Nonmelanoma skin cancer (NMSC) presents a significant challenge to global healthcare due to its rising incidence, prompting the search for innovative treatments to overcome the limitations of current therapies. Our study aims to explore the potential effects of the liquid blood concentrate platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) on basal cell carcinoma cells (BCCs) and squamous cell carcinoma cells (SCCs) in order to obtain results that may lead to new possible adjunctive therapies for managing localized skin cancers, particularly NMSC. Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) cells and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) cells were indirectly treated with PRF generated via different relative centrifugation forces, namely high and low RCF PRF, for 7 days.

Although advances in free flap surgery have allowed the reconstruction of a wide range of complex scalp defects, simpler local options continue to play a role. We describe how bipedicled or 'bucket handle' scalp flap with skin grafting of the donor site can be used to resurface large scalp defects of up to 15 cm x 20 cm. This retrospective case series of 11 patients describes flap outcomes, post-operative complications, pathology and patient-related outcomes collected via a questionnaire.

Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) poses diagnostic challenges due to its clinical overlap with various skin conditions and neoplasms, potentially leading to misdiagnoses. The absence of a definitive diagnostic test and infrequent use of histopathology contribute to diagnostic complexities, exacerbated by the recent increased focus on HS. Three cases initially diagnosed and treated as HS underwent clinical work-up and skin biopsies to resolve diagnostic complexities.

Introduction: Skin malignancy is one of the most common reasons for seeking out a plastic surgery clinic. This article presents an overview of the therapeutic results at Department of Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery Brno and includes an algorithm according to which we proceed in the treatment of patients with skin malignancy.
Material And Methods: Retrospective analysis of data for the year 2022, including a set of 791 patients with a total of 1,117 procedures to remove skin malignancy.

In vitro alternative therapy of human epidermoid squamous carcinoma (A431) by superparamagnetic hyperthermia (SPMHT) using FeO (magnetite) superparamagnetic nanoparticles (SPIONs) with an average diameter of 15.8 nm, bioconjugated with hydroxypropyl gamma-cyclodextrins (HP-γ-CDs) by means of polyacrylic acid (PAA) biopolymer, is presented in this paper. The therapy was carried out at a temperature of 43 °C for 30 min using the concentrations of FeO ferrimagnetic nanoparticles from nanobioconjugates of 1, 5, and 10 mg/mL nanoparticles in cell suspension, which were previously found by us to be non-toxic for healthy cells (cell viabilities close to 100%), according to ISO standards (cell viability must be greater than 70%).

Correlative imaging of cutaneous tumors provides additional information to the standard histopathologic examination. However, the joint progress in the establishment of analytical techniques, such as Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) and Laser Ablation Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) in clinical practice is still limited. Their combination provides complementary information as it is also shown in our study in terms of major biotic (Ca, Mg, and P) and trace (Cu and Zn) elements.

Background: Immunosuppressive therapy is essential for to prevent graft rejection in renal transplant patients; however, it is associated with elevating the risk of several pathologies in these patients particularly infectious and neoplastic conditions. In this study, we explore the diagnosis and treatment of skin lesions in renal transplant patients.
Methods: A retrospective chart review of 12 renal transplant recipients referred to plastic and reconstructive surgery with skin lesions from 2000 to 2020 was performed.

Chronic skin defects in the head, face and neck pose challenges for closure, especially after multiple surgeries or radiation therapy. We report the case of a woman in her 70s with a chronic occipital wound following squamous cell carcinoma resections, resulting in exposed skull bone. Despite various options, we successfully treated the 4 cm x 5 cm wound with a Kerecis fish skin graft (FSG), observing significant improvement within a week.

Background: Early cutaneous squamous cell carcinomas (cSCCs) generally show epithelial differentiation features and good prognosis, whereas advanced cSCCs present mesenchymal traits associated with tumor relapse, metastasis, and poor survival. Currently, the mechanisms involved in cSCC progression are unclear, and the established markers are suboptimal for accurately predicting the clinical course of the disease.
Methods: Using a mouse model of cSCC progression, expression microarray analysis, immunofluorescence and flow cytometry assays, we have identified a prognostic biomarker of tumor relapse, which has been evaluated in a cohort of cSCC patient samples.

Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) is a common and increasingly prevalent form of skin cancer, posing significant health challenges. Understanding the molecular mechanisms involved in cSCC progression is crucial for developing effective treatments. The primary aim of this research was to evaluate the activation of NOTCH1 and FGFR2 oncogenes in inducing skin cancer in FVB/N mice through a stepwise chemical process.

Introduction: Cancers around the eye are often treated using orthovoltage machines or by plastic surgery, neither of which are widely available in regional Australia. External beam radiation therapy (EBRT) using electrons and an internal eye shield is an alternative, relatively underreported technique which can provide similar cosmetic and functional outcomes. This report aimed to describe the process for the use of internal eye shields at GenesisCare Fraser Coast Radiation Oncology (GCFCRO) and the associated clinical outcomes and patient perceptions of the delivery and results of this procedure.
