Background: Spina bifida occulta (SBO) is generally known as a benign isolated entity; however, there are ambiguous approaches for neuroaxial screening in cases of symptomatic SBO among institutions. This study aims to demonstrate the infrequency of cranial anomalies associated with symptomatic SBO and inquire the necessity of cranial radiological surveillance in those patients.
Methods: Between 2012 and 2016 pediatric patients who were surgically treated in our clinic due to symptomatic SBO were retrospectively evaluated.

The interpretation of thyroid function tests should be cautiously made during the perimenopause and postmenopause period bearing in mind that physiologic changes do exist in this group of women in terms of secretion and metabolism of thyrotropin and thyroid hormones. Moreover the incidence of thyroid disorders increases in postmenopausal and elderly women. There is no consensus for screening postmenopausal women even though there is well-known evidence about the effect of thyroid status on cognitive function, cardiovascular risk, bone turnover, and longevity.

Objective: Although an International Workshop has suggested that cardiovascular assessment in asymptomatic primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) patients is not necessary, improvements in risk factors of subclinical atherosclerosis have been shown following parathyroidectomy. The objectives of this study were to determine whether parathyroidectomy in asymptomatic PHPT patients causes any change in carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT), arterial stiffness [pulse wave velocity (PWV)] and soluble CD40 ligand (sCD40L) levels.
Design: Prospective study evaluating female patients diagnosed with asymptomatic PHPT in a single centre over a 6-month period.

Squamous cell carcinoma of the lung usually presents as a local rather than a metastatic disease. We present a 55-year-old male who was referred to the orthopedics and traumatology clinic for evaluation of pain and discomfort around the left ankle 2 months after diagnosis of locally advanced non-small cell (squamous cell) lung cancer. Physical examination revealed nonspecific pain and tenderness around the ankle.

Background: Knee flexion contracture in children with cerebral palsy (CP) is very common and functional impairment leads to a crouch gait. Correction of the knee flexion contracture and improvement of the gait pattern by supracondylar femoral extension osteotomy seems to be a more effective method than distal hamstring procedures in long-standing severe crouch. Only a small number of publications reported the neurological complications of this surgical technique.
