Intraoperative Use of Analgesics in Tonsillar Fossa and Postoperative Evaluation with Visual analogue Scale Scores-A Prospective, Randomized, Placebo-Controlled, Double-Blind Clinical Trial.

 Posttonsillectomy pain results in significant morbidity to the patients. There is a disagreement in the literature regarding the use of local anesthetics during tonsillectomy. The aim of this placebo-controlled, double-blind study is to evaluate the effect of peritonsillar administration of local anesthetics.

Vitamin D and bone metabolism in breast cancer patients in Karachi, Pakistan.

Breast cancer is one of the common types of malignancy worldwide and in Pakistan. The heterogeneous disease itself and its complex treatment leads to various bone-affecting complications that make breast cancer patients more vulnerable to bone fractures. Vitamin D deficiency among these women worsens the condition and promotes breast cancer growth.

Diagnostic accuracy of hematological parameters in Acute mesenteric ischemia-A systematic review.

Background: We conducted a systematic review on the diagnostic accuracy of classical and newly reported hematological parameters which are easily available in a resource limited setting in making a diagnosis of Acute Mesenteric Ischemia (AMI).

Methods: We searched the PubMed, Scopus, and Cochrane library from January 1940 to April 2018. The search was limited to studies published in English and those involving human subjects only.

Serum anti mullerian hormone and renalase levels in predicting the risk of preeclampsia.

Objective: The aim of the study was to explore the association of serum AMH and Renalase with the risk of preeclampsia thereby assessing them as screening tools, reducing the risk of gravid consequences of preeclampsia.

Materials And Methods: This cross-sectional study recruited n = 95 pregnant women between 14 and 32 gestational weeks. They were categorized as a) women with gestational hypertension (n = 45); b) women with pre-eclampsia (n = 20) and c) normotensive pregnant women (n = 30) according to the ACOG criteria.

Carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) is one of the chemicals used in industry reported to accelerate the risk of liver diseases in workers especially in developing countries, if it is not handled carefully. Therefore, the present study conducted to evaluate the liver protective and oxidative stress reducing activities of methanolic (MFEt) and aqueous methanolic fruits (AqMFEt) extracts of Withania coagulans against CCl4-induced liver damage in rats. These fruits extracts in oral doses of 800 mg/kg were found effective in their respective test groups in decreasing weight loss, maintaining hepatic membrane integrity, biosynthetic and conjugative abilities by improving liver and bile duct specific enzymes (alanine and aspartate transferases, alkaline phosphatase, γ-glutamyltranstransferase), total protein and bilirubin profiles, uric acid levels plus uplifting the efficacy of hepatic antioxidant enzymes and protein by minimizing lipid peroxidation.

Introduction: Soluble tumor necrosis factor-like weak inducer of apoptosis (sTWEAK) is linked to endothelial dysfunction; a key factor in pre-eclamptic pathogenesis. This study aimed to compare sTWEAK levels during pregnancy to assess for its prognostic ability.

Relationship of Tumor Thickness with Neck Node Metastasis in Buccal Squamous Cell Carcinoma: An Experience at a Tertiary Care Hospital.

 Squamous cell carcinoma is the most common malignancy of the head and neck, with the buccal mucosa being the most common site involved. Early locoregional metastasis is a hallmark of this disease, and early stage tumors may harbor metastatic nodes that are occult. Certain parameters can help identify high-risk patients for whom the pattern of occult nodal metastasis can be predicted.
