TruckSim-based study of the rollover accident mechanisms of container semitrailers on freeway interchange loop ramps.

PLoS One

September 2024

Traffic Police Headquarters of Sichuan Public Security Department, Chengdu, China.

In this study, to investigate the factors affecting container semitrailer rollovers while driving on interchange loop ramps, a simulation model was established in TruckSim on the basis of data collected from an in-depth investigation of the vehicle, road, and driving behaviors in a real accident. The established model was validated by reproducing the accident in a simulation. The effects of vehicle speed, the height of the cargo's center of gravity, tractor-semitrailer interactions, and the radius of the circular curve on container semitrailer rollover were investigated using the established model.

The present investigation examines the usage of rectangular multi-injectors for fuel injection in a supersonic combustion chamber. To evaluate the fuel jet penetration and distribution, a computational method is applied to model the supersonic compressible flow with cross multi-fuel jets released from annular rectangular nozzles with different nozzle configurations. The main effort of this work is to evaluate the jet interactions in the existence of cross-supersonic flow.

Objective: Studying the optimal profile shape and size of deceleration facilities suitable for low-speed environment roads under different speed control intervals.

Methods: Simulation modeling of deceleration facilities with various profile shapes and sizes and for vehicles in different speed intervals was performed using the vehicle dynamics simulation software Carsim. The height jumped by a vehicle's wheels, the vertical force on the wheels, and the vertical acceleration of the vehicle were used as indicators of ride comfort and operational stability for the various deceleration facility profiles.

Experimental study on the damage performance and forced response of concrete lining in fault-crossing tunnel.

Sci Rep

January 2024

Key Laboratory of Transportation Tunnel Engineering, Ministry of Education, School of Civil Engineering, Southwest Jiaotong University, Chengdu, 610031, Sichuan, China.

Understanding the adverse effects of tunnel crossing active faults on tunnel structures is crucial for ensuring their safe operation and construction. This paper presents the results of a series of model tests conducted at a scale of 1:40 using a fault sliding test box. Three sets of fault comparison tests were carried out, namely: (1) the tunnel does not cross the fault, (2) the spring stiffness is reduced, and (3) the model is not reinforced.

ANN deformation prediction model for deep foundation pit with considering the influence of rainfall.

Sci Rep

December 2023

Department of Geotechnical Engineering, School of Civil Engineering, Southwest Jiaotong University, Chengdu, 610031, China.

Deep foundation pits involving complex soil-water-structure interactions are often at a high risk of failure under heavy rainfall. Predicted deformation is an important index for early risk warning. In the study, an ANN model is proposed based on the Wave Transform (WT), Copula method, Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and Long Short-Term Memory Neural Network (LSTM).

Experimental study on the influence of longitudinal slope on airflow-dust migration behavior after tunnel blasting.

Sci Rep

November 2023

Key Laboratory of Transportation Tunnel Engineering, Ministry of Education, School of Civil Engineering, Southwest Jiaotong University, Chengdu, 610031, Sichuan, China.

In this paper, a 1:21 model experiment was conducted to discuss the dust diffusion efficiency and liner trolley obstruction effect inside the tunnel at - 9% to 9%, the effect of different initial dust concentrations on dust diffusion and liner trolley obstruction effect at 6% slope, and the effect of different return air velocity on dust diffusion at 6% slope, the reliability of the results is verified by computational fluid dynamics simulations. The results show that as the slope of the tunnel changes from 0 to - 9%, the average dust diffusion time decreases by 3.7% at the working face and the dust concentration difference between the front and rear of the trolley is improved by 2.

A new statistical approach for China road freight transport at a subnational level.

PLoS One

October 2023

Hubei Key Laboratory of Power System Design and Test for Electrical Vehicle, Hubei University of Arts and Science, Xiangyang, China.

Currently, there is a large deviation between official road freight data and real road freight performance at a subnational level in China. In order to deal with this deviation, the new concept of local freight tonnage and ton-kilometers is presented in this paper based on the territoriality principle, where either the origin or the destination of goods transported is local. Also, the statistic procedures and estimation models of the local freight tonnage and ton-kilometers are proposed based on five accessible basic datasets.

The occupational identity of local publicly funded students is associated with the stability of rural teachers. To discuss the influence mechanisms of family environment, psychological capital, and professional commitment on occupational identity, this study examined 395 local publicly funded students with the occupational identity scale, psychological capital scale, professional commitment scale compiled, and family environment scale in China. We found no significant difference in terms of sex, source of birth, only children or not, and from teachers' families or not.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to analyze how road factors impact the safety speed threshold for lorries making right turns at a downhill T-junction, using Trucksim simulation software to model the effects.
  • - A three-axle truck was simulated under various conditions, including road adhesion coefficients, super-elevations, turning radii, and vehicle weight, to assess turning instability.
  • - Key findings indicated that the turning radius significantly affects cornering speed thresholds, while road adhesion and vehicle weight have secondary impacts, and road height generally influences stability.

In order to explore the specific path of the influence of job autonomy on the satisfaction of knowledge employees, the current study deduced and established a Chain Mediation Model, which was based on the Resource-Gain-Development Model and the Conservation of Resources Theory. Primary data were gathered through questionnaire surveys at several cities in China by using a professional platform named "Wenjuanxing." The target populations were employees with a bachelor's degree or above, who were engaged in higher knowledge content and have mastered certain professional knowledge and skills, including technical R & D personnel, management personnel, professionals (such as accountants, lawyers, and medics) and other personnel generally recognized by the academic community.

Railway Overhead Contact System Point Cloud Classification.

Sensors (Basel)

July 2021

Faculty of Geoscience and Environmental Engineering, Southwest Jiaotong University, Chengdu 611756, China.

As the railway overhead contact system (OCS) is the key component along the high-speed railway, it is crucial to detect the quality of the OCS. Compared with conventional manual OCS detection, the vehicle-mounted Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) technology has advantages such as high efficiency and precision, which can solve the problems of OCS detection difficulty, low efficiency, and high risk. Aiming at the contact cables, return current cables, and catenary cables in the railway vehicle-mounted LiDAR OCS point cloud, this paper used a scale adaptive feature classification algorithm and the DBSCAN (density-based spatial clustering of applications with noise) algorithm considering OCS characteristics to classify the OCS point cloud.

Introduction: Quasi-induced exposure (QIE) technique has been popularly applied in the field of traffic safety research for decades. One of the basic assumptions of QIE theory is that the not-at-fault driving parties (D2s) involved in the crashes are the random selection of overall driving population at the event of crash occurrence. Very few literatures, however, can be identified to validate the assumption for crashes with specific injury severities that may not be satisfied in reality.
