Department of Clinical Laboratory, Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine, Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China; Key Laboratory of Precision Medicine in Diagnosis and Monitoring Research of Zhejiang Province, Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China. Electronic address:

Background: Hepatic immune tolerance might contribute to the development of therapeutic resistance to immunotherapy. However, addressing this issue is challenging since the efficacy of immunotherapy in the context of liver metastasis (LM) remains poorly studied. Here, we aimed to establish an LM common immune feature (LMCIF) score to quantify the characteristics of LM immunotolerance across cancer types for assisting clinical disease management.

At present, the average five-year survival rate of liver cancer in China is only 12.1%. The reason for this association lies in the diagnosis at its middle or/and advanced stage of liver cancer for lacking special clinical symptoms in almost 70% of patients without the chance of effective surgical resection.

Article Synopsis
  • The growing use of ultrasound and Seldinger techniques has led to increased acceptance of placing totally implantable venous access devices (TIVADs) in the upper arm, which reduces the risks associated with traditional placement methods.
  • Various medical specialties in China are involved in implementing these upper-arm TIVADs, yet there is a lack of consistent skill levels and guidelines across different units.
  • An expert consensus aims to standardize implantation techniques, improve success rates, minimize complications, and enhance patient safety by detailing procedures, indications, and maintenance of upper-arm TIVADs.

Understanding the role of Cripto-1 in cancer progression and therapeutic strategies.

Clin Transl Oncol

May 2023

Department of Clinical Pharmacology, Key Laboratory of Clinical Cancer Pharmacology and Toxicology Research of Zhejiang Province, Affiliated Hangzhou First People's Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China.

During the initial stages of gastrulation during embryonic differentiation and wound healing, Cripto-1 is a critical protein for human growth. The epithelial adhesion molecules' downregulation, the mesenchymal overexpression, and mobile proteins are important mechanisms by which Cripto-1 initiates epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT). As a result, the function of Cripto-1 for inducing EMT to increase cell migration is advantageous during embryogenesis; however, it is deleterious during the formation, growth, and malignant tumor metastasis.
