Updated appropriate use criteria for amyloid and tau PET: A report from the Alzheimer's Association and Society for Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging Workgroup.

Introduction: The Alzheimer's Association and the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging convened a multidisciplinary workgroup to update appropriate use criteria (AUC) for amyloid positron emission tomography (PET) and to develop AUC for tau PET.

Methods: The workgroup identified key research questions that guided a systematic literature review on clinical amyloid/tau PET. Building on this review, the workgroup developed 17 clinical scenarios in which amyloid or tau PET may be considered.

What are the important risk factors for excessive daytime sleepiness in a population-based cohort?

Excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) is a common complaint in the general population and is associated with cardiovascular disease and increased mortality. We aimed to investigate whether sleep duration is related to excessive daytime sleepiness in the general population, both in itself and in combination with other factors. We performed a cross-sectional analysis in the population-based Swedish CArdioPulmonary bioImage Study (SCAPIS) cohort (n = 27,976; 14,436 females; aged 50-64 years) to assess how sleep-related factors along with anthropometric, lifestyle, socioeconomic factors as well as somatic disease and psychological distress, were related with EDS assessed by the Epworth sleepiness scale (ESS).

Outcome of follow-up computed tomography of suspected occult scaphoid fracture after normal radiography.

Purpose: To evaluate the rate of missed scaphoid fractures on follow-up computed tomography (CT) for suspected occult scaphoid fracture after normal radiography with residual radial-sided wrist pain.

Methods: In a retrospective analysis, wrist CT during a five-year period was analyzed. The CT examinations and radiological reports were re-evaluated.

Clarification and Modification of the International Contact Dermatitis Research Group Classification of Patch Test Reactions on Behalf of the International Contact Dermatitis Research Group.

The first ICDRG (International Contact Dermatitis Research Group) classification of patch test reactions was published in 1970. With this classification, many weak reactions were classified as allergic reactions. A second classification was therefore implemented one decade later on behalf of the ICDRG and the North American Contact Dermatitis Group.

Utility of Simultaneous Left Atrial Strain-Volume Relationship During Passive Leg Lift to Identify Elevated Left Ventricular Filling Pressure-A Proof-of-Concept Study.

: The assessment of left ventricular (LV) filling pressure in heart failure (HF) poses a diagnostic challenge, as HF patients may have normal LV filling pressures at rest but often display elevated LV filling pressures during exercise. Rapid preload increase during passive leg lift (PLL) may unmask HF in such challenging scenarios. We explored the dynamic interplay between simultaneous left atrial (LA) function and volume using LA strain/volume loops during rest and PLL and compared its diagnostic performance with conventional echocardiographic surrogates to detect elevated LV filling pressure.

Overlapping Systemic Proteins in COVID-19 and Lung Fibrosis Associated with Tissue Remodeling and Inflammation.

A novel patient group with chronic pulmonary fibrosis is emerging post COVID-19. To identify patients at risk of developing post-COVID-19 lung fibrosis, we here aimed to identify systemic proteins that overlap with fibrotic markers identified in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and may predict COVID-19-induced lung fibrosis. Ninety-two proteins were measured in plasma samples from hospitalized patients with moderate and severe COVID-19 in Sweden, before the introduction of the vaccination program, as well as from healthy individuals.

Endometrial Intraepithelial Neoplasia, Concurrent Endometrial Cancer and Risk for Pelvic Sentinel Node Metastases.

Background/objectives: Given the risk of a progression, or an undiagnosed endometrial cancer (EC), the treatment of choice is hysterectomy in women with endometrial intraepithelial neoplasia (EIN). The risk of metastatic disease and whether sentinel node (SLN) biopsy should be performed remains unclear. The primary aim of this prospective study was to determine the overall incidence of concurrent EC and the impact of the diagnostic tool used and the type of endometrial lesion.

Background: The success of selecting high risk or early-stage Alzheimer's disease individuals for the delivery of clinical trials depends on the design and the appropriate recruitment of participants. Polygenic risk scores (PRS) show potential for identifying individuals at risk for Alzheimer's disease (AD). Our study comprehensively examines AD PRS utility using various methods and models.

Healthcare Professionals' Ratings and Views of Person-Centred Care in the Context of Allogeneic Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation.

Introduction: Allogeneic stem cell transplantation (allo-HCT) involves a long trajectory with high risk of complications. In person-centred care (PCC), patients' needs, resources and the care relationship are central to the care process. Healthcare professionals' (HCPs) ratings of PCC have not previously been investigated in this context.

Prolonged SARS-CoV-2 Viremia in an Immunocompromised Patient.

Immunocompromised patients, especially those receiving B-cell depleting therapies, are at risk for developing atypical presentation with regard to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection, with the potential for diagnostic delay and adverse outcomes if such delay occurs. A 66-year-old female with history of granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) with previous pulmonary involvement, treated with rituximab and low-dose prednisolone, presented with prolonged fever and cough after having been treated at home for a mild SARS-CoV-2 infection in early July 2023. The patient had a prolonged course over several months with constitutional symptoms such as fever, cough and malaise.

An online national quality assessment survey of prostate MRI reading: interreader variability in prostate volume measurement and PI-RADS classification.

Background: High-quality assessment of prostate MRI is fundamental in both clinical practice and screening. There is a lack of national level data on variability in prostate volume measurement and PI-RADS assessment. Methods of quality assurance need to be developed.

Characterisation of heritable TP53-related cancer syndrome in Sweden-a nationwide study of genotype-phenotype correlations in 90 families.

We aimed to describe the clinical characteristics of families with heritable TP53-related cancer (hTP53rc) syndrome in Sweden with class 4 and 5 germline TP53 variants (gTP53), and to evaluate the genotype-phenotype correlation. These results were also used to evaluate our previously published phenotype prediction model based on TP53 missense variants and their impact on protein conformation. 90 families with hTP53rc were initially identified in Sweden.

Associations between structural brain changes and blood neurofilament light chain protein in treatment-resistant schizophrenia.

Objective: Around 30% of people with schizophrenia are refractory to antipsychotic treatment (treatment-resistant schizophrenia). Abnormal structural neuroimaging findings, in particular volume and thickness reductions, are often described in schizophrenia. Novel biomarkers of active brain pathology such as neurofilament light chain protein are now expected to improve current understanding of psychiatric disorders, including schizophrenia.

Prediction of survival after pancreatoduodenectomy for distal cholangiocarcinoma: independent external validation of a prognostic model for 3-year overall survival in Sweden.

Objectives: The only treatment with curative potential for distal cholangiocarcinoma (dCCA) is radical surgery which can be complemented with adjuvant chemotherapy. The aim of the present study was to perform an independent external validation of a prognostic model for 3-year overall survival based on routine clinicopathological variables for patients treated with pancreatoduodenectomy for dCCA.

Materials And Methods: All patients with a histopathological confirmed dCCA that underwent pancreatoduodenectomy in Sweden from 2009 through 2019 were identified in the Swedish National Registry for Pancreatic and Periampullary Cancer.

Tertiary lymphoid structures in high-grade serous tubo-ovarian carcinoma: anatomical site matters.

Tertiary lymphoid structures (TLS) in the tumor microenvironment are prognostically beneficial in many solid cancer types. Reports on TLS in high-grade serous tubo-ovarian carcinoma (HGSC) are few, and the prognostic impact is unclear. We investigated mature TLS (mTLS), immature TLS (iTLS) and lymphoid aggregates (LA) in primary adnexal tumors (PTs) and synchronous omental/peritoneal metastases (pMets) of HGSC.

Histopathological Diagnostic Discordance between Punch Biopsies and Final Diagnostic Excisions of Cutaneous Squamous Cell Carcinoma: Analysis of 737 Cases.

The recommended treatment for cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma is surgical excision. An initial punch biopsy is often performed as an aid to diagnosis. A retrospective registry-based study was performed to assess histopathological concordance of punch biopsy of cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma and subsequent excision.

Unveiling Psychedelics: One of the Most Meaningful Events in Life Associated with Improved Well-Being in Swedish Users.

In the midst of growing research and societal discourse on psychedelic substances, a consistent finding is reported: A majority of users report profound personal meaning from their experiences. This pioneering study in Sweden, a nation renowned for its strict drug policies, sought to quantify the extent of reported meaningfulness among Swedish psychedelic users. Results revealed that a majority of the sample, 58%, ranked their psychedelic experience among the top 5 most meaningful events in their lives, while 85% among the top 10.

Semi-standardized evaluation of extraprostatic extension and seminal vesicle invasion with [F]PSMA-1007 PET/CT: a comparison to MRI using histopathology as reference.

Background: Positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) with prostate specific membrane antigen ligands (PSMA) is established for use in primary staging of prostate cancer to screen for metastases. It has also shown promise in local tumor staging, including detection of extraprostatic extension (EPE) and seminal vesicle invasion (SVI). Previous studies have shown high heterogeneity in methods and results.

International multicenter validation of AI-driven ultrasound detection of ovarian cancer.

Ovarian lesions are common and often incidentally detected. A critical shortage of expert ultrasound examiners has raised concerns of unnecessary interventions and delayed cancer diagnoses. Deep learning has shown promising results in the detection of ovarian cancer in ultrasound images; however, external validation is lacking.

The impact of common and rare genetic variants on bradyarrhythmia development.

To broaden our understanding of bradyarrhythmias and conduction disease, we performed common variant genome-wide association analyses in up to 1.3 million individuals and rare variant burden testing in 460,000 individuals for sinus node dysfunction (SND), distal conduction disease (DCD) and pacemaker (PM) implantation. We identified 13, 31 and 21 common variant loci for SND, DCD and PM, respectively.

In situ Laser Fenestrations of Visceral Endografts (InLoVE) Midterm Outcomes From a Multicentre Study.

Objective: Emergent complex abdominal aortic diseases are challenging to treat. During in situ laser fenestration (ISLF), aortic branches are covered and flow is restored with in situ fenestration of the stent graft, with promising midterm results. This study aimed to expand on the limited body of knowledge of midterm outcomes of ISLF in renovisceral aortic pathology in a multicentre setting.

Mortality in ischaemic stroke patients without standard modifiable risk factors: An analysis of the Riksstroke registry.

Introduction: Little is known of the long-term prognosis of patients with acute ischaemic stroke in the absence of standard modifiable stroke risk factors (SMoRFs). In acute coronary syndromes, patients without modifiable risk factors have a higher mortality rate. We analysed data from the Swedish Stroke Register to determine survival of patients without SMoRFs following an ischaemic stroke.
