With the emergence of SARS-CoV-2, various non-pharmaceutical interventions were adopted to control virus transmission, including school closures. Subsequently, the introduction of vaccines mitigated not only disease severity but also the spread of SARS-CoV-2. This study leveraged an adapted SIR model and non-linear mixed-effects modeling to quantify the impact of remote learning, school holidays, the emergence of Variants of Concern (VOCs), and the role of vaccinations in controlling SARS-CoV-2 spread across 16 German federal states with an age-stratified approach.

In this article, significant contributions of non-adiabaticity for the rovibrational bound states up to 25 000 cm-1 and total angular momentum J = 0-20 of H3+ are investigated. A coupled-perturbed full configuration interaction (CP-FCI) treatment is applied to calculate all couplings between electronic states caused by the nuclear motion. These derivative couplings were evaluated up to the second order by means of a perturbation treatment and include all nuclear Cartesian first and second derivatives of the electronic wavefunctions.

Neurotransmitters are chemical compounds released by neurons acting as messengers that transmit signals to other neurons, called postsynaptic neurons, or other types of cells. These neurotransmitters play a crucial role in the nervous system, and abnormalities in their levels have been associated with physical, psychotic, and neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, dementia, addiction, depression, and schizophrenia. This makes it necessary to develop sensitive and reliable techniques for their detection and monitoring in order to screen diseases.

This paper describes indigo chemistry and its brief scientific history beginning with the first characterization and chemical synthesis of indigo via various precursors such as isatin, cinnamic acid, 2-nitrobenzaldehyde, anthranilic acid, N-phenylglycine, aniline, and indole. Furthermore, alternative methods such as eco-friendly microbial synthesis of indigo using a variety of enzymes are reported: Cytochrome P450 monooxygenases, flavin-containing monooxygenases, and unspecific peroxygenases. Subsequently, the application of indigo in the denim industry, reduction methods (chemical, electrochemical, enzymatic and catalytic) and dyeing methods (all parameters in dyeing, ring dye) are discussed.

Evaluations after the first and second waves of the COVID-19 pandemic in Germany showed an increase in mental health problems and a reduction in health-related quality of life (HRQoL). The aim of the study was to assess those aspects after the third wave of COVID-19 in adolescents who decided to receive a vaccination. In students aged 12-17 years recruited from schools in one German region, mental health (by the strengths and difficulties questionnaire, SDQ) and HRQoL (by KIDSCREEN-10) were assessed by both a self- and parental report.

Ordinal pattern dependence is a multivariate dependence measure based on the co-movement of two time series. In strong connection to ordinal time series analysis, the ordinal information is taken into account to derive robust results on the dependence between the two processes. This article deals with ordinal pattern dependence for a long-range dependent time series including mixed cases of short- and long-range dependence.

On reacting laser-ablated manganese or iron difluorides with O or O during codeposition in solid neon or argon, infrared absorptions of several new metal oxo-fluoride molecules, including OMF, (η-O)MF, (η-O)MF, (η-O)MF (M = Mn and Fe), and OMnF, have been observed. Quantum chemical density functional and multiconfiguration wavefunction calculations have been applied to characterize these new products by their geometric and electronic structures, vibrations, charges, and bonding. The assignment of the main vibrational absorptions as dominant symmetric or antisymmetric M-F or M-O stretching modes is confirmed by oxygen isotopic shifts and quantum chemical calculations of frequencies and thermal stabilities.

Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) requires extensive computing resources making its implementation in edge devices with conventional microprocessor hardware a slow and difficult, if not impossible task. In this paper, we propose to accelerate these intensive neural computations using memristive neural networks in analog domain. The implementation of Analog Memristive Deep Convolutional GAN (AM-DCGAN) using Generator as deconvolutional and Discriminator as convolutional memristive neural network is presented.

The influence of QED effects (including one- and two-electron Lamb-shift, Araki-Sucher term, one-loop self-energy, and finite nuclear size correction) together with non-adiabatic effects on the rovibrational bound states of H has been investigated. Non-adiabaticity is modeled by using geometry-dependent effective nuclear masses together with only one single potential energy surface. In conclusion, for rovibrational states below 20 000 cm, QED and relativistic effects do nearly compensate, and a potential energy surface based on Born-Oppenheimer energies and diagonal adiabatic corrections has nearly the same quality as the one including relativity with QED; the deviations between the two approaches for individual rovibrational states are mostly below 0.

This article discusses recent developments in and new principles of European social health insurance (SHI). It analyses how privatization policies and competition have altered social insurance and whether financial difficulties are caused by social insurance features not evident in other types of health care systems. There is little if any evidence that SHI causes higher cost increases than other types of systems.

In this work, the hybridization and dehybridization of ssDNA with 20 bases at gold coated sensor surfaces modified with complementary 20 bases capture probe ssDNA was investigated at 18 °C by quartz crystal microbalance measurements with dissipation monitoring (QCM-D). A sequence of 20 base pairs with a melting temperature of about 64 °C was chosen, since in many biosensor studies the target molecules are DNA or RNA oligomers of similar length. It turned out that at the applied experimental conditions the DNA hybridization was irreversible, and therefore the hybridization and dehybridization process could not be described by the Langmuir model of adsorption.

The kinetic energy operator for triatomic molecules with coordinate or distance-dependent nuclear masses has been derived. By combination of the chain rule method and the analysis of infinitesimal variations of molecular coordinates, a simple and general technique for the construction of the kinetic energy operator has been proposed. The asymptotic properties of the Hamiltonian have been investigated with respect to the ratio of the electron and proton mass.

The multi-ligand binding flavoprotein dodecin is reconstituted on top of flavin-terminated oligonucleotide monolayers. A detailed quartz crystal microbalance with a dissipation monitoring (QCM-D) study showing how the length and flexibility of the oligonucleotide tethers influence the stability and the viscoelastic properties of the resulting DNA-protein layers is presented. Relatively dense protein layers can be obtained, if the length of the tethers is in the same range as the diameter of dodecin.

The orientation of surface-grafted dsDNA assemblies relative to the surface depends strongly on the nature of the employed thiol anchor. This was shown by ssDNA capture probe strands of 20 bases grafted to a gold surface by three dithiane rings or a single mercaptohexyl group. The capture probe strands were hybridized to one end of complementary ssDNA strands (target) comprising 40, 60, or 80 bases (T , T , and T ).

For the detection of oligonucleotides a sandwich-like detection strategy has been developed by which the background fluorescence is significantly lowered in comparison with surface-bound molecular beacons. Surface bound optical molecular beacons are DNA hairpin structures comprising a stem and a loop. The end of the stem is modified with a fluorophore and a thiol anchor for chemisorption on gold surfaces.

Electrochemical or faradaic impedance spectroscopy (EIS) using the ferri/ferrocyanide couple as a redox probe at gold working electrodes was evaluated with respect to its ability to monitor consecutive surface modification steps. As a model reaction, the reversible hybridization and dehybridization of DNA was studied. Thiol-modified single stranded DNA (ssDNA, 20 bases, capture probe) was chemisorbed to a gold electrode and treated with a solution of short thiols to release nonspecifically adsorbed DNA before hybridization with complementary ssDNA (20 bases, target) was carried out.

Three different surface bound molecular beacons (MBs) were investigated using surface plasmon fluorescence spectroscopy (SPFS) as an optical readout technique. While MB1 and MB2, both consisting of 36 bases, differed only in the length of the linker for surface attachment, the significantly longer MB3, consisting of 56 bases, comprised an entirely different sequence. For sensor chip preparation, the MBs were chemisorbed on gold via thiol anchors together with different thiol spacers.
