Research has shown that individuals with psychiatric disorders such as bipolar disorder (BD) and attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) have a higher likelihood of violent behavior. This study investigated the frequency of comorbid BD and ADHD in adultpatients and the relationship between this comorbidity and violent behavior. We assessed 105 remitted patients diagnosed with BD I (n = 91) or BD II (n = 14).

The use of deep learning (DL) techniques for automated diagnosis of large vessel occlusion (LVO) and collateral scoring on computed tomography angiography (CTA) is gaining attention. In this study, a state-of-the-art self-configuring object detection network called nnDetection was used to detect LVO and assess collateralization on CTA scans using a multi-task 3D object detection approach. The model was trained on single-phase CTA scans of 2425 patients at five centers, and its performance was evaluated on an external test set of 345 patients from another center.

Background: We aimed to determine the number of cystic fibrosis (CF) patients recorded in the Cystic Fibrosis Registry of Türkiye (CFRT) who were in need of lung transplantation (LT) referral and examine clinical differences between patients who were LT candidates due to rapid forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV₁) decline and LT candidates without rapid FEV₁ decline in the last year to identify a preventable cause in patients with such rapid FEV₁ decline.

Methods: All CF patients recorded in the CFRT in 2018 were evaluated in terms of LT. Patients were divided into those with FEV₁ below 50% and in need of LT due to a decrease of 20% or more in the previous year (Group 1) and those who did not have FEV₁ decline of more than 20% in the previous year but had other indications for LT (Group 2).

Article Synopsis
  • * Patients were divided into two groups based on MLN size (<1.05 cm and ≥1.05 cm), finding that those with larger MLNs had worse postoperative outcomes, including longer hospital stays and increased need for blood transfusions.
  • * The research concluded that an MLN size greater than 1.05 cm is associated with poorer survival rates and may serve as a better prognostic indicator than the number of MLNs in stage III CRC patients.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to assess how the size of the largest metastatic lymph node (MLN) affects postoperative outcomes in patients with stage II-III gastric cancer who had curative surgery.
  • - Results showed that larger MLN sizes were linked to longer hospital stays and worse survival outcomes, with a critical cut-off point of 1.05 cm for predicting mortality.
  • - While a larger MLN size indicated poorer survival, it did not significantly influence the occurrence of major complications following surgery, suggesting the need for further research to clarify these findings.

Objective: The HEARTS3 score is used to predict acute coronary syndrome by evaluating the findings of chest pain patients at the end of the second hour. Additionally, the American College of Cardiology (ACC)/American Heart Association (AHA) 2014 non-ST elevation acute coronary syndrome (NSTE-ACS) management guideline suggests assessing cardiac troponin levels at the third and sixth hours as a class 1A recommendation. This study aimed to explore the value of the HEARTS3 score for the evaluation of patients with chest pain and its utility for determining whether a patient is eligible for early discharge from the emergency department.

Background: We aim to compare the diameters of ascending aorta in COVID-19 patients and COVID-19-free individuals referred to our pandemic hospital.

Methods: The medical records and thorax tomographies of patients admitted to the "pandemic central" state hospital with symptoms of COVID-19 were observed between April 2020 and May 2020 in this case-control study. The first group consisted of patients diagnosed with COVID-19, and the second group consisted of patients without the disease.

Aims: The aim of our study was to investigate the persistent left superior vena cava (PLSVC) cases diagnosed in the prenatal period in our clinic and to compare the obstetric and genetic outcomes of isolated PLSVC cases with cases accompanied by other cardiac or extracardiac anomalies.

Methods: The cases diagnosed as PLSVC between January 2015 and January 2019 in our perinatology clinic were evaluated retrospectively. Patients were divided into two subgroups as isolated PLSVC and PLSVC accompanied by another anomaly.

Background: Cystic fibrosis (CF) registries play an essential role in improving disease outcomes of people with CF. This study aimed to evaluate the association of newly established CF registry system in Turkey on follow-up, clinical, growth, treatment, and complications of people with this disease.

Methods: Age at diagnosis, current age, sex, z-scores of weight, height and body mass index (BMI), neonatal screening results, pulmonary function tests, history of meconium ileus, medications, presence of microorganisms, and follow-up were evaluated and compared to data of people with CF represented in both 2017 and 2019 registry data.

The advancing edge profile is a powerful determinant of tumor behavior in many organs. In this study, a grading system assessing the tumor-host interface was developed and tested in 181 pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (PanNETs), 63 of which were <=2 cm. Three tumor slides representative of the spectrum (least, medium, and most) of invasiveness at the advancing edge of the tumor were selected, and then each slide was scored as follows.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the myocardial performance index (MPI) of the right side of the fetal heart in pregnancies affected by pregestational and gestational diabetes compared to non-diabetic pregnancies.
  • Significant findings include longer isovolumetric contraction and relaxation times, as well as shorter ejection times in the diabetic group, leading to a higher MPI.
  • The results suggest that gestational diabetes can lead to fetal cardiomyopathy and diastolic dysfunction, highlighting the importance of monitoring fetal heart performance in diabetic pregnancies.
