The specimens for quasi-static and fatigue testing were machined from previously extruded plates, where two orientations were considered: (i) the extrusion direction (ED) and (ii) the direction perpendicular to extrusion (PED). This study compared the use of cellulose nanofibrils (CNF) and lignocellulose nanofibrils (LCNF) in different concentrations to reinforce the poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) matrix. Both nanofillers significantly improved the elastic modulus and tensile strength of PVA biocomposite films. The optimum concentration of CNF and LCNF was 6% relative to PVA, which improved the tensile strength of the final PVA biocomposite with CNF and LCNF by 53% and 39%, respectively, compared to the neat PVA film.

PNCS (poly-(N-isopropylakrylamide)/chitosan) hydrogel was used as the carrier of silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs), synthesised in an environmentally friendly manner using AgNO and a sumac leaf extract. PNCS hydrogel and Ag NPs were applied to the viscose fabric by either in situ synthesis of Ag NPs on the surface of viscose fibres previously modified with PNCS hydrogel, or by the direct immobilisation of Ag NPs by the dehydration/hydration of the PNCS hydrogel with the nanodispersion of Ag NPs in the sumac leaf extract and subsequent application to the viscose fibres.

Our aim was to evaluate the prognostic value of detectable high-sensitivity cardiac troponin I (hs-cTnI) and ischaemia-modified albumin (IMA) in predicting all-cause death or non-fatal ischaemic events in patients with PAD after endovascular revascularisation of the lower limbs. Patients who underwent successful endovascular revascularisation for chronic limb-threatening ischaemia (CLTI) or disabling intermittent claudication (IC) were prospectively included. Pre-procedural levels of hs-cTnI and IMA were measured, and patients were followed for one year for the occurrence of the composite outcome of all-cause death, non-fatal myocardial infarction, new-onset angina, non-fatal ischaemic stroke, transient ischaemic attack, or progression of PAD.

Abscission is a tightly regulated process in which plants shed unnecessary, infected, damaged, or aging organs, as well as ripe fruits, through predetermined abscission zones in response to developmental, hormonal, and environmental signals. Despite its importance, the underlying mechanisms remain incompletely understood. This study highlights the deleterious effects of abscission on chloroplast ultrastructure in the cells of the tomato flower pedicel abscission zone, revealing spatiotemporal differential gene expression and key transcriptional networks involved in chloroplast vesiculation during abscission.
