Background: Carbapenem-Resistant Enterobacterales (CRE) has been categorized as pathogens of critical priority by World Health organization (WHO) as they pose significant threat to global public health. Carbapenemase production considered as the principal resistance mechanism against carbapenems and with the recent surge and expansion of carbapenemases and its variants among clinically significant bacteria in India, the present study reports expansion bla and bla of in CRE of clinical origin.

Methods: Bacterial isolates were collected from a tertiary referral hospital and identified through VITEK® 2 Compact automated System (Biomerieux, France).

Objectives: The presentation and outcomes of acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF) during COVID times (June 2020 to Dec 2020) were compared with the historical control during the same period in 2019.

Methods: Data of 4806 consecutive patients of acute HF admitted in 22 centres in the country were collected during this period. The admission patterns, aetiology, outcomes, prescription of guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT) and interventions were analysed in this retrospective study.

Low hemoglobin is widely used as an indicator of iron deficiency anemia in India and other low-and-middle income counties, but anemia need not accurately reflect iron deficiency. We examined the relationship between hemoglobin and biomarkers of iron status in antenatal and postnatal period. Secondary analysis of uncomplicated singleton pregnancies in two Indian study cohorts: 1132 antenatal women in third trimester and 837 postnatal women 12-72 h after childbirth.

Background: Undernutrition in children seems to be one of the major health issues in developing nations including India. Stunting, underweight, and wasting are the three most often used anthropometric indicators to evaluate childhood undernutrition. Children who exhibit one or more indicators of undernutrition are considered as anthropometric failure (AF).

Objectives Over many years, many intracanal irrigants have removed smear layers during routine root canal therapy. The efficacies of conventional endodontic chemical irrigants are documented, but limited research is available on herbal irrigants' role in the endodontic therapy irrigation protocol. This study aimed to evaluate endodontic irrigants' smear layer removal efficacy, namely, 3% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl), 17% ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA), green tea extract, and Triphala extract, using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis.

Staphylococcus aureus is a global pathogen and is responsible for causing severe life-threatening infections. The current study was designed to investigate transcriptional expression of different core, regulatory, and accessory genes within vanB operon under differential exposure of vancomycin and teicoplanin. Four isolates selected for the study, were confirmed to harbour vanB gene in which three isolates showed MIC breakpoint above 16 µg/ml and one isolate above 8 µg/ml against vancomycin while teicoplanin showed higher MIC breakpoint as compared to vancomycin.

If You're Not Confused, You're Not Paying Attention: Is Not Brucella.

J Clin Microbiol

August 2023

Instituto de Investigación Sanitaria de Navarra (IdisNa), Pamplona, Spain.

Article Synopsis
  • Bacteria from the genus Brucella cause brucellosis, a serious disease affecting both animals and humans, and have been controversially merged with other unrelated bacterial species based on genomic findings.
  • Researchers argue this merger is inappropriate due to lack of thorough phylogenetic analysis and exclusion of expert opinions in brucellosis.
  • They warn that combining these groups could lead to confusion and risks in public health, particularly impacting those dealing with brucellosis in under-resourced regions, and call for keeping the Brucella genus distinct.

Purpose: This research aims to identify the miRNAs that could target the genes overexpressed in prostate cancer so that miRNA-based therapeutics could be developed.

Methods: A 7mer-m8 model of microRNA targeting was utilized in order to analyse the relationship between microRNAs and overexpressed genes. The efficiency of miRNA binding was investigated using various parameters namely free energy (AMFE), GC and GC3 content, translation efficiency, cosine similarity metric, mRNA stability, free energy of RNA duplex, and base compositional difference.
