A clinical challenge in managing vocal cord leukoplakia is to assess the potential malignant transformation of the lesion. This study aims to investigate the potential of deep learning (DL) for the simultaneous segmentation and classification of vocal cord leukoplakia using narrow band imaging (NBI) and white light imaging (WLI).

Angiogenesis in Aortic Aneurysm and Dissection: A Literature Review.

Aortic aneurysm and aortic dissection (AA/AD) are critical aortic diseases with a hidden onset and sudden rupture, usually resulting in an inevitable death. Several pro- and anti-angiogenic factors that induce new capillary formation in the existing blood vessels regulate angiogenesis. In addition, aortic disease mainly manifests as the proliferation and migration of endothelial cells of the adventitia vasa vasorum.

Effects of robot-assisted upper limb training combined with functional electrical stimulation in stroke patients: study protocol for a randomized controlled trial.

Introduction: About 17-80% stroke survivors experience the deficit of upper limb function, which strongly influences their independence and quality of life. Robot-assisted training and functional electrical stimulation are commonly used interventions in the rehabilitation of hemiplegia upper extremities, while the effect of their combination remains unclear. The aim of this trial is to explore the effect of robot-assisted upper limb training combined with functional electrical stimulation, in terms of neuromuscular rehabilitation, compared with robot-assisted upper limb training alone.

Safety and Effectiveness of Robotic-Arm Assisted Total Knee Arthroplasty.

Objective: We investigated the advantages of robotic arm-assisted total knee arthroplasty (raTKA) over conventional manual TKA (cmTKA) by comprehensively comparing patients who received raTKA and cmTKA in terms of postoperative pain, function, imaging assessment, and trauma to the body. This study investigated the efficacy and safety of raTKA in patients using the YUANHUA-TKA system.

Methods: In a prospective, randomized single-blind trial, 60 patients undergoing primary unilateral TKA from October 2020 to December 2020 were randomly assigned to either raTKA or cmTKA.

Needle-tip electrocautery versus steel scalpel incision in neurosurgery: study protocol for a prospective single-centre randomised controlled double-blind trial.

Introduction: Electrocautery is used widely in surgical procedures, but making skin incision has routinely been performed with scalpel rather than electrocautery, for fear that electrocautery may cause poor incision healing, excessive scarring and increased wound complication rates. More and more studies on general surgery support the use of electrocautery for skin incision, but research comparing the two modalities for scalp incision in neurosurgery remains inadequate. This trial aims to evaluate the safety and efficacy of needle-tip monopolar for scalp incision in supratentorial neurosurgery compared with steel scalpel.

Randomised controlled trial to evaluate the effect of contrast material dilution on renal function in patients after endovascular aortic repair: rationale and design for the CULTURE trial.

Introduction: Postoperative renal function decline is a major concern for thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) and endovascular abdominal aortic repair (EVAR). Diluting contrast medium in the power injector may be helpful in reducing the risk of contrast-induced nephropathy, but it can also blur fluoroscopic vision during surgery. The quality of the current evidence is very low; thus, this study is designed to investigate the effect of contrast dilution in the power injector on renal function changes in patients after endovascular aortic repair.

Chinese pregnant women's knowledge, attitude, and practice of self-protection against coronavirus disease 2019 during the post-pandemic period: A structural equation modeling-based survey.

This study aimed to investigate the Chinese pregnant women's levels of knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) of self-protection against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) during the post-pandemic period, to aid the development of targeted health education. An online questionnaire was conducted for 2156 Chinese pregnant women from October 1, 2021, to December 31, 2021, to collect socio-demographic and KAP information. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to determine self-protection-related factors.

Potential diabetic cardiomyopathy therapies targeting pyroptosis: A mini review.

Pyroptosis is primarily considered a pro-inflammatory class of caspase-1- and gasdermin D (GSDMD)-dependent programmed cell death. Inflammasome activation promotes the maturation and release of interleukin (IL)-1β and IL-18, cleavage of GSDMD, and development of pyroptosis. Recent studies have reported that NLRP3 inflammasome activation-mediated pyroptosis aggravates the formation and development of diabetes cardiomyopathy (DCM).

Effectiveness and safety of Danmu extract syrup for acute upper respiratory tract infection in children: A real-world, prospective cohort study.

Aim: To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of Danmu Extract Syrup for the treatment of acute upper respiratory tract infection (AURI) in children.

Methods: In this prospective cohort study, we enrolled children with AURI in the pediatric outpatient department and emergency department of West China Second Hospital. According to the treatment, they were divided into two groups: Danmu Extract Syrup Group (Danmu Group) and Xiaoer Chiqiao Granule Group (Chiqiao Group).

Subclinical cardiovascular disease and frailty risk: the atherosclerosis risk in communities study.

Background: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is associated with a greater frailty risk, but it remains unknown if pathways that contribute to CVD are associated with the frailty risk. Thus, we aimed to investigate whether elevations in high-sensitivity cardiac troponin T (hs-cTnT) and N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) for those without known CVD at baseline are associated with a higher frailty risk.

Obesity and leptin influence vitamin D metabolism and action in human marrow stromal cells.

Obesity is associated with low serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D [s25(OH)D], high serum leptin, and generally high bone mineral density (BMD). Human Marrow Stromal Cells (hMSCs) differentiate to osteoblasts and are both a target and source of vitamin D metabolites in bone marrow. There is no information about the influence of obesity on vitamin D metabolism and osteoblastogenesis in hMSCs and little about direct effects of leptin on hMSCs.

Rare ocular manifestations in an 11-year-old girl with incomplete Kawasaki disease: A case report.

Introduction: Kawasaki disease is a necrotizing vasculitis featuring fever, erythema, conjunctivitis, and lymphadenopathy. Ocular manifestations in Kawasaki disease are commonly limited to anterior segment, posterior segment lesions are rarely reported.

Case Presentation: We report a unique case of ocular manifestations in an 11-year-old girl with incomplete Kawasaki disease.

Hand-assisted laparoscopic surgery versus conventional open surgery in intraoperative and postoperative outcomes for colorectal cancer: An updated systematic review and meta-analysis.

Aim: This meta-analysis aims to compare hand-assisted laparoscopic surgery (HALS) and conventional open surgery (OS) for colorectal cancer (CRC) in terms of intraoperative and postoperative outcomes, and to explore the safety, feasibility of HALS for CRC surgery.

Methods: A systematic literature search with no limits was performed in PubMed, Embase, and Medline. The last search was performed on April 23, 2017.

Correlation of HLA-DP/DQ polymorphisms with transplant etiologies and prognosis in liver transplant recipients.

Previous study has identified that the genetic variants in the human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-DP/DQ region were strongly associated with hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. But their roles in liver function recovery after hepatic transplantation were still obscure. This study aimed to investigate whether HLA-DP/DQ polymorphisms were associated with post-transplant etiologies and prognosis in Chinese liver transplant recipients.
