics. Hence, we conducted an evaluation of the impact of a five-year training program focused on building both trainee and institutional research capacity at a public medical college in India.

Immunohistochemical expression of cyclin D1 in invasive breast carcinoma and its correlation with clinicopathological parameters.

Introduction: Breast cancer (BC) is the most common cancer and leading cause of death in women.

Aim: This study was conducted to study the cyclin D1 expression in BC and its correlation with other clinicopathological parameters such as tumor size, histological grade, lymph node status, estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR), HER2/neu, and Ki67 status.

Materials And Methods: Fifty cases of BC diagnosed between 2015 and 2018 were included in the study.

Double-blind trial of solid lipid Boswellia serrata particles (SLBSP) vs. standardized Boswellia serrata gum extract (BSE) for osteoarthritis of knee.

Objectives The present study was planned to investigate the efficacy of SLBSP vs. standardized BSE for symptomatic knee osteoarthritis (OA) treatment. Methods It was a prospective, randomized, double-blind, double-dummy, placebo-controlled, and single-centre clinical trial for symptomatic osteoarthritis of knee.

Comparison of visual analogue scale (VAS) and the Nasal Obstruction Symptom Evaluation (NOSE) score in evaluation of post septoplasty patients.

Objective: To compare and correlate the efficacy of the NOSE score & the VAS score in determining the symptomatic benefit in patients undergoing septoplasty.

Materials And Methods: Eighty patients with deviated nasal septum undergoing septoplasty were included in the study. NOSE score & VAS score (out of 100) was documented before and after surgery.

Formulation, optimization, and in vitro evaluation of nanostructured lipid carriers for topical delivery of Apremilast.

This work was aimed to formulate topical Apremilast (APM)-loaded nanostructured lipid carriers (NLCs) for the management of psoriasis. NLCs were prepared by a cold homogenization technique using Compritol 888ATO, oleic acid, Tween 80 and Span 20, and Transcutol P as a solid lipid, liquid lipid, surfactant mixture, and penetration enhancer, respectively. Carbopol 940 was used to convert NLC dispersion into NLC-based hydrogel to improve its viscosity for topical administration.

Percutaneous Tracheostomy in Patients at High Risk of Bleeding Complications: A Retrospective Single-center Experience.

Aims: To study the bleeding complications in patients undergoing percutaneous tracheostomy and who are at high risk of these complications (due to thrombocytopenia, use of anticoagulant or antiplatelet agents, and difficult anatomy).

Materials And Methods: A retrospective study was undertaken, which included all patients undergoing percutaneous tracheostomy in the medical intensive care unit (MICU) of Rashid Hospital, Dubai, over a period of 15 months. Percutaneous tracheostomy was performed by senior medical intensivists using the single-tapered dilator technique under fiber optic bronchoscopic guidance.

Double burden of malnutrition among Indian schoolchildren and its measurement: a cross-sectional study in a single school.

Objective: This cross-sectional study set in a single school on the outskirts of a large city aimed to document the extent of double burden of malnutrition (coexistence of overnutrition and undernutrition) among Indian schoolchildren from lower socioeconomic groups, and to determine if mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC) can be used as a proxy for body mass index (BMI).

Subjects: The total number of participants was 1444, comprising 424 girls and 1020 boys belonging to playgroups and grades 1 to 7.

Measurements: Anthropometric measurements, such as participants' MUAC, height and weight were measured using standard techniques.

Emerging Complexity and the Need for Advanced Drug Delivery in Targeting Candida Species.

Background: Candida species are the important etiologic agents for candidiasis, the most prevalent cause of opportunistic fungal infections. Candida invasion results in mucosal to systemic infections through immune dysfunction and helps in further invasion and proliferation at several sites in the host. The host defence system utilizes a wide array of the cells, proteins and chemical signals that are distributed in blood and tissues which further constitute the innate and adaptive immune system.

Simple mathematical equation to predict distance to gastroesophageal junction through the submucosal tunnel during peroral endoscopic myotomy.

 Accurate estimation of the distance to the gastroesophageal junction (GEJ) through a tunnel during per oral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) is technically challenging. The methods currently employed are often insufficient, and resultant errors may lead to incomplete myotomy and/or prolonged procedure times. Our hypothesis states that the additional distance while traversing the tunnel is directly proportional to the widest esophageal diameter; and is calculated by the formula X = Y + CZ (X = distance to the GEJ through the tunnel, Y = distance to the GEJ through the lumen, Z = widest esophageal diameter, C = arithmetic constant).

Innovative Use of Google Cardboard in Clinical Examination of Patients of Vertigo.

Background: Vertigo is 1 of the most prominent and frequent neurological symptom. It is estimated that about 30% of all people need medical care once in their life due to this index symptom. The neurological expertise required is usually scarce in underprivileged areas.

Headache symptom modification: the relevance of appropriate manual therapy assessment and management of a patient with features of migraine and cervicogenic headache - a case report.

Objectives: People who suffer from headache frequently present with multiple headache forms and the precise diagnosis of the dominant headache form can be challenging. This case report describes a headache symptom modification approach in the diagnosis and management of a patient presenting with combined features of chronic migraine and cervicogenic headache (CGH).

Methods: A 28-year-old female presented with combined features of chronic migraine and CGH diagnosed according to guidelines published by the International Headache Society.

High risk for latent tuberculosis infection among medical residents and nursing students in India.

Defining occupational latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) risk among healthcare workers is needed to support implementation of prevention guidelines. Prospective cohort study of 200 medical residents and nursing students in India was conducted May 2016-December 2017. Tuberculin skin test (TST) and QuantiFERON TB Gold Test-in-tube (QFT-GIT) were performed at study entry and 12 months.

Formulation and evaluation of letrozole-loaded spray dried liposomes with PEs for topical application.

Letrozole (LET), an aromatase inhibitor widely used as a first-line drug for the estrogen-dependent breast cancer treatment in postmenopausal women. In this study, an attempt has been made to develop LET topical drug delivery which would be a more efficient system to treat elevated blood levels of estrogen found in breast cancer patients. The technique involves, encapsulation of the LET in phospholipids using spray dryer.

Acquired diaphragmatic hernia in a preterm low birth weight neonate.

Iatrogenic diaphragmatic hernia is rare in children and we report a preterm low birth weight neonate with a presumably acquired diaphragmatic hernia due to trauma caused by treatment following pneumothorax.

Clinical Efficacy of Tinnitus Retraining Therapy Based on Tinnitus Questionnaire Score and Visual Analogue Scale Score in Patients with Subjective Tinnitus.

Objective: Tinnitus is the annoying sensation of sound perception without acoustic stimulus. Tinnitus retraining therapy (TRT) is the habituation therapy used for the management of chronic subjective tinnitus. The objective of the study is to describe TRT and to evaluate its efficacy in patients with subjective tinnitus.

Nosocomial infections in surgical intensive care unit: A retrospective single-center study.

Aims: This study aims to study the incidence, microbiological and antibiotic sensitivity and resistance profile and impact on intensive care units (ICUs) stay and mortality of nosocomial infections in patients admitted to surgical ICU of our hospital.

Methods: A retrospective analysis of all patients admitted, over the course of 1 year, in the surgical ICU was undertaken. All patients who developed nosocomial infections were included in the study.

The C0-C2 axial rotation test: normal values, intra- and inter-rater reliability and correlation with the flexion rotation test in normal subjects.

Objectives: Impairment in upper cervical spine mobility is associated with cervicogenic headache severity and disability. Measures of such mobility include the flexion-rotation test (FRT), which requires full cervical flexion and may be influenced by lower cervical spine dysfunction. The C0-C2 axial rotation test also evaluates upper cervical mobility but normal values and reliability have not been reported.

In vitro and in vivo evaluation of colon cancer targeted epichlorohydrin crosslinked Portulaca-alginate beads.

The aim of this study was to formulate a novel dual crosslinked hydrogel bead using Portulaca mucilage for colon-targeted delivery of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) and evaluate its safety, specificity and efficacy. The ionotropic gelation technique was employed to prepare the hydrogel beads of Portulaca mucilage. For this, the mucilage was initially crosslinked with alginate and calcium ions.

Background: Levocetirizine, active R (-) enantiomer of cetirizine, is an orally active and selective H1 receptor antagonist used medically as an anti-allergic. Allergic rhinitis is a symptomatic disorder of the nose induced by inflammation mediated by immunoglobulin E (IgE) in the membrane lining the nose after allergen exposure.

Objectives: The purpose of the present study was to prepare rapidly disintegrating tablets of levocetirizine after its complexation with β-cyclodextrin (β-CD).
