Nodal fine needle aspiration (FNA) is usually the first procedure in the work-up of malignancy of unknown primary. Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) is an aggressive cutaneous cancer more common in Caucasians but rare among Asians. It is a diagnostic challenge in evaluating FNA from a metastatic MCC without the knowledge of a current or prior history of skin cancer.

Safety considerations of systemic Janus kinase inhibitors in atopic dermatitis applications.

Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitors are emerging treatments for atopic dermatitis (AD). Due to this novel role as a therapeutic option for patients with AD, we aimed to review current evidence on the pathophysiology and the safety and adverse effects (AEs) of oral JAK inhibitors for the treatment of AD utilizing the key terms atopic dermatitis, JAK inhibitors, and adverse effect or event. Our study indicated that oral JAK inhibitors have a moderate safety profile for use in AD in several reviews and phase II or III clinical trials.

Background: The use of dihydropyridine calcium channel blockers (DCCBs) was proposed to reduce the risk of Parkinson's disease (PD). This study aimed to evaluate the association between DCCB and its dose effect and the risk of PD in patients with newly diagnosed hypertension.

Methods: This population-based retrospective cohort study enrolled 107,207 patients with newly diagnosed hypertension, between 2001 and 2013, from Taiwan's National Health Insurance Research Database.

We report a case of a 1-year, 7-month-old boy with incidental finding of gallbladder stone, who received ceftriaxone treatment after diagnosing with enterocolitis.

Trajectory of smoking behaviour during the first 6 months after diagnosis of lung cancer: A study from Taiwan.

Aims: To identify different classes of change pattern/ trajectory of tobacco smoking behaviour after diagnosis of lung cancer using multi-wave data and to explore factors associated with the class membership.

Design: This is a multi-wave observational study.

Methods: Smoking behaviour data were collected at diagnosis and then every month for 6 months from 133 newly diagnosed people with lung cancer who had recently quit smoking or continued to smoke at diagnosis.

Ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunts are commonly used in neurosurgical procedures to treat hydrocephalus. Although shunt-associated abdominal complications are well documented, extrahepatic pseudocysts are a rare shunt complication in adult patients. The purpose of the current study is to evaluate the incidence of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) in dyslipidemia-related diseases with or without the use of fibrate. Patients were defined as dyslipidemia-related diseases according to the diagnostic code and lab exam arrangement, then the population was divided into those with fibrate application and those without via 1:2 ratios of propensity-score matching. The primary outcome is the development of AMD after dyslipidemia-related diseases by the Cox proportional hazard regression.

Lymphocyte-rich effusions of the body cavities may represent a reactive/benign condition, primary effusion lymphoma, or systemic lymphoma with secondary malignant effusion, either as initial presentation or as a late complication. Cytomorphologic examination is essential and fundamental for diagnosis and may provide important clues to the nature of diseases. However, based on morphology alone, cytologic diagnosis of lymphocyte-rich effusions could be very challenging, particularly when the lymphocytes are small.

Optimizing the Sensor Placement for Foot Plantar Center of Pressure without Prior Knowledge Using Deep Reinforcement Learning.

We study the foot plantar sensor placement by a deep reinforcement learning algorithm without using any prior knowledge of the foot anatomical area. To apply a reinforcement learning algorithm, we propose a sensor placement environment and reward system that aims to optimize fitting the center of pressure (COP) trajectory during the self-selected speed running task. In this environment, the agent considers placing eight sensors within a 7 × 20 grid coordinate system, and then the final pattern becomes the result of sensor placement.

Thyroid fine-needle aspiration cytology in Taiwan: a nationwide survey and literature update.

In Taiwan, thyroid fine-needle aspiration cytology is easily accessible and reliable for evaluating thyroid nodules.
