Department of Pharmaceutics, School of pharmaceutical science, Siksha 'O' Anusandhan University, Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India.

Article Synopsis
  • Nanotechnology helps treat brain diseases by using very small materials to make medicines work better and with fewer side effects.
  • Some of these tiny materials can get past a tricky barrier in the brain that makes it hard for drugs to reach their target.
  • Herbal-based nanoparticles are shown to be safer and more effective than regular ones, making them a promising option for treating neurodegenerative diseases.

Background: Differentiating between ameloblastoma (AB) and ameloblastic carcinoma (AC) is difficult, especially when AB has atypical cytological characteristics or an uncommon clinical history. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to elucidate the differential expression of immunohistochemical markers between AB and AC.

Methods: We conducted a thorough search of PUBMED and SCOPUS according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines to identify cross-sectional studies that compared the expression of immunohistochemical markers in AB and AC.

Background: The interaction between the recipient area and the graft is one of the key factors in the success of periodontal plastic surgery. This randomized controlled, split-mouth, double-blinded clinical trial aimed to compare the clinical and aesthetic outcomes of epithelialized palatal graft (EPG) and gingival unit graft (GUG) in achieving root coverage in localized (Recession Type 1) RT1 recession defects.

Methods: Twenty participants with forty bilateral recession defects randomly received EPG or GUG surgical treatment modalities for each of the recession defects.

Article Synopsis
  • A class of soliton and complex breather solutions for KdV and mKdV equations is found, associated with a Pöschl-Teller type symmetric potential.
  • These solutions only exhibit the unbroken phase, showing isospectrality to an infinite potential well with real spectra.
  • To explore the broken phase, a modified potential that adheres to specific potential algebra and enables non-trivial zero-width resonances is necessary.

Background: Iron-induced oxidative stress was thought to be the reason why the a-wave amplitude of the electroretinogram (ERG) dropped when iron ions were present. It is assumed that reactive oxygen species (ROS) are generated in the presence of iron ions, and this leads to a decrease in hyperpolarization of the photoreceptor. It is known that in age-related macular degeneration (AMD), sodium iodate can induce oxidative stress, apoptosis, and retinal damage, which mimic the effects of clinical AMD.

The work elucidates the importance of accurate Parkinson's disease classification within medical diagnostics and introduces a novel framework for achieving this goal. Specifically, the study focuses on enhancing disease identification accuracy utilizing boosting methods. A standout contribution of this work lies in the utilization of a light gradient boosting machine (LGBM) coupled with hyperparameter tuning through grid search optimization (GSO) on the Parkinson's disease dataset derived from speech recording signals.

The microbe-mediated conversion of nitrate (NO) to ammonium (NH) in the nitrogen cycle has strong implications for soil health and crop productivity. The role of prokaryotes, eukaryotes and their phylogeny, physiology, and genetic regulations are essential for understanding the ecological significance of this empirical process. Several prokaryotes (bacteria and archaea), and a few eukaryotes (fungi and algae) are reported as NO reducers under certain conditions.

Background: Cancer is positioned as a major disease, particularly for middle-aged people, which remains a global concern that can develop in the form of abnormal growth of body cells at any place in the human body. Cervical cancer, often known as cervix cancer, is cancer present in the female cervix. In the area where the endocervix (upper two-thirds of the cervix) and ectocervix (lower third of the cervix) meet, the majority of cervical cancers begin.

October 2024

Senior Professor, Department of Neonatology, Pt. B. D. Sharma PGIMS Rohtak, Rohtak, Haryana, India.

There are no standard guidelines regarding time for initiation of feeds in moderate to severely asphyxiated neonates and data regarding the same in neonates are scanty. Case sheets of all neonates born ≥34 weeks of gestation who satisfied the definition were analysed. The early feeding group was defined as those in whomh feeds were started <24 h and the late feeding group as those started ≥24 h of life.
