Article Synopsis
  • The study uses gas-solid two-phase flow theory to simulate dust dispersion in fully mechanized mining, finding that increasing the working face inclination affects airflow and increases wind speed and dust concentration.
  • As the inclination rises from 25° to 50°, there is a notable increase in the movement and range of high-concentration dust clusters, with overall dust cluster distance expanding significantly.
  • The research proposes a tracking closed dust control technology that adjusts airflow angles and velocities to effectively manage and contain dust spread within the mining work environment.

Rapid Fabrication of Porous Photothermal Hydrogel Coating for Efficient Solar-Driven Water Purification.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

October 2022

School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Anhui University of Technology, Maanshan, Anhui 243002, China.

Cost management and scalable fabrication without sacrificing the purification performance are two critical issues that should be addressed before the practical commercial application of solar-driven evaporators. To address this challenge, we report a porous photothermal hydrogel coating prepared by mixing the raw materials of sawdust (SD), carbon nanotubes (CNTs), and poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA), which was applied to undergo a blading-drying-rehydration process to prepare the evaporator. In the coating, the crystallized PVA gives the coating a solid skeleton and the sawdust endows the coating with a loose structure to sufficiently enhance the water transportation capacity.

Experimental Study on the Mechanical Properties and Microstructure of Metakaolin-Based Geopolymer Modified Clay.

Molecules

July 2022

Key Laboratory of Intelligent Underground Detection Technology, Anhui Province Key Laboratory of Advanced Building Materials, College of Civil Engineering, Anhui Jianzhu University, Hefei 230601, China.

Clay is found in some countries all over the world. It usually has low compressive strength and cannot be used as a bearing material for subgrade soil. In this paper, the influence of basicity on a metakaolin-based polymer binder to improve clay was studied.

The solidification/stabilization of phosphogypsum using cemented paste backfill (OCPB) provides a low-cost and alternative in-situ technique for recycling phosphogypsum stockpiles. But the OCPB is far from obtaining steady states in which the pollutants would redistribute as a response to dynamic environmental conditions. Further, the associated chemical interactions and the mineralogy information of the solubility-controlling phases of contaminants (fluorine and phosphorus) have not been thoroughly studied or fully understood.

Experimental Study on Dust Suppression Effect and Performance of New Nano-Composite Dust Suppressant.

Int J Environ Res Public Health

May 2022

School of Resources and Safety Engineering, Central South University, Changsha 410083, China.

In this paper, a nano-composite dust suppressant has been proposed to make up for the deficiency in wettability and moisturizing performance of a nanofluid dust suppressant. The nanometer material , super absorbent polymer, carboxyl methyl starch sodium, and polyacrylamide were selected as effective components of it. The surface tension of the solution, evaporation resistance, and uniaxial compressive strength (UCS) were chosen as evaluation index to compare the suppression performance, these dust suppressants include the water, nanofluid dust suppressant and nano-composite dust suppressant, and the surface morphology of each tested material was observed by micro image analysis system.

The experiment of rock-like material plays an important role in the simulation of engineering fractured rock mass. To further understand the influence of raw materials on rock-like materials, this paper carried out the indoor mechanical properties test and the micro-pore structure detection combining NMR and SEM. The effects of micron-silica fume (SF) on microporous structure parameters and macroscopic mechanical properties under different conditions of water-cement ratio (WCR) and sand-cement ratio (SCR) were discussed.

Cemented paste backfill (CPB), a technology placing the solid waste into mined-out stopes in the mine through pipeline transportation, has been widespread all over the world. The resistance loss is an important parameter for pipeline transport, which is significantly affected by the slurry characteristics. However, the coupling effect of inlet velocity (IV), particle mass concentration (PMC), and particle size (PS) has not been well evaluated and diagnosed.

To explore the effects of water-cement ratio and sand-cement ratio on micro-pore structure characteristics and macroscopic mechanical properties and thus improve the understanding of rock-like materials, the mechanical test and detection of micro-pore structure combining NMR and SEM were carried out. The effects of WCR and SCR on different porosity parameters and mechanical properties were discussed. The correlation and internal relationship between mechanical properties and parameters of different porosities and fractal dimensions were analyzed.

The accumulation of original phosphogypsum (OPG) has occupied considerable land resources, which have induced significant environmental problems worldwide. The OPG-based cemented paste backfill (OCPB) has been introduced as a promising solution. In this study, a water-washing pre-treatment was used to purify OPG, aiming to optimize the transport performance and mechanical properties of backfills.

Numerical Analysis on the Thermal Performance in an Excavating Roadway with Auxiliary Ventilation System.

Int J Environ Res Public Health

January 2021

School of Resources and Safety Engineering, Central South University, Changsha 410083, Hunan, China.

A steady and proper thermal environment in deep underground is imperative to ensure worker health and production safety. Understanding the thermal performance in the roadway is the premise of temperature prediction; ventilation design; and improvement in cooling efficiency. A full coupled model incorporated with a moving mesh method was adopted; reflecting the dynamic condition of roadway construction.

The development of novel wastewater treatment processes that use heterogeneous catalysts to activate hydrogen peroxide (HO) with bicarbonate (HCO ) has been a subject of great interest in recent years; however, significant challenges remain, despite research into numerous metal-based catalysts. The work presented herein employed oxygen-doped graphitic carbon nitride (O/g-CN) as a non-metal catalyst for activating HO in the presence of HCO , and this method represented the first system capable of removing organic pollutants in the dark, to our knowledge. The catalysts were characterized using several microscopic imaging, spectroscopic, electrochemical, and crystallographic techniques, as well as N-physorption procedures.

Removal of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) by non-thermal plasma technology produced by dielectric barrier discharge has become a hotspot due to its rapid reaction at room temperature, convenience without preheating and high removal efficiency of VOCs. Ways to improve the removal efficiency of mixed VOCs and the control of by-products in the discharge process are urgently needed. In view of the above shortcomings, the research progress of catalysts to improve the removal efficiency of VOCs by dielectric barrier discharge in recent years was reviewed; in this research, we conducted experiments on the removal efficiency of toluene under high flow rate experimental conditions (input voltage 10-70 V, mixed gas flow rate 1 m h, inlet concentration 1000 mg m).

Graphitic carbon nitride (g-CN) is a promising photocatalyst for environmental protection but its development is greatly limited for its application in dark Fenton-like reactions due to its extremely low specific surface area and lack of suitable active sites. Herein, for the first time, graphitic carbon nitride with large surface area and abundant defect sites was developed by tailoring oxygen a simple and green method without any templates, namely, the calcination-hydrothermal-calcination successive treatment of melamine. The structure of the catalyst was characterized using several technologies, including XRD, SEM, TEM, N-physisorption, FT-IR, Raman spectroscopy and XPS.
