Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) show significant promise in treating immune diseases due to their ability to differentiate into various cell types and their immunomodulatory properties. However, the mechanisms by which MSCs regulate CD4T cells, essential for immune responses, are not yet fully understood. This study aims to provide a comprehensive overview of how MSCs and their secreted extracellular vesicles (EVs) modulate CD4T cells in immune diseases.

Seasonality of excessive daytime sleepiness has been proposed, yet no research has specifically investigated its impact on daytime sleepiness and cataplexy in central disorders of hypersomnolence. This study examined seasonal variations in daytime sleepiness and cataplexy in narcolepsy type 1, narcolepsy type 2 and idiopathic hypersomnia. Patients included in the study were on stable pharmacological treatment, and participated in sleep medicine interviews to assess diurnal sleepiness and daytime napping and completed the Epworth Sleepiness Scale to assess excessive daytime sleepiness (Epworth Sleepiness Scale ≥ 10).

Objective: Military Police officers of Rio de Janeiro's State have been considered the most lethal security forces in Brazil, corresponding to 52.35% of deaths in policing actions. The main aim of this study was to identify occupational stress among military police officers in Rio de Janeiro State and its relationship with the psychosocial environment, sleep quality, and daytime sleepiness.

Background: Performing simulated snoring (SS) is a commonly used method to evaluate the source of snoring in obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). SS sounds is considered as a potential biomarker for OSA. SS sounds can be easily recorded, which is a cost-effective method for prescreening purposes.

Methods: This study assessed data from two cohorts of patients with alpha-synucleinopathies (University of Brescia and University of Rome Tor-Vergata cohorts). Consecutive participants with video-polysomnography-confirmed iRBD, Parkinson's disease (PD), dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) and controls underwent neurological, clinical and I-FP-CIT SPECT imaging assessments. Individuals with iRBD were longitudinally monitored to collect clinical phenoconversion to PD or DLB.

Background: The present study explored the serum glutamate (Glu), glutamine (Gln), glutamic acid dehydrogenase (GAD) concentrations and the mRNA expression levels of the N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) NR1 subunit in the peripheral blood of patients with insomnia disorder (ID). To our knowledge, this is the first study showing an increase in the mRNA expression levels of the NMDAR NR1 subunit in patients with ID.
Methods: This study included 30 ID patients and 30 matched healthy controls.

Orexins/hypocretins are neuropeptides produced by the hypothalamic neurons, binding two G-protein coupled receptors (orexin 1 and orexin 2 receptors) and playing a critical role in regulating arousal, wakefulness, and various physiological functions. Given the high prevalence of sleep disturbances in Alzheimer's disease (AD) and their reported involvement in AD pathophysiology, the orexin system is hypothesized to contribute to the disease pathogenesis. Specifically, recent evidence suggests that orexin's influence may extend beyond sleep regulation, potentially affecting amyloid-β and tau pathologies.

Objectives: Nowadays, few studies have examined the relationships between sleep duration and abnormal gut health. In this study, we used data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) to investigate the correlations between habitual sleep duration and abnormal bowel symptoms in adults.
Methods: This study included 11,533 participants aged ≥ 20 years from the NHANES conducted during 2005-2010.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the applicability of visual evoked potentials (VEP) for intraoperative visual pathway monitoring in epilepsy surgery of the posterior hemispheric quadrant (PHQ) and to correlate it with post-operative visual field status.
Methods: VEP monitoring was performed in 16 patients (12 females, 7 children). Flash-induced VEP were recorded with strip electrodes from the banks of the calcarine cortex.

β-amyloid (Aβ) in Alzheimer's disease (AD) and orexin in narcolepsy are considered crucial biomarkers for diagnosis and therapeutic targets. Recently, orexin and Aβ cerebral dynamics have been studied in both pathologies, but how they interact with each other remains further to be known. In this study, we investigated the reliability of using the correlation between orexin-A and Aβ CSF levels as a candidate marker to explain the chain of events leading to narcolepsy or AD pathology.

Hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (HSCC) is a kind of malignant tumor with a poor prognosis and low quality of life in the otolaryngology department. It has been found that microRNA (miRNA) plays an important role in the occurrence and development of various tumors. This study found that the expression level of miRNA-107 (miR-107) in HSCC was significantly reduced.

Purpose: The reciprocal comorbidity of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and body mass index (BMI) has been observed, yet the shared genetic architecture between them remains unclear. This study aimed to explore the genetic overlaps between them.
Methods: Summary statistics were acquired from the genome-wide association studies (GWASs) on OSA (N = 41,704; N = 335,573) and BMI (N = 461,460).

Background: Long coronavirus disease (COVID) after COVID-19 infection is continuously threatening the health of people all over the world. Early prediction of the risk of Long COVID in hospitalized patients will help clinical management of COVID-19, but there is still no reliable and effective prediction model.
Methods: A total of 1905 hospitalized patients with COVID-19 infection were included in this study, and their Long COVID status was followed up 4-8 weeks after discharge.

Study Objectives: The International Classification of Sleep Disorders categorized catathrenia as a respiratory disorder, but there are doubts whether episodes appear during rapid eye movement (REM) sleep or the non-rapid eye movement (NREM), their duration, and symptoms. The main objectives were to identify the most common features and relations of catathrenia.
Methods: PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science were searched according to the PRISMA 2020 guidelines.
