Evaluation of changes of anterior segment parameters in patients with pseudoexfoliation syndrome after cataract surgery using anterior segment optical coherence tomography.

The aim of the study was to compare the anterior segment parameters after cataract surgery in pseudoexfoliation syndrome (PEX) and control eyes. We conducted a prospective comparative study of 36 eyes (PEX group), 16 eyes (PEXG group) and 46 eyes (control group) of 98 patients after phacoemulsification with intraocular lens implantation. Before surgery, 1 week, 1 month and 3 months postoperatively, anterior chamber parameters were evaluated by swept source anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT).

Towards 'automated gonioscopy': a deep learning algorithm for 360° angle assessment by swept-source optical coherence tomography.

Aims: To validate a deep learning (DL) algorithm (DLA) for 360° angle assessment on swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT) (CASIA SS-1000, Tomey Corporation, Nagoya, Japan).

Methods: This was a reliability analysis from a cross-sectional study. An independent test set of 39 936 SS-OCT scans from 312 phakic subjects (128 SS-OCT meridional scans per eye) was analysed.

Collagen accumulation in sub-conjunctival tissue at the surgical wound is one of the major complications associated with glaucoma filtration surgery (GFS). This process often leads to unwanted fibrotic scar formation at the lesion site and dysfunction of tissues. Previously, we demonstrated that NADPH oxidase 4 (Nox4) is implicated in transforming growth factor-beta (TGFβ)-induced collagen production in ocular fibroblasts and scarring responses in a mouse model of corneal injury.

Predictive Value of Bleb Vascularity after Mitomycin C Augmented Trabeculectomy.

Background: To evaluate the relationship between bleb vascularity and surgical outcome one year after mitomycin C (MMC) augmented trabeculectomy.

Methods: This was a prospective study of 51 eyes of 44 patients after MMC-augmented primary trabeculectomy with follow-up of 12 months. The total vessel area of a bleb was measured with ImageJ software on color photographs of the bleb on day 1 and 14, then months 1, 3, 6 and 12 after trabeculectomy.

Exploring Associations Between Cardiac Structure and Retinal Vascular Geometry.

Background Retinal arteriolar narrowing and venular widening has been widely suggested to be associated with subclinical changes in cardiac structure. The novel retinal vascular geometric indices might reflect more comprehensive information on microvasculature other than vascular caliber alone. However, the association between suboptimal retinal vascular geometry and cardiac structural alteration has not been studied.

Evaluation of meridional scans for angle closure assessment with anterior segment swept-source optical coherence tomography.

Background/aims: As swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT) simultaneously obtains 128 meridional scans, it is important to identify which scans are playing the main role in classifying gonioscopic angle closure to simplify the analysis. We aimed to evaluate the diagnostic performance of every meridional scan in its ability to detect gonioscopic angle closure.

Methods: Observational study with 2027 phakic subjects consecutively recruited from a community polyclinic.

Optimization of coronary optical coherence tomography imaging using the attenuation-compensated technique: a validation study.

Aim: To optimize conventional coronary optical coherence tomography (OCT) images using the attenuation-compensated technique to improve identification of plaques and the external elastic lamina (EEL) contour.

Methods And Results: The attenuation-compensated technique was optimized via manipulating contrast exponent C, and compression exponent N, to achieve an optimal contrast and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). This was applied to 60 human coronary lesions (38 native and 22 stented) ex vivo conventional coronary OCT images acquired from heart autopsies of 10 patients and matching histology was available as reference.

Characterization of Fatty Acid Binding Protein 7 (FABP7) in the Murine Retina.

Purpose: To characterize the mouse retina lacking fatty acid binding protein (FABP7-/-).

Methods: Immunohistochemistry (IHC) was performed in 8-week-old mice to localize FABP7 in the retina. Retinal thickness was measured using image-guided spectral-domain optical coherence topography images.

Determinants of pupil diameters and pupil dynamics in an adult Chinese population.

Background: To investigate the determinants of pupil diameter (PD), amplitude of pupil diameter change (PD-change) and speed of pupil constriction (SPC) using video anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) in a population-based sample of Chinese adults.

Methods: Chinese adults aged 40 to 80 years who were free from glaucoma were consecutively recruited from the population-based Singapore Chinese Eye Study. The SPC was measured by AS-OCT videography.
