Non-surgical rejuvenation of the periorbital area is becoming increasingly popular given the downtime and risks associated with surgical procedures. Dermabrasion and chemical peels were first used along with neuromodulators and dermal fillers. Over the past few decades, laser treatments have emerged as the gold standard for periorbital skin resurfacing.

Objectives: Acne scarring occurs from skin damage following acne healing. Treatments such as chemical peels, dermabrasion, and laser therapy can effectively enhance scars' appearance but could be expensive. This study aimed to reflect participants' awareness of treatment options and their willingness to pay (WTP), evaluating their association with sociodemographics, severity, and quality of life (QoL).

Facial resurfacing is a fundamental part of rejuvenation but it is often ignored because of the perceived difficulty. Lasers are an option, but they have proved inadequate for difficult rhytids (ie, perioral) both in quality and longevity. Croton oil peels can give excellent results with remarkable permanence.

Background: Early recognition of xeroderma pigmentosum is important to minimize the complications arising from the harmful effects of exposure to ultraviolet radiation. This narrative review aims to familiarize physicians with the clinical features, diagnosis and management of xeroderma pigmentosum.
Methods: A search was conducted in December 2021 in PubMed Clinical Queries using the key term "xeroderma pigmentosum".

The occurrence of non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC) is closely linked with advanced age and ultraviolet-B (UVB) exposure. More specifically, the development of NMSC is linked to diminished insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) signaling from senescent dermal fibroblasts in geriatric skin. Consequently, keratinocyte IGF-1 receptor (IGF-1R) remains inactive, resulting in failure to induce appropriate protective responses including DNA repair and cell cycle checkpoint signaling.

Skin resurfacing techniques allow improvement of skin texture and color. This includes the effacement of wrinkles, signs of photoaging, and the softening of scars. Laser resurfacing, chemical peels, and dermabrasion are associated with overlapping risks of complications.

Complications in facial plastic surgery can occur in both surgical and nonsurgical procedures. Many complications can be prevented through thorough preprocedural evaluation, patient counseling, and close postoperative monitoring. Despite the best efforts complications will happen and identifying them early is critical to prevent long-term sequelae.

Background: Chemical peels are applied to the face and neck to improve rhytides and the photoaged appearance of the skin. Peels can be applied to different skin depths depending on the types of chemicals, the volume of solution, and the amount of pressure or friction applied. If a peel is applied too superficially, rhytides will not be removed.

Background And Objectives: Actinic keratoses (AK) are common pre-cancerous lesions, which are associated with ultraviolet light exposure and aging. Wounding therapies such as fractionated laser resurfacing (FLR) have been previously demonstrated to effectively treat facial AK. However, the effectiveness of FLR on other sites commonly afflicted with AK has not been studied in detail.

Non-melanoma skin cancer primarily affects geriatric patients as evidenced by the fact that only 20% of these cancers are diagnosed in patients under the age of 60 years. Of importance, geriatric skin responds to procarcinogenic ultraviolet B radiation (UVB) in a manner that permits the establishment of tumor cells. Recent studies have indicated that wounding of geriatric skin with fractionated resurfacing lasers and dermabrasion upregulates fibroblast production of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) and normalizes the procarcinogenic acute UVB response consisting of basal keratinocytes proliferating while still harboring unrepaired DNA damage.

Background: In recent literature, different approaches have been proposed to improve the long-lasting treatment of age-related alterations on the human face with decreased invasiveness and side effects such as scar tissue. Voltaic arc dermabrasion is a minimally painful procedure that does not create discomfort to the patient and requires no anaesthesia.
Aims: The aim of this investigation was to evaluate the voltaic arc technique for the treatment of skin wrinkles in the periauricular area.

This article discusses the various nonsurgical treatments that can be performed in combination with facelift surgery to provide patients with a more complete facial rejuvenation. Nonsurgical adjuncts focus on facial volume enhancement, skin resurfacing, intense pulsed light for pigmentary changes, neuromodulators, and skin care in addition to the surgical techniques used to combat facial aging. Several options exist for skin resurfacing, including dermabrasion, chemical peels, and lasers; the advantages and limitations of each are discussed.

Chemical peels, laser resurfacing, and dermabrasion all offer unique options for skin resurfacing for rhytids and dyschromias. Laser resurfacing has developed over the previous decades, but it is the chemical peel against which all modern forms of skin resurfacing are measured. Phenol-croton oil peels have been modernized and depend on croton oil concentration to minimize risks.

Scar revision is of premier importance to the dermatologic surgeon. Some of the least invasive modalities include use of silicone gel sheets, resurfacing with electrosurgical instruments, dermabrasion, chemical peels, and subcision. Laser technology also has been implemented to selectively target and ablate fibrous scar tissue via selective thermolysis.

Background: Currently, the standard protocol regarding the performance of procedures on patients receiving or having recently received isotretinoin (13--retinoic acid) states that the procedures should not be performed. The recommendations in standard books and drug insert require discontinuation of isotretinoin for 6 months before performing cosmetic procedures, including waxing, dermabrasion, chemical peels, laser procedures, or incisional and excisional cold-steel surgery. These recommendations have been followed for over two decades despite little evidence for the stated increased risk of scarring.
