Glomus tumors are benign tumors typically located in the subcutis or deep dermis of the subungual region of the fingers. Histologically, glomus tumors are divided into three subtypes, in descending order of frequency: solid glomus tumor, glomangioma and glomangiomyoma. We report a case of a symptomatic intracapsular juxtasynovial glomangiomyoma of the knee.

Despite recent advances in acute stroke care, the risk of recurrent stroke remains high. On behalf of the Belgian Stroke Council (BSC), a nurse-led self-management program was developed, using a personal coach and digital platform with the aim of improving cardiovascular risk factor control in patients after ischemic stroke. The program was implemented in four Belgian hospitals.

Objectives: To investigate whether switching ciprofloxacin to fosfomycin in the case of fluoroquinolone-resistant rectal bacteria influences the incidence of infectious complications after transrectal prostate biopsy.
Methods: From December 2015 until December 2017, patients undergoing prostate biopsy were randomly assigned to a control group or an intervention group in a prospective, open-label fashion at three different centers. The presence of fluoroquinolone-resistant organisms was detected by rectal swabs.

Background & Aims: A combination of infliximab and immunomodulators is the most efficacious treatment for Crohn's disease (CD). Patients have the best outcomes when their serum concentrations of these drugs are above a determined therapeutic threshold. We performed a prospective, randomized trial to determine whether therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) to maintain serum levels of infliximab above 3 μg/mL produced higher rates of clinical and endoscopic remission than adapting dose based only on symptoms.

Objective And Importance: Listeria monocytogenes is a rare foodborne pathogen, causing both outbreaks and sporadic infections. Severe, systemic infections are more prevalent in at-risk populations, such as pregnant women, but occur mostly in older people and immunocompromised individuals. In this case report, we describe the presentation, diagnosis, and treatment of Listeria monocytogenes sepsis in an older patient, and we briefly review the literature about listeriosis and the importance of safe food practices.

Purpose: To test the effectiveness of a central venous catheter (CVC) insertion strategy and a hand hygiene (HH) improvement strategy to prevent central venous catheter-related bloodstream infections (CRBSI) in European intensive care units (ICUs), measuring both process and outcome indicators.
Methods: Adult ICUs from 14 hospitals in 11 European countries participated in this stepped-wedge cluster randomised controlled multicentre intervention study. After a 6 month baseline, three hospitals were randomised to one of three interventions every quarter: (1) CVC insertion strategy (CVCi); (2) HH promotion strategy (HHi); and (3) both interventions combined (COMBi).

Introduction Juvenile hemochromatosis is a rare but severe form of hereditary hemochromatosis that typically presents early in life and can be fatal if left untreated. Case presentation We present the case of a 30-year-old man with a clear symptomatology of juvenile hemochromatosis, but in whom the diagnosis was initially mistaken for alcoholic liver disease because of known excessive use of alcohol, with the consequence that an adequate treatment was postponed. Discussion In this report, we discuss the diagnosis and treatment of juvenile hemochromatosis, focusing on the interaction between hemochromatosis and alcohol induced liver disease and how to differentiate both.

We present a case of a 2-year-old boy with chronic suppurative osteomyelitis of the left jaw. A computed tomography (CT) scan demonstrated a periosteal reaction on the left side of the mandible with cortical destruction of the left mandibular head. The diagnosis could be confirmed histologically.

Autosomal-dominant tubulo-interstitial kidney disease (ADTKD) encompasses a group of disorders characterized by renal tubular and interstitial abnormalities, leading to slow progressive loss of kidney function requiring dialysis and kidney transplantation. Mutations in UMOD, MUC1, and REN are responsible for many, but not all, cases of ADTKD. We report on two families with ADTKD and congenital anemia accompanied by either intrauterine growth retardation or neutropenia.

Background: Endovascular treatment for acute ischemic stroke with a large intracranial occlusion was recently shown to be effective. Timely knowledge of the presence, site, and extent of arterial occlusions in the ischemic territory has the potential to influence patient selection for endovascular treatment. We aimed to find predictors of large vessel occlusive strokes, on the basis of available demographic, clinical, radiological, and laboratory data in the emergency setting.

Introduction: Identification of a suitable treatment for osteochondral repair presents a major challenge due to existing limitations and an urgent clinical need remains for an off-the-shelf, low cost, one-step approach. A biomimetic approach, where the biomaterial itself encourages cellular infiltration from the underlying bone marrow and provides physical and chemical cues to direct these cells to regenerate the damaged tissue, provides a potential solution. To meet this need, a multi-layer collagen-based osteochondral defect repair scaffold has been developed in our group.

Pott's puffy tumor (PPT), or osteomyelitis of the frontal bone, is a rare entity especially in adults. PPT is believed to occur as a complication of fronto-ethmoidal sinusitis or trauma to the frontal bone. We present the computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging findings in such a rare case of Pott's puffy tumor.

We report a 32-year-old woman with an exceptionally large capillary telangiectasia in the brainstem which is associated with a developmental venous anomaly (DVA). Her major problems were nystagmus in both eyes, binocular diplopia, gait abnormalities, cerebellar ataxia, slightly disturbed finger-nose test, an instable Romberg test and obvious dysartria. The diagnosis was made on the basis of specific imaging findings, and the use of gradient echo-weighted images proved to be helpful in making a differential diagnostic decision.

Introduction: We report the CT and MR findings in a 30-year-old man with extraskeletal Ewing sarcoma (EES) involving the left neural foramen at L5-S1 level.
Materials And Methods: The patient was evaluated with preoperative lumbosacral CT and MR imaging and postoperative lumbosacral MR imaging.
Results: The lesion was hyperdense on CT, isointense on T1- and T2-weighted MR images, and enhanced homogeneously after intravenous gadolinium injection.

We report the CT findings in a 77-year-old woman with left-sided aryepiglottic fold metastasis from breast cancer diagnosed 7 years previously. The lesion obliterated the left piriform sinus, had a lobulated contour and showed mild and heterogeneous enhancement on a post-contrast CT examination. Biopsy of the lesion revealed metastasis from poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma, compatible with metastasis of the breast carcinoma.

A 73-year-old woman with a history of chronic hypertension admitted to our clinic with complaint of acute paresis in her left arm. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging were performed to the patient which displayed intracerebral hemorrhage in the right parieto-occipital lobe. Further review of the computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging scan showed an enlarged left hypoglossal canal with a large vessel passing through it.
