Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the efficacy of vasoactive inotrope score at the 24th postoperative hour for mortality and morbidity in elective adult cardiac surgery.
Methods: Consecutive patients who underwent elective adult coronary artery bypass and valve surgery in a single tertiary center for cardiac surgery between December 2021 and March 2022 were prospectively included. The vasoactive inotrope score was calculated with the dosage of inotropes that were continuing at the 24th postoperative hour.

Objective: Cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a widely accepted reference imaging technique in routine cardiology clinics in many centers due to its advantages in providing preferable functional, morphologic information. However, there is little information about national experience in clinical application and findings of cardiovascular MRI. The objective of this study was to demonstrate the clinical and demographic characteristics of patients admitted to our cardiac imaging department.

Background: The use of a venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) in the postcardiotomy shock setting (PC-ECMO) can be life-saving. Risk stratification for patients under PC-ECMO is currently challenging. The aim of this study was to assess the discriminatory ability of the different available risk scores for mortality in PC-ECMO patients.

Objective: Despite improvements in the technology of catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation (AF), recurrences are still a major problem, even after a successful procedure. The uric acid/albumin ratio (UAR), which is an inexpensive and simple laboratory parameter, has recently been introduced in the literature as a predictor of adverse cardiovascular events. Hence, we aimed to investigate the relationship between the UAR and AF recurrence after catheter ablation.

Objective: Surgery on the ascending aorta incurs greater risk than other cardiac procedures. The primary aim of this study is to identify pre-operative and operative risk factors that play a role in extended length of stay (LOS) after elective surgery for ascending aortic aneurysms. The secondary aim is to determine post-operative outcomes associated with extended LOS.

Background: Premature ventricular contraction (PVC) is a frequent kind of arrhythmia that affects around 1% of the general population. While PVC most frequently impairs ventricular function in structurally normal heart, retrograde ventriculo-atrial conduction can occur in people with PVC. These retrograde atrial activations may mimic pulmonary vein-derived atrial ectopies.

Treadmill Exercise Test (TET) results and patients' clinical symptoms influence cardiologists' decision to perform Coronary Angiography (CAG) which is an invasive procedure. Since TET has high false positive rates, it can cause an unnecessary invasive CAG. Our primary objective was to develop a machine learning model capable of optimizing TET performance based on electrocardiography (ECG) waves characteristics and signals.

Background: This study aimed to evaluate the need and the indication of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) in patients diagnosed with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) followed up in the pediatric intensive care unit by the demographic, clinical, and laboratory data and treatment response.
Methods: A total of 79 patients (43 males, 36 females; median age: 138 months; range, 6 to 210 months) with COVID-19 and MIS-C followed up between September 2020 - September 2021 were included in this retrospective study. Demographic and clinical data were retrospectively collected from patient files, and clinical data, laboratory findings, chest X-rays, and echocardiography results of six patients (1 male and 5 female, median age: 159 months, range, 13 to 210 months) who needed ECMO due to poor response to medical treatment were recorded before and after the ECMO therapy.

Background: In this study, we aimed to investigate the prognostic value of the tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion (TAPSE)/ pulmonary arterial systolic pressure (PASP) ratio in right ventricular failure patients undergoing left ventricular assist device implantation.
Methods: Between February 2013 and February 2020, a total of 75 heart failure patients (65 males, 10 females; median age: 54 years; range, 21 to 66 years) were retrospectively analyzed. The prognostic value of TAPSE/PASP ratio was assessed using the multivariate Cox regression models and confirmed using the Kaplan-Meier analyses.

Introduction: Infective endocarditis is a disease that progresses with morbidity and mortality, afecting 3-10 out of 100,000 people per year. We conducted this study to review the early outcomes of surgical treatment of infective endocarditis.
Methods: In this retrospective study, 122 patients who underwent cardiac surgery for infective endocarditis in our clinic between November 2009 and December 2020 were evaluated.

Objective: Acute myocarditis mimics acute coronary syndrome due to its clinical course and presentation. This study aimed to evaluate left ventricular longitudinal and circumferential functions during the acute phase and late phase of acute myocarditis with preserved left ventricular ejection fraction using 2-dimensional speckle tracking echocardiography.
Methods: Forty-one consecutive acute myocarditis patients with preserved left ventricular ejection fraction confirmed by cardiac magnetic resonance imaging underwent 2-dimensional speckle tracking echocardiography within the first week of hospital admission.

Stent under-expansion is a predictor of restenosis and stent thrombosis. It remains uncertain whether enhanced stent imaging (ESI) (CLEARstent) guidance can improve stent under-expansion. Our aim was to assess the effect of using ESI on stent under-expansion, after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in a single center, cross-sectional observational study.

Objective: Discontinuation of metformin treatment is a frequently used approach in clinical practice in diabetic ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction patients using metformin in order to reduce the risk of contrast-induced acute kidney injury. There is insufficient evidence in the literature to support this approach. The aim of this study is to determine whether the risk of contrast-induced acute kidney injury is different in diabetic ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction patients using metformin compared to those not taking metformin.

Background: The coexistence of a right-sided aortic arch (RAA), an aberrant left subclavian artery (ALSA), and a patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) is a rarely seen vascular ring anomaly. There is currently no general guideline consensus on the management and follow-up of this congenital defect, posing a challenge to the clinicians. At this point, the heart team plays a critical role in the management of the disease.
