In aerobic organisms, cellular respiration is associated with electron transfer through a respiratory system of membrane-bound complexes. This electron flow is terminated by the reduction of dioxygen to water by respiratory oxidases. Cytochrome c oxidase (CcO) is a widely distributed heme-copper-oxygen reductase (HCO) found in all mitochondria and some bacteria.

Drift is a phenomenon that can occur in cognitive-behavioral supervision, where core components of supervision are omitted, avoided, or deprioritized. This narrative review explores the signs, reasons, and impact of supervisory drift at the experiential, cognitive, and emotional levels for both the supervisor and the supervisee. Additionally, the article presents potential solutions for preventing and addressing supervisory drift, such as staying on track, anticipating problems before they arise, adapting supervision to the supervisee's needs, using active supervision methods to understand drift better, engaging in Supervision of Supervision (SoS), and using alliance measures.

Objectives: The anti-infective, predominantly antibacterial protection of the periodontium has been well-mapped in its various inflammatory diseases, especially in different clinical forms of gingivitis and periodontitis. In various inflammatory periodontal diseases, many immunocompetent cells and substances have been identified in periodontal structures, including the gingiva, which implement and ensure this anti-inflammatory response. There is ample evidence that in many clinical forms of gingivitis and periodontitis, these immunological-defensive reactions occur in the gingival tissue.

In this work, the molecular enhancement factors of the P,T-odd interactions involving the electron electric dipole moment (Wd) and the scalar-pseudoscalar nucleon-electron couplings (Ws) are computed for the ground state of the bimetallic molecules YbCu, YbAg, and YbAu. These systems offer a promising avenue for creating cold molecules by associating laser-cooled atoms. The relativistic coupled-cluster approach is used in the calculations, and a thorough uncertainty analysis is performed to give accurate and reliable uncertainties to the obtained values.

Objectives: This study examined (non-)monotonic time trends in psychological and somatic complaints among adolescents, along with gender differences.
Methods: Repeated cross-sectional Health Behaviour in School-aged Children (HBSC) data from 1994 to 2022 covering 15-year-old adolescents from 41 countries (N = 470,797) were analysed. Three polynomial logistic regression models (linear, quadratic, cubic) were tested for best fit, including separate analyses by gender and health complaints dimension.

Indoor positioning based on Wi-Fi signals has gained a lot of attention lately. There are many advantages related to the use of Wi-Fi signals for positioning, including the availability of Wi-Fi access points in indoor environments and the integration of Wi-Fi transceivers into consumer devices. However, since Wi-Fi uses an unlicensed spectrum, anyone can create their own access points.

Global satellite navigation systems (GNSSs) are the most-used technology for the localization of vehicles in the outdoor environment, but in the case of a densely built-up area or during passage through a tunnel, the satellite signal is not available or has poor quality. Inertial navigation systems (INSs) allow localization dead reckoning, but they have an integration error that grows over time. Inexpensive inertial measurement units (IMUs) are subject to thermal-dependent error and must be calibrated almost continuously.

The involvement of the aortic arch in thoracic aortic aneurysms (TAA), or acute aortic dissections (AAD), represents a challenging clinical entity, mandating a meticulous surgical plan, tailored to each individual case. The advent of endovascular techniques and the introduction of modern arch protheses have led to the implementation of the frozen elephant trunk (FET) technique. This one-step hybrid operation consists of a total aortic arch replacement combined with an antegrade delivery of a stent-graft for the descending aorta, which acts as a proximal landing zone facilitating a potential distal endovascular reintervention.

The ongoing sustainable reduction in natural resources is prompting companies to look for materials to reuse that were previously classified as waste. Uses are sought for them either in their existing area of use or in other areas of the economy. In many cases, this is difficult.

High-pressure die casting (HPDC) of aluminum alloys is one of the most efficient manufacturing methods, offering high repeatability and the ability to produce highly complex castings. The cast parts are characterized by good surface quality, high dimensional accuracy, and high tensile strength. Continuous technological advancements are driving the increase in part complexity and quality requirements.

The paper presents the original results of cyclic testing of materials that are identical in chemical composition but produced by two different technologies: conventional metallurgy and additive manufacturing. For the aluminium alloy AlSi10Mg and the austenitic steel 316L, tensile curves, tension-compression and torsion alternating fatigue curves are experimentally obtained and presented. The experimental results are compared for two fabrication technologies-conventional metallurgy and additive DLMS technology.

The incorporation of additive manufactured (AM) metal parts to real assemblies is a crucial issue for the increasing of their industrial utilization. The presented research is devoted to the electron beam welding (EBW) of dissimilar steel joints. Dissimilarity is defined by the various types of steel and manufacturing processes used for the creation of specimens.

An important issue in obtaining a good casting surface without defects in contact with the liquid metal is the use of protective coatings on the surface of the moulding sand forming the mould cavity. Protective coatings are based on highly refractory materials that are finely ground and protect the moulding sand from thermal stresses from the molten metal. An important aspect of obtaining the appropriate properties of the protective coatings used is the method of application.

Work-related stress has been linked to various negative outcomes among healthcare professionals. For nurses, stress can arise from numerous sources, including their interactions with patients. It is often perceived that nurses working in psychiatric hospitals experience greater stress and occupational burnout compared to nurses working in somatic hospitals.

In this review, we focus on the biophysical and structural aspects of the oligomeric states of physiologically intrinsically disordered proteins and peptides tau, amyloid-β and α-synuclein and partly disordered prion protein and their isolations from animal models and human brains. These protein states may be the most toxic agents in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. It was shown that oligomers are important players in the aggregation cascade of these proteins.

The treatment of infections caused by is currently complicated by the increasing number of strains resistant to antimicrobial agents. One promising way to solve this problem is phage therapy. Due to the lack of data on the effectiveness and safety of phage preparations, STAFAL is the only registered phage preparation for the treatment of infectious diseases in the Slovak Republic and the entire European Union.

Stress responses can impact bladder cancer (BC) outcomes via immune-inflammatory pathway modulation. This study explores heart rate variability (HRV) associations with serum immune-inflammatory biomarkers, blood count inflammatory markers, and psychosocial self-report measures in patients versus healthy controls. The TREM-1 and TREM-2 expressions on peripheral blood monocytes were analysed via flow cytometry; serum inflammatory biomarkers by ELISA; HRV (5-min ECG) pre-tumour resection; blood counts by haematology analyser; and psychosocial factors by validated questionnaires.

This study investigates the biosorption capabilities of kefir grains, a polysaccharide-based byproduct of the fermentation process, for removing copper(II) and arsenic(V) from contaminated water. Unlike traditional heavy-metal removal methods, which are typically expensive and involve environmentally harmful chemicals, biopolymeric materials such as kefir grains provide a sustainable and cost-effective alternative for adsorbing hazardous inorganic pollutants from aqueous solutions. Our experimental results revealed significant differences in the sorption capacities of two types of kefir grains.
