Objectives: Current studies on the treatment of adolescent patients with disc displacement without reduction (DDWOR) are limited by short follow-up periods and small sample sizes, and there are few comparative studies on the efficacy of conservative treatment with and without disc reduction for acute DDWOR. This study compared the therapeutic effects of two conservative treatment methods: physical therapy alone and physical therapy combined with non-surgical manual disc reduction and anterior repositioning splints (ARS), in adolescent patients with acute DDWOR.

The biological mechanism of action of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in the treatment of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) osteoarthritis remains unclear. This study explored the mechanisms underlying interleukin (IL)-1β-induced inflammation and investigated the effect of PRP on TMJ condylar chondrocytes. Primary chondrocytes were isolated from the TMJ condyle of 4-week-old rats, and differentially expressed genes among three treatment groups (phosphate-buffered saline [control], IL-1β, and IL-1β + PRP) were identified using RNA-seq and characterized using Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes path-enrichment analyses.

The study aimed to compare the efficacy of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections for the treatment of temporomandibular joint osteoarthritis (TMJ-OA) with hyaluronic acid (HA) therapy. This randomized controlled trial included 70 patients with TMJ-OA, randomly divided into either a PRP or HA group. The pain intensity, maximum mouth opening (MMO), TMJ sound score, and proportion of crepitus were recorded and compared at baseline and at 1, 3, and 6 months.

Background: There is a lack of consensus regarding the best treatment option, including physical exercise, available for temporomandibular degenerative joint disease (DJD) that affect the older patients. Background: Degenerative joint disease (DJD) of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is an important type of temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) potentially leading to orofacial pain and jaw dysfunction. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is important in TMD diagnosis; however, its diagnostic ability for DJD remains unknown.
