A three-armed star-shaped poly(l-lactide) (PLLA) oligomer was synthesized using glycerol to ring-opening and polymerize l-lactide. The resultant oligomer introduced photoreactive groups at the terminal of PLLA chains by a coupling reaction with monoethyl fumarate (FAME). Photopolymerizable resin has been prepared by mixing PLLA 3-FAME, -vinyl-2-pyrrolidone (NVP) as a reactive diluent and Irgacure 2959 as a photoinitiator.

Pathology plays a very important role in cancer diagnosis. The rapid development of digital pathology (DP) based on whole slide image (WSI) has led to many improvements in computer-assisted diagnosis by artificial intelligence. The common digitization strategy is to scan the pathology slice with 20× or 40× objective, and the 40× objective requires excessive storage space and transmission time, which are significant negative factors in the popularization of DP.

What makes cells move: Requirements and obstacles for leader cells in collective invasion.

Exp Cell Res

September 2019

State Key Laboratory of Oral Diseases & National Clinical Research Center for Oral Diseases & Dept. of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, West China Hospital of Stomatology, Sichuan University, China. Electronic address:

Most recently, mounting evidence has shown that cancer cells can invade as a cohesive and multicellular group with coordinated movement, which is called collective invasion. In this cohesive cancer cell group, cancer cells at the front of collective invasion are defined as leader cell that are responsible for many aspects of collective invasion, including sensing the microenvironment, determining the invasion direction, modifying the path of invasion and transmitting information to other cells. To fulfill their dispensable roles, leader cells are required to embark on some specific phenotypes with unusual expression of some proteins and it's very important to investigate into these proteins as they may serve as potential therapeutic targets.

Herein, antibacterial coordination polymer hydrogels were conveniently fabricated in water coordination between silver nitrate and PEGylated bisimidazolylbenzyl alcohol (1a-c). These coordination polymer hydrogels exhibit much better antibacterial activity than silver nitrate against both Gram-negative and Gram-positive pathogens including multidrug-resistant pathogens. The coordination polymer Ag/1c with a long PEG chain (PEG1000) was demonstrated to be the most effective antibacterial material, and its minimum inhibition concentrations (MICs) could be as low as 15.

Evaluation of immunoglobulin (Ig) gene rearrangements with BIOMED-2 multiplex PCR has become a standard detection of clonality in mature B cell malignancies. Conventionally, this method is relatively labor-intensive and time-consuming, as it requires DNA isolation from bone marrow aspirates (BM) or peripheral blood (PB) in patients with BM or PB involvement. On the other hand, fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) is routinely used as genetic screening in B cell malignancies, but the surplus fixed nuclei initially prepared for FISH usually turn useless afterwards.
