Fungal-derived natural products continue to play a pivotal role in the discovery of drug agents for human, veterinary, and general agricultural use. The fungus presents a significant saprobic ascomycete whose metabolites remained hitherto unstudied. Herein we report the isolation of eight unprecedented secondary metabolites named neodidymelliosides A and B ( and ), neodidymelliol A (), and neodidymellioic acids A-E (-) produced by the submerged cultures of the fungus.

Polymeric poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA)-lipid hybrid nanoparticles (PNPs)-based therapy are powerful carriers for various therapeutic agents. This study was conducted to evaluate the chemotherapeutic potential of free 5-flurouracil (5FU) and synthetized 5FU-PNPs and impact on p53-dependent apoptosis in mammary carcinomas (MCs) grown in mice. Breast cancer cells were injected in Swiss albino female mice and 2 bilateral masses of MC were confirmed after one week.

Aim: Men are more susceptible to liver fibrosis (LF) than women. However, the underlying molecular mechanism, especially the role of estrogen/estrogen receptor (ER) activation in this sexual dimorphism is unclear. Therefore, the aim of the current study was to investigate the impact and the underlying molecular mechanisms of estrogen/ER activation on diethyl nitrosamine (DEN)-induced LF.

Novel reliable biomarkers of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) are clinically imperative due to potential limitations of endoscopic techniques. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have emerged as non-invasive biomarkers of IBD; however, the full disease-specific miRNAs signature for IBD subtypes remains elusive. We evaluated the diagnostic role of circulating miR-486 and miR-25 in IBD patients and their potential ability to discriminate IBD subtypes; ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD).

Background: The increased use of cephalosporin antibiotics in the last few years as well as the detection of their residues in wastewater treatment plants and hospital wastewater poses a risk for infiltration of their residues into environmental water samples.
Objective: A simplified, sensitive, and convenient solid-phase extraction (SPE) procedure coupled with either HPLC or fast HPLC methods with diode array detection was developed and validated to screen the residues of six different cephalosporin antibiotics: cefoperazone, cefipime, ceftazedime, ceftriaxone, cefdinir, and cefotaxime, along with amoxicillin, levofloxacin, and ciprofloxacin in water samples.
Methods: An HPLC-diode array detector (HPLC-DAD) method and a fast HPLC method, based on a core-shell stationary phase, were developed for the fast screening of the antibiotic compounds.

Treatment of colon diseases presents one of the most significant obstacles to drug delivery due to the inability to deliver sufficient drug concentration selectively to the colon. The goal of the proposed study was to develop, optimize, and assess an effective colon target delivery system of theophylline-based nanovesicles (TP-NVs) surrounded by a biodegradable polymeric shell of chitosan (CS) and Eudragit L100 (E) for the treatment of ulcerative colitis (UC). TP-loaded nanovesicles were fabricated using the ethanol injection method and coated with CS and E, respectively.

Necroptosis, a programmed form of necrotic cell death carried out by receptor-interacting serine/threonine protein kinase 1 (RIPK1) and RIPK3, has been found to be implicated in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease (AD). An FDA-approved anti-cancer drug, pazopanib, is reported to possess potent inhibitory effect against necroptosis via interfering with RIPK1. So far, there are no existing data on the influence of pazopanib on necroptotic pathway in AD.

This study aimed to formulate a pharmaceutical dosage form containing omeprazole (OMP) and curcumin (CURC) to treat experimental peptic ulcers. OMP and CURC were preliminarily complexed with hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin for enhancing their solubilization. After that, the combined complex (CURC/OMP) was loaded to alginate beads to sustain their release and then coated with chitosan.

Atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease of the arterial walls that develops at predisposed sites. As a major risk factor for adverse cardiovascular pathology, atherosclerosis can progress to myocardial infarction and stroke, due to the rupture of unstable atherosclerotic lesions. Macrophage uptake of modified lipoproteins and metabolic dysfunction contributes significantly to the initiation and development of atherosclerotic lesions.

This research aims to develop a drug delivery system that effectively treats colitis while administering curcumin/mesalamine by coating alginate/chitosan beads with Eudragit® S-100 to target the colon. Beads were tested to determine their physicochemical characteristics. Coating with Eudragit® S-100 prevents drug release at a pH of less than 7; this was demonstrated by in-vitro release conducted in a medium with gradually varying pH to mimic circumstances in various regions of the gastrointestinal tract.

Doxorubicin (DOX) is one of the basic anticancer drugs, nonetheless its use is restricted due to noxious side effects. Kidney failure is one of the main side effects that restrict its medical use. The current study assessed the nephroprotective effects of fenofibrate and pioglitazone against the renal injury induced by doxorubicin in rats and illustrated the probable mechanisms underlying these protective effects.
