The clinical use of dexamethasone (DXM) is associated with the development of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). However, the mechanisms by which DXM-induced NAFLD is still incompletely known. Therefore, the current study aims to test the hypothesis that DXM-induced NAFLD is mediated by dysregulation of key genes involved in lipid metabolism and liraglutide (LG) can ameliorate these effects.

Chitosan (CS) has excellent film-forming properties; unfortunately, its use as a film wound dressing is limited because of its weak mechanical properties, especially in its wet state. For this reason, modifications with different materials are investigated in this study. The aim of this work was the combination of chitosan with poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA), magnesium oxide nanoparticles (MgO), and glycerol as a plasticizer agent which can strengthen CS films, increase their flexibility, and enhance their resistance to microbes.

Prolonged exposure to glucocorticoids (GC) disrupts neuronal architecture, hinders neuroplasticity, and triggers neuroinflammation. However, the precise underlying mechanisms have not been studied yet. The current study aimed to investigate the mechanisms of GC-induced neuroinflammatory effects by stimulating the miRNA let7b, aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR)/ARNT, HMGB1/RAGE, and other downstream targets.

This study presents a new method for simultaneously quantifying a complex anti-migraine formulation containing five components (ergotamine, propyphenazone, caffeine, camylofin, and mecloxamine) using UV spectrophotometry and chemometric models. The formulation presents analytical challenges due to the wide variation in component concentrations (ERG: PRO: CAF: CAM: MEC ratio of 0.075:20:8:5:4) and highly overlapping UV spectra.

The development of analytical methods that adhere to the principles of sustainable green chemistry is essential in the modern scientific arena. This research presents two novel methods for the concurrent quantification of olopatadine (OLO) and mometasone (MOM), targeting sustainable green chemistry principles in their raw materials, dosage forms and combined nasal spray formulations. The first method is a rapid isocratic high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) that achieves excellent resolution within 4 min, with retention times of 2.

Introduction: This study aimed to prepare cholesterol and stearic acid-based solid lipid nanoparticles of gabapentin (GAB-SLNs) for protection against streptozotocin (STZ)-induced retinal injury in rats.
Methods: We prepared four preparations of GAB-SLNs using a hot high-shear homogenization ultrasonication process, and the best formulation was selected and tested for biological activity. The retinal injury was brought in male adult albino rats while gabapentin doses continued for 6 weeks.

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is an idiopathic, chronic, relapsing inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), characterized by chronic inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract. The pathophysiology of UC is complicated and involves several factors including immune, genetic, and environmental factors. Recently, a huge amount of research has concentrated on the role of interleukins including interleukin-6 (IL-6) in its pathophysiology.

Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a devastating consequence of sepsis, accompanied by high mortality rates. It was suggested that inflammatory pathways are closely linked to the pathogenesis of lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced AKI. Inflammatory signaling, including PCSK9, HMGB1/RAGE/TLR4/MYD88/NF-κB, NLRP3/caspase-1 and Fractalkine/CX3CR1 are considered major forerunners in this link.

In our study, the secretome of the clinical isolate Enterococcus faecalis HY7 displayed antibacterial activity against the vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecalis V853. These bacteriocin-like substances showed thermal stability at a wide range of temperatures up to 121 °C, while proteinase K treatment resulted in a total loss of their activity. PCR-based screening for bacteriocin biosynthetic genes revealed that Enterococcus faecalis HY7 harbored multiple enterocin-producing genes, including ent A, avc A, and as-48.

Background: Methotrexate (MTX) is an antineoplastic/immunosuppressive drug, whose clinical use is impeded owing to its serious adverse effects; one of which is acute kidney injury (AKI). Most of MTX complications emerged from the provoked pro-oxidant-, pro-inflammatory- and pro-apoptotic effects. Quillaja saponaria bark saponin (QBS) is a bioactive triterpene that has been traditionally used as an antitussive, anti-inflammatory supplement, and to boost the immune system due to its potent antioxidant- and anti-inflammatory activities.
