Globally, breast cancer is the most frequent type of cancer, and its early diagnosis and screening can significantly improve the probability of survival and quality of life of those affected. Liquid biopsy-based targets such as circulating tumor cells, circulating tumor DNA, and exosomes have been instrumental in the early discovery of cancer, and have been found to be effective in stage therapy, recurrence monitoring, and drug selection. Biosensors based on these target related biomarkers convert the tested substances into quantifiable signals such as electrical and optical signals through signal transduction, which has the advantages of high sensitivity, simple operation, and low invasiveness.

Disuse bone loss is prone to occur in individuals who lack mechanical stimulation due to prolonged spaceflight or extended bed rest, rendering them susceptible to fractures and placing an enormous burden on social care; nevertheless, the underlying molecular mechanisms of bone loss caused by mechanical unloading have not been fully elucidated. Numerous studies have focused on the epigenetic regulation of disuse bone loss; yet limited research has been conducted on the impact of RNA modification bone formation in response to mechanical unloading conditions. In this study, we discovered that mA reader IGF2BP1 was downregulated in both osteoblasts treated with 2D clinostat and bone tissue in HLU mice.

The performance assessment of slopes during various disturbances is important to ensure the safe service of slopes. Due to the four characteristics of slope engineering, it is difficult for existing resilience evaluation models to accurately reflect slope performance. To address this problem, a resilience evaluation model applicable to slopes was developed in this study.

Given the suboptimal physical properties and distinctive geological conditions of deep coalbed methane reservoirs, any reservoir damage that occurs becomes irreversible. Consequently, the protection of these deep coalbed methane reservoirs is of paramount importance. This study employs experimental techniques such as scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and micro-CT imaging to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the pore structure, mineral composition, fluid characteristics, and wettability of coal seams 3# and 15# in the northern Qinshui Basin of China.

We report a highly regioselective 1,2-addition of P(O)-H compounds to the in situ generated β,γ-alkynyl-α-ketimine derived from 3-alkynyl-3-hydroxyisoindolinones, which provided a general protocol for the preparation of 3,3-disubstituted isoindolinones featuring both phosphoryl and alkynyl groups at a quaternary carbon center. The use of only 2-5 mol % of an inexpensive catalyst (In(ClO)·8HO or Bi(OTf)) allowed the smooth output of the desired products under mild conditions (25 °C, 0.5-24 h) with a broad substrate scope (35 examples) in up to >99% yield.

Osteoarthritis (OA) presents a significant therapeutic challenge, with few options for preserving joint cartilage and repairing associated tissue damage. Inflammation is a pivotal factor in OA-induced cartilage deterioration and synovial inflammation. Recently, exosomes derived from human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (HucMSCs) have gained recognition as a promising noncellular therapeutic modality, but their use is hindered by the challenge of harvesting a sufficient number of exosomes with effective therapeutic efficacy.

Sepsis is a life-threatening disease characterized by excessive systemic inflammation and coagulopathy. Platelets and neutrophils form a "dangerous alliance" through crosstalk, promoting the inflammatory cytokine storm and coagulation disorders during sepsis. Platelet-neutrophil crosstalk leads to the formation of platelet-neutrophil complexes (PNCs), which are the central "protagonists" of this "dangerous alliance.

Promoters are crucial elements for controlling gene expression in cells, yet lactic acid bacteria (LAB) often lack a diverse set of available constitutive promoters with quantitative characterization. To enrich the LAB promoter library, this study focused on the known strong constitutive promoter P in LAB. Through error-prone PCR and dNTP analog-induced random mutagenesis, a library of 247 mutants of P was generated by using the red fluorescent protein (RFP) fluorescence intensity as a high-throughput screening indicator in Streptococcus thermophilus.

Background: A recent study conducted by the laboratory of the first author revealed that major depression is composed of two distinct subtypes: major dysmood disorder (MDMD) and simple dysmood disorder (SDMD). The latter is a less severe phenotype with fewer aberrant biological pathways. MDMD, but not SDMD, patients were identified to have highly sensitized cytokine/growth factor networks using stimulated whole blood cultures.

Improper management of biogas residue (BR) can reduce sustainability in the food waste treatment industry. To address this issue, a comprehensive evaluation framework, based on emergy analysis, carbon emissions and economic analysis, is proposed in this study, to explore how different BR disposal practices affect the comprehensive performance of the industry. A food waste treatment plant in Henan Province, China (anaerobic digestion (AD) + BR landfilling: Scenario 1 [S1]), and two alternative scenarios (S2: AD + BR incineration; S3: AD + BR composting) are investigated as a case study.

Background: While guidelines suggest administering antibiotics 12 to 18 hours after the rupture of membranes in term premature rupture of membranes (PROM) women, in practice, clinicians tend to initiate prophylactic antibiotics as soon as possible to avoid risk of infection.
Objective: This study aimed to assess whether early administration of prophylactic antibiotics for term premature rupture of membranes reduces the incidence of maternal and neonatal infections.
Study Design: This multi-center, prospective cohort study included women with term premature rupture of membranes.

The necrosis of pancreatic acinar cells is a key molecular event in the progression of acute pancreatitis (AP), with disturbances in mitochondrial energy metabolism considered to be a direct causative factor of acinar cell necrosis. Histidine triad nucleotide-binding protein 2 (HINT2) has been implicated in the development of various diseases, whereas its involvement in the progression of AP remains unclear. This study aims to investigate the role of HINT2 in AP.

As a newly developed technology, lignocellulose pretreatment of PHP (phosphoric acid coupled with hydrogen peroxide) can facilitate the enzymatic hydrolysis of pretreated lignocellulose for glucose production. It also has been found that the derived oxidative tail gas from pretreatment can facilely degrade organic pollutant. To balance the pollutant degradation and the glucose yield, the collaborative optimization on pretreatment was investigated.
