Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess the reliability and validity of the Turkish translation of the 5-item Dry Eye Questionnaire (T-DEQ-5) and compare it with other eye tests and a similar questionnaire called OSDI.
  • The research involved a series of linguistic validation steps, and results showed that the T-DEQ-5 had excellent test-retest reliability (0.95) and strong internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha of 0.90).
  • The T-DEQ-5 effectively distinguished dry eye patients, showing high sensitivity (81%) and specificity (91%) when compared to the OSDI and other diagnostic tests.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study explores potential causes of gender dysphoria (GD), specifically investigating the impact of endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) like bisphenol A (BPA), thiamethoxam, and fipronil on hormone-naïve transmen compared to cis-women.
  • - Researchers found that drug-naïve transmen had higher levels of androgens (like testosterone) than cis-women, while thiamethoxam levels were higher in cis-women; BPA and fipronil levels were similar across both groups.
  • - The findings suggest that while EDCs may play a role in GD, they are not the sole factor, and the high testosterone levels in trans

University of Health Sciences, Hamidiye Faculty of Nursing Department of Pediatric Nursing, Tıbbiye Cad. No:38 Haydarpaşa, Üsküdar, Istanbul, Turkey. Electronic address:

Background: This study was conducted to compare the accuracy of two noninvasive thermometers (axillary and infrared non-contact forehead thermometer) in measuring core temperature compared to the gold standard oral thermometer in the detection of fever in pediatric cancer patients with febrile neutropenia.

Methods: The study was conducted with a single group of 42 children with febrile neutropenia between 23 December 2020 and 25 January 2023 in the pediatric hematology and oncology clinic of a training and research hospital, which provides a specialized environment for both medical education and advanced scientific research in the field of pediatric hematology and oncology. The participants' body temperature was measured with an oral, axillary, and non-contact infrared forehead thermometer immediately after admission to the clinic and at 5 and 10 min after admission.

Moyamoya disease (MMD) is a rare non-inflammatory cerebral vasculopathy characterized by progressive stenosis of the internal carotid arteries, often bilaterally, and the formation of abnormal collateral vascular structures at the cranial base. A patient who underwent elective cesarean section (C/S) twice under spinal anesthesia and was diagnosed with MMD as a result of recurrent intracranial hemorrhage in the postpartum periods is presented. A 41-year-old female patient without any systemic comorbidity, gravida 2, parity 2, had her second cesarean section (C/S) operation under spinal anesthesia and was discharged on the third postoperative day without any problems.

Introduction: The relationship between depression and inflammation and the resulting vascular/neuronal damage have been demonstrated in recent studies. In this study we aimed to investigate inflammation and the possible degeneration that can be caused by depression and accompanying vitamin D deficiency using a non-invasive imaging method of optical coherence tomography (OCT).

Methods: Twenty-four healthy controls and 42 drug free major depressive patients matched for age, sex and eye measurements were compared in terms of vitamin D, C Reactive Protein (CRP) and OCT parameters.

Penetrating Keratoplasty in Congenital Glaucoma.

J Clin Med

September 2023

Flaum Eye Institute, School of Medicine and Dentistry, University of Rochester, New York, NY 14627, USA.

Background: Childhood glaucoma is one of the most common causes of corneal opacity in childhood and is associated with various pathological corneal changes, including corneal enlargement, corneal clouding, and edema. Congenital glaucoma (CG) may cause a decrease in vision outcomes due to corneal opacity or clouding, which is often associated with stimulus deprivation amblyopia. Therefore, to create a balance between preventing amblyopia and sustaining corneal clearance, patients with CG can be managed with early penetrating corneal transplantation surgery along with advanced glaucoma management.

We aimed to analyze retinal microvascular parameters, measured by optical coherence tomography angiography in patients with internal carotid artery stenosis compared to healthy individuals. A total of 41 eyes from 30 patients who had varying degrees of carotid stenosis, and 42 eyes from 42 healthy controls, were enrolled in this study. Depending on the degree of stenosis evaluated by Doppler ultrasonographic imaging, the patient group was further subclassified into mild, moderate, and severe carotid artery stenosis.

Purpose: We aimed to compare retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness and peripapillary vessel density values between COVID-19 patients with or without olfactory/gustatory dysfunction symptoms and healthy controls.

Materials And Methods: We evaluated RNFL and radial peripapillary capillary vessel density (RPC-VD) values of 41 patients who had COVID-19 history and age- and gender-matched control group including 31 healthy individuals with optical coherence tomography angiography. First, post-COVID-19 group's and control group's RNFL and RPC-VD values were compared, then post-COVID-19 patients were divided into subgroups according to the presence (subgroup-A) and absence (subgroup-B) of olfactory/gustatory dysfunction symptoms, and same parameters were analyzed for subgroups.
