The treatment of bone infections has always been difficult. The emergence of drug-resistant bacteria has led to a steady decline in the effectiveness of antibiotics. It is also especially important to fight bacterial infections while repairing bone defects and cleaning up dead bacteria to prevent biofilm formation.

Serum cystatin C levels are negatively correlated with post-stroke cognitive dysfunction.

Neural Regen Res

May 2020

Department of Epidemiology, Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine; Department of Medicine, Tulane University School of Medicine, New Orleans, LA, USA.

Stroke is the leading cause of death and long-term disability worldwide, and cognitive impairment and dementia are major complications of ischemic stroke. Cystatin C (CysC) has been found to be a neuroprotective factor in animal studies. However, the relationship between CysC levels and cognitive dysfunction in previous studies has revealed different results.

Although transient cortical blindness is a rare complication following cerebral angiography, identification of risk factors for the development of transient cortical blindness after cerebral angiography is an important clinical issue. Between January 2008 and April 2018, 5,126 patients at five high-volume medical centers who underwent cerebral angiography procedures were enrolled in this multicenter cohort study. Patient baseline characteristics and surgery-related factors were analyzed.

Department of Epidemiology, School of Public Health and Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Preventive and Translational Medicine for Geriatric Diseases, Medical College of Soochow University, 199 Renai Road, Industrial Park District, Suzhou, Jiangsu Province 215123, China. Electronic address:

Background: Antiphospholipid activity was reported to be increased in depressive patients, while the impact of antiphospholipid antibodies (aPLs) on post-stroke depression (PSD) is unclear. We aimed to investigate the associations of aPLs, including antiphosphatidylserine (aPS) and anticardiolipin (aCL) antibodies with depression after acute ischemic stroke.

Methods: aPS and aCL were measured in 497 ischemic stroke patients recruited from 7 of 26 participating hospitals of China Antihypertensive Trial in Acute Ischemic Stroke.

Multiple biomarkers covering several pathways improve predictive ability for cognitive impairment among ischemic stroke patients with elevated blood pressure.

Atherosclerosis

August 2019

Department of Epidemiology, School of Public Health and Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Preventive and Translational Medicine for Geriatric Diseases, Medical College of Soochow University, Suzhou, China. Electronic address:

Background And Aims: We aimed to evaluate the ability of multiple novel biomarkers representing several pathophysiological pathways to improve risk prediction of post-stroke cognitive impairment.

Methods: We conducted a prospective multicenter study in 638 ischemic stroke patients with elevated blood pressure based on a random subsample from China Antihypertensive Trial in Acute Ischemic Stroke and measured 12 circulating biomarkers in these participants. Cognitive impairment was assessed at 3 months after stroke with definitions of Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) score <27 or Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) score <25.

Department of Epidemiology, Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, New Orleans, LA, USA; Department of Medicine, Tulane University School of Medicine, New Orleans, LA, USA. Electronic address:

Background: Homocysteine (HCY) and high sensitivity C reactive protein (hs-CRP) were suggested to be involved in post-stroke depression (PSD), which is a frequent mood disorder after stroke. However, the combined effect of HCY and hs-CRP on PSD remains unclear.

Methods: A total of 598 acute ischemic stroke patients from 7 of 26 centers participating in the China Antihypertensive Trial in Acute Ischemic Stroke with HCY or hs-CRP measurements were included in this analysis.

Radiofrequency thermocoagulation (RFT) is widely used to treat trigeminal neuralgia (TN); however, the optimal temperature at which RFT is most efficacious remains under much debate. Thus, the aim of the present study was to determine the lowest temperature at which morbidity could be minimized and patient outcomes maximized.A multivariate analysis was used to study 1354 patients who underwent computed tomography (CT)-guided RFT for V2/V3 idiopathic trigeminal neuralgia (ITN) during from June 2006 to May 2015.

Stem Cell Clinical Application Centre, Siping Central Hospital, Siping, Jilin Province, China.

This case report presents an evaluation of the clinical effects of an allogeneic amniotic cell transplant for the treatment of type 1 diabetes mellitus. A 26-year-old man with type 1 diabetes was treated with stem cells isolated from his neonatal son's amniotic membrane, collected at birth (2 × 10(7) cells). The cells, which expressed high levels of cluster of differentiation (CD) 133 and CD34 as assessed by flow cytometry, were infused into the pancreatic dorsal artery through the left femoral artery.

Definition, classification and treatment of destructive fractures.

Chin J Traumatol

April 2016

Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Siping Central Hospital, Siping 136000, Jilin Province, China.

Destructive injury is defined as a very serious damage both to the bone and the soft tissues. But in clinical practice we found that in some fracture cases, the damage to soft tissues is not as severe as "destructive injury" indicates, whereas comminuted fractures still cannot show the severity of bone damage. Therefore we proposed a new term "destructive fractures" after combining the definition of destructive injury with typical clinic cases.
