Background: Atrioventricular nodal ablation (AVNA) combined with biventricular pacing (BVP) improves outcomes in patients with persistent atrial fibrillation (AF), adequate rate control, and reduced left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF). His-bundle pacing (HBP) delivers physiological ventricular activation and is a promising alternative to BVP.
Objective: The purpose of this trial was to compare HBP with BVP following AVNA.

Composite hemangioendothelioma (CHE) is an extremely rare vascular neoplasm that is characterized by an admixture of benign, low-grade malignant, and malignant vascular components. It is usually located superficially in the dermis and subcutis of the extremities, and other sites involved include the head and neck region, oral mucosa, and viscera of the kidney and spleen. CHE has a low-grade malignant potential because it is locally aggressive.

The neoadjuvant chemotherapy plays an important role in locally advanced gastric cancer, but its efficacy, safety profiles and clinical outcomes among different regimens still remain controversial. In this study, totally 231 eligible patients with locally advanced gastric cancer were enrolled. These patients were divided into the observation group (SOX regimen, = 123) and control group (mFOLFOX6 regimen, = 108) according to different chemotherapy regimens.

This study aims to investigate the potential mechanism of curcumin in mediating interleukin-6(IL-6)/signal transducer and activator of transcription 3(STAT3) signaling pathway to repair intestinal mucosal injury induced by 5-fluorouracil(5-FU) chemotherapy for colon cancer. SD rats were intraperitoneally injected with 60 mg·kg~(-1)·d~(-1) 5-FU for 4 days to establish a model of intestinal mucosal injury. Then the rats were randomly divided into model group(equal volume of normal saline), curcumin low, medium and high dose groups(50, 100, 200 mg·kg~(-1)), and normal SD rats were used as control group(equal volume of normal saline).

Background: Previous studies indicated that inhibiting the cardiac autonomic nervous system (CANS) suppressed atrial fibrillation (AF). Clinical research revealed serum adiponectin (APN) exerted a beneficial influence on sympathetic and vagal tone in patients with type 2 diabetes. However, the effects of APN on CANS is unknown.

Background: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are involved in myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury. miRNA-421 (miR-421) plays a significant role in the initiation of apoptosis and myocardial infarction. However, the molecular regulation of miR-421 in myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury requires further elucidation.

Malignant mesothelioma (MM) is a rare, aggressive, and highly lethal cancer that is substantially induced by exposure to asbestos fibers. High-mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) is an intriguing proinflammatory molecule involved in MM. In this review, we describe the possible crucial roles of HMGB1 in carcinogenic mechanisms based on and experimental evidence and outline the clinical findings of epidemiological investigations regarding the possible roles of HMGB1 as a biomarker for MM.

The NRG1/ErbB4 signaling mechanism has been widely studied in the central nervous system for many years. However, the role of this pathway in modulating the intrinsic cardiac nervous system is largely unknown. The present study investigated whether the NRG1/ErbB4 signaling system affects the activity of major atrial ganglionated plexi (GP) in a paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AF) model by 6-h rapid atrial pacing (RAP).

Background: If transformation from persistent atrial fibrillation (AF) to paroxysmal AF after catheter ablation had impacts on the outcome of repeated ablation was unclear. This study aimed to explore whether the type of recurrent AF after ablation for persistent AF was associated with recurrence after repeated ablation.
Methods And Results: This was a retrospective cohort study.

High-mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) is a potential therapeutic target and novel biomarker in a variety of malignant tumors, including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). More recently, a number of microRNAs (miRNAs) are identified as a class of regulators for broad control of HMGB1-mediated biological actions in eukaryotic cells. In this review article we will describe representative miRNAs involved in regulating the HMGB1 signaling pathways in HCC cell lines and/or animal models.

What Is Known And Objective: Uninterrupted warfarin during cryoballoon ablation (CB-A) of atrial fibrillation (AF) has been widely accepted. However, to our knowledge, no previous studies exist investigating the optimal intensity of anticoagulation with warfarin for CB-A. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of uninterrupted low-intensity warfarin for CB-A of AF in the elderly.

ALPPS is associated with rapid hypertrophy of FLR but it has a high postoperative mortality and morbidity. Up to now, it is controversial to apply ALPPS in hepatocellular carcinoma, especially for patients with liver cirrhosis.

Background: Although the transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) was demonstrated to be an alternative treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma with favorable oncological effect, the benefit of postoperative adjuvant TACE was still controversial. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of postoperative TACE in hepatocellular carcinoma.
Results: The 1, 3, and 5-year overall and disease-free survival rates were comparable between Surgery+TACE and Surgery groups.

The objective of this study is to investigate the effects of full airway drainage by fiber bronchoscopy through artificial airway in the treatment of traumatic atelectasis with occult manifestations. From May 2006 to May 2011, 40 cases of occult traumatic atelectasis were enrolled into our prospective study. Group A (n = 18) received drainage by nasal bronchoscope; group B underwent airway drainage by fiber bronchoscopy through artificial airway (n = 22).

Erlotinib is effective in NSCLC patients with known drug-sensitizing EGFR mutations, but its clinical efficacy in patients with wild-type EGFR or acquired resistance to erlotinib remains modest. Evodiamine is a chemical extracted from the Evodia rutaecarpa (Juss.) Benth, we showed that evodiamine could induce anti-proliferation and apoptosis in four wild-type EGFR NSCLC cell lines, and combining evodiamine with erlotinib might successfully inhibit cell proliferation and survival in wild-type EGFR NSCLC cells, characterized as erlotinib-resistant.

Purpose: The modulation of the autonomic nervous system (ANS) has been shown to prevent myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury (MIRI). Carotid baroreceptor stimulation modulates the ANS by sympathetic withdrawal and vagal activation. The aim of this study was to assess whether low-level carotid baroreceptor stimulation (LL-CBS) attenuated MIRI and test its underlying molecular mechanisms.

Background: We have previously shown that right-sided low-level tragus nerve stimulation (LL-TS) is an effective approach for the treatment of atrial fibrillation (AF) induced by rapid atrial pacing (RAP) and acts by preventing the loss of atrial connexins (Cxs). Whether a left-sided approach would achieve the same effect remains unknown.
Objective: We hypothesized that left-sided LL-TS would inhibit AF by preserving atrial Cxs as effectively as right-sided LL-TS.
