Introduction: The liquid biopsy is a breakthrough in the field of medical diagnostics. It serves as a sentinel that can quietly detect even the subtlest aberrations that indicate the presence of disease. They make it possible to uncover relevant genetic factors of tumors with minimal to no risk to cancer patients.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) involves numerous variables, but only a few significantly impact the classification task. The statistically equivalent signature (SES) method, inspired by constraint-based learning of Bayesian networks, is employed to identify essential features in CKD. Unlike conventional feature selection methods, which typically focus on a single set of features with the highest predictive potential, the SES method can identify multiple predictive feature subsets with similar performance.

The excessive discharge and accumulation of solid organic waste into the environment is of severe concern across the globe. Thus, an efficient waste management system is important to mitigate health risks to humans, minimize harmful impacts on the environment, and ensure a sustainable ecosystem. The organic waste is converted into value-added products either using microorganisms or heat energy; these methods are commonly known as biochemical and thermochemical techniques.

Lower Back Pain (LBP) is a global health issue, with increasing prevalence, partly attributed to vehicular vibrations experienced by motorcyclists. The L4 lumbar vertebra is responsible for greater mobility and flexibility of the body, but also is the most crucial body element affected by vehicular vibrations. Anthropometric properties, types of speed humps, and vehicle types are the critical variables that impact bone health during riding, need to be studied.

Immobilized chitosan as an efficient adsorbent for columnar adsorption of Cr (VI) from aqueous solution.

Int J Biol Macromol

December 2024

Center for Research and Innovation, Adichunchanagiri School of Natural Sciences, Adichunchanagiri University, B G Nagara 571448, India.

The current effort focuses on creating an effective adsorbent for Cr (VI) adsorption due to the growing need to address Cr (VI) pollution in aqueous solutions. Chitosan, a biopolymer and polysaccharide with several functional sites, is immobilized on alginate using the ion exchange technique. Both prior to and following Cr (VI) adsorption, the material's shape, crystallinity, and functional groups are reported.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how to create hydroxyapatite from pomegranate peels using a precipitation method and characterizes it with techniques like XRD and FT-IR.
  • The derived hydroxyapatite (HA-PP) acts as an efficient adsorbent for removing chromium ions (Cr (VI)) from a solution, with optimal conditions found through response surface methodology (RSM), achieving a removal rate of 89.4%.
  • The findings indicate that the adsorption follows the Langmuir isotherm and pseudo-second-order kinetics, and the process is spontaneous and endothermic, reflecting changes in free energy and entropy.

In this study, the absorption and fluorescence characteristics of sulfa drugs, specifically Sulfadiazine (SDZ), Sulfamerazine (SMZ), and Sulfamethazine (STZ), were examined across a pH range of 1-14. The absorption and fluorescence spectra of these sulfa drugs showed significant changes depending on the pH value. Analysis of their pH-dependent absorption and fluorescence properties indicated that these sulfa drugs could used to design molecular logic gates.

An XAI-enhanced efficientNetB0 framework for precision brain tumor detection in MRI imaging.

J Neurosci Methods

October 2024

Vel Tech Rangarajan Dr.Sagunthala R & D Instiute of Science and Technology, Chennai, India. Electronic address:

Background: Accurately diagnosing brain tumors from MRI scans is crucial for effective treatment planning. While traditional methods heavily rely on radiologist expertise, the integration of AI, particularly Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), has shown promise in improving accuracy. However, the lack of transparency in AI decision-making processes presents a challenge for clinical adoption.

Existing security issues like keys, pins, and passwords employed presently in almost all the fields that have certain limitations like passwords and pins can be easily forgotten; keys can be lost. To overcome such security issues, new biometric features have shown outstanding improvements in authentication systems as a result of significant developments in biological digital signal processing. Currently, the multimodal authentications have gained huge attention in biometric systems which can be either behavioural or physiological.

A low-temperature polymer-assisted wet chemical method was used to synthesise Cu-doped ZnO bicone nanoflowers at three different polyethylene glycol (PEG) concentrations. The effects of PEG concentration on the structural, morphological and optical properties of Cu doped ZnO nanostructures were studied. X-ray diffraction studies revealed that the as-synthesized Cu doped ZnO nanostructures are highly crystalline with a hexagonal wurtzite phase.

Cold stress (hypothermia) during storage and cytokine stress due to acute allograft rejection adversely affect the donor corneal endothelium in the short term. Pharmacological pre-treatment (before transplantation) of the donor corneal endothelium or cells (propagated for cell injection therapy) with microtubule stabilizers, cold stress protectants, and other molecules is an attractive strategy to tackle damage caused by hypothermia and cytokine stress. These molecules can be delivered intracellularly to the donor corneal endothelium or cells at controlled rates for desired periods and with one-time administration using nanoparticles.

Cholesteryl Ester Transfer Protein (CETP) is a plasma glycoprotein that intervenes the reverse cholesterol transport (RCT) by equimolar exchange of Cholesteryl esters (CE) and Triglycerides (TGs) between anti-atherogenic High-Density Lipoproteins (HDLs) and pro-atherogenic Low-Density Lipoproteins (LDLs) resulting in the increased concentration of CEs in LDL. This is a potential cause for the formation of atherosclerotic plaques in blood vessels leading to fatality. Therefore, blocking the function of CETP has emerged as a novel strategy for suppressing atherosclerotic plaques.
